I would actually like the light on all the time . If you or anyone else can show us how to wire it , it would be really appreciated . I think this is one of the best mods you can do for fish tails and I think a lot of other people like me who don't know anything about wiring or electronics would like to know how to do it as well .
Great to hear you got your game up and running , mirror blades look really good on this machine .

I’m interested in this as well. Was wondering if the kit linked above might make it a bit easier and less taxing on the powerboard. Once the lugs on the switch are identified you could wire up a connector to this kit possibly.

I'm no expert but I wouldn't have thought that the LED in the launch button would put too much strain on the board , especially if you have changed original bulbs to LEDs .

If you want the LED lit all the time the easiest way is to source 12V and Ground from the coin door interface board (below the left flipper button inside the cab) @ connector J2, the pins are marked on the board which one is 12V and which is Ground (Pin 4 grey/yellow is 12V and Pin 5 black is ground) On the button the 2 circled pins are for the LED, + for 12V and - for Ground. For attaching the button to the original button wiring the following is from a message i sent to another FT user some years back BUT the button i used (and the other bloke) only had 3 pins. Yours has 2 sets of the same so i'm not totally positive it will make any difference which set you use as long as they are aligned with each other??

The new switch has 3 terminals in a row (in the middle) and 1 terminal either side (these are the LED 12v and ground terminals). You will see letters beside each of the 3 terminals, these are >> NC (normally closed), NO (normally open) and C (closed or comm). Your original switch should have been wired the same as mine and the 2 wires went to a plug inside the machine. There should be a white wire and a green wire, the white wire goes to NC and the green wire goes to NO. I soldered the diode in the same way it was on the micro switch which is >>> One end to NC and the BANDED end to C (banded end has a grey band around it)

True. I have a few mods and this might make it easier to find/tap into 12V source though.

Nope, that single LED is fine on the system and mine is running LED star posts, extra lighting (floods) and a few mods.

#2906 4 years ago

Good to know, thanks! Was concerned, since I wasn't sure what the 12V ran and have resets on other games with too many mods.

Thanks so much for going to the time and effort to explain all of that , really appreciate it and I'm sure other people who are interested in it will appreciate it as well .

Having too many mods can definitely tax the system for sure!! I've found on some machines you always find out when you've reached critical mass With a machine completely changed over to LED's from standard globes you gain a slight buffer point from the original design parameters but it is worth mentioning that some mods draw more power (generally speaking mech mods with motors, etc)

Here, we like to employ a "catch and release" policy with our fish tales. Tagged and released into a local brewery catchpool the fish tales can play and frolic. With some luck and coaxing from experienced f.t. handlers, they may arrange into formation, and "display" prior to copulation, thus ensuring fish tales for generations to follow.
"Swim free yougun, be with your kin now..... Don't look back.....don't....look.......back"

Can someone post me a picture of how the playfield hinges are set up? I picked up a Fish Tales and the hinges aren't right so cant pull the playfield all the way out. Mine looks as follows.

That was a one off foam sculpt that a few people put work into. Where the coin door was, instead there was a lcd screen with tropical fish, and it projected water effect underneath it, very cool

#2919 4 years ago

That's quite the string of fish....wonder how different game to game they will play, different rubbers, switch settings etc....very cool, great idea!

#2920 4 years ago

Awesome photo! Rotordave made a video on FB too.

So many faded cabs. You guys all need to get together and have a sand/prep/decal party. Many hands and power tools make light work.

#2921 4 years ago

you are preaching to the choir my friend in that line up my fish tails is the only one that has been re decaled (black legs next to sculpt, commet 2smd warm brightness!) I thought it was quite an easy job myself

Looks fantastic. Makes me wanna do mine.

Wtf kinda shooter rod is on the one with the sculpt on it???

Huge difference in how they play, mine has a clearcoated playfield, blitz wax, super bands and 7degs, plays like lightning. One there plays like moon gravity, impossible to drain!

A kids toy glued to the end of a shooter rod I think????

Moon gravity, good one!

I got all my backbox flashers working last night (menu/tests/all lights and flashers - reseated probably half of which were not lighting - never noticed after years in my basement) - Fish Tales has a really cool backbox light show especially at the start of multiball (nice that the game gives you a few seconds to look up and enjoy the show). It’s a lost art, that - backbox lighting effects.

#2929 4 years ago

The lightning flashes are a grwat touch in that Backbox Show.

Lost a switch row during early testing after complete re-build.
Had to replace U20 on CPU today, So up and running again now.

A few more tweaks and additional goodies to be added, then good to go !

I added the dirty harry door decal to the casters club drop target. Looks like it was made to be there.

You feel lucky punk? Master Tropical fishing!

#2936 4 years ago
Quoted from 2pupPinz:

You feel lucky punk?

...because right now you have to be thinking - 'Did he just lock Ball #2? Or was that only the first Ball locked?'.

Do you feel lucky?

Well, do you?

Yes...yes I do feel lucky. There it goes!

Wow that is just awesome seeing so many Fishtales being played. Such a great game I'll never sell mine.

My FT is running L-4 and color DMD appears to be working fine.

Is there any advantage to upgrade to L-5 ?

I would advise to goto D6.0
That will fix the Extra Ball text and you have a Led-Ghosting fix.

#2944 4 years ago

I recently put in LED and GI OCD boards to fix the bad LED ghosting. I debated trying the D6 rom but with all the dimming effects I figured the boards were the better choice. I don't care about the extra ball display glitch. Ghosting is much more of an issue to me. Glad I made the plunge. Game looks incredible now and no more ghosting. All LEDs work exactly as the game was designed with all the dimming effects. Huge difference to say the least.

Game looks great !

Have you considered a dmd deflector for it ?

#2946 4 years ago

Can someone take a couple of pictures of CPU J connectors under the batter holder? I’m going through my FT and finding lots of hacks

#2947 4 years ago

Hopefully this helps...

Thanks, Yes I think deflector is a must for FT and will be ordering one.

I was too impatient to figure out controlled cast LED for Angeleye cast switch so I connected it and undercab LED strip to constant 12V together.
Thanks again Mancave post #2903 for easy 12V supply point.

Really enjoying playin FT again, Soooo much fun !!!
