Hey all, I am looking to join the Fish Tales Club and would like to find a nice example. I am looking for a Fishtales with new decals and new playfield already installed. If you have one for sale or if you are thinking about selling/trading please let me know. Thanks in advance.

#1402 6 years ago

I guess I'm in.

Welcome. You might want to get a dome (and shell decal) for that topper. It's loud without it.

#1404 6 years ago

Congratulations. That's actually a pretty solid lineup of three machines. Swap out the Cleopatra for a Sorcerer to go for a Mark Ritchie exclusive collection.

I have it. Still polishing it.

And no room.

Indiana jones and the temple of doom arcade goes next to it. Yes it works.

Yes I have both for the set

Also cleo is my first pin. No interest in getting rid of it. I have close to 50 hrs resurrrecting it from the dead.

#1406 6 years ago

I am about done building my topper but in need of the background behind the fish. Any suggestions? I also am unable to find 5 lamp board so I am going to just run 5 separate #555 bulbs in font. Any other advice or suggestions?
Thanks,
Tom

Quoted from Pinballgeek:

As mentioned in post #633 I decided to quickly mock up some decals for the backboard as a replacement for those who are making one from scratch and want something that is closely identical to the original. I'm at the stage of finding somewhere local that could print them off at a high enough quality at the dimension 62cm(L) x 20cm(H) this is because it allows some room to apply the decal which can be trimmed back.
They are a tad darker than the one mentioned in the other post because I tried to match the same colours and the factory version. I have included a dropbox link which contains the .psd , .png and .jpg file for the decal. If anyone has any alterations which they would like to share in the future by all means go for it https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nziaqcoowhuglbc/AAAQ06AsIZF_6ukAS-ABzjyMa?dl=0

Do the topper background images Pinballgeek posted earlier in this thread (#775, Page 16) work for you?

Thanks So Much! Pinballgeek did a GREAT job on this background. Any advice on where to go to get this printed? Any special print shops that do this type of printing on decals?
Thanks! Tom

They also sell fish tank backgrounds.

Quoted from Elicash:

I figured it out. The drop target 'down' mechanism was getting stuck and needed a small adjustment. In looking at the mechanism, it is a small solenoid that works as a magnet to pull a little metal arm in that is designed to trip the drop target causing it to drop. It is a thin little piece of metal and just a small bend was causing it to get stuck. So the solenoid was firing, but the arm wasn't catching the target.
I would imagine this could be a common issue on a lot of fish tales, because it would never register a credit dot (since the solenoid works). It would just make the game a lot harder as the only way to lower the drop target is to hit it with the ball.
I wonder if this contributes to why a lot of people think the game is so hard (myself included). If this small adjustment is affecting alot of games, you would never know unless you knew to examine that 'down' solenoid. I just bought the game from a 'non pinhead' who probably never knew there was an issue. No wonder it was pretty easy to beat his high score after I adjusted it!

In what location was it getting stuck? I'm having a similar problem, but it seems to be moving freely.

#1411 6 years ago
Quoted from KDPinball:

The drop target not going down during a reset is a common problem, where the coil that pulls in the lever, can't quite do it. You can imagine with an old pin, the connections are not as tight and the coil does not get the same power.

Methods to help the coil include stretching the spring a little or bending things so the gap is not as large for the magnetic coil to grab the lever.

So I had intended on doing a swap with a CPR silver playfield I have which has never been opened.

After reading everything about the level of effort required to pre drill to ensure proper install I have decided that I am just going to offer the playfield up for sale here.

$750 shipped in the continental United States.

First to PM me takes it.

#1413 6 years ago

what does a fish tales CPR gold playfield go for these days?
Adam.

#1414 6 years ago

Badamack I’m doing a restore right now and my cpr cost me around 900.00 but they are almost impossible to find now

I'd like to do a poll for idea or two for my FT refurb I am doing. AND I know it's all relative to what people like and don't like, so here it goes.

What would you do with any powder coat for legs, gun, lockbar, rails?
Going through searches, i've seen
Red legs, red gun, stainless lockbar and rails - looks cool
Blue legs, lockbar, rails
Black everything
Stock stainless on everything?

What would you prefer to keep it nice looking, not too out there, but different also?

My preference is stainless. Alternatively, black looks nice on this game.

#1417 6 years ago

I'd also vote for the stainless / chrome option. Not only is that my preference regardless of cost, you also save some money which can be put towards a color DMD.

#1418 6 years ago

Holy crap does this look cool though, keeping the red off the lockbar, rails doesn't overdo it

fish tail 1 (resized).jpgfish tail 1 (resized).jpg

#1419 6 years ago

Personally, I like the chrome better, but it's you're machine. Has anyone started doing custom coin doors? If not it seems like someone will eventually figure out how to continue the artwork on the door itself.

#1420 6 years ago
Quoted from northerndude:

And to me, that gun looks terrible.

Stick with something classy. Like black nickel.

#1421 6 years ago

Black nickle looks great, but if it were an either or, I'd rather have the color DMD.

PS: For the record, I have neither.

Oh, I've got that too.

#1423 6 years ago

Yeah, I'm sure every one of your pins is of superior quality. Someday. Thought, I wasn't sure where you'd be at on the Color DMDs. There is a minimalism there that just strikes a perfect balance between old and new. I really like LEDs. That would actually be my preference, even for new games.

Check out this thread for lots of FT powder coat options. Normally too much of one color is too much, so sometimes a chrome coin door is necessary to offset the color unless you are doing all black, etc.

I love the gloss orange legs on mine!

Looks great. One thing that sticks out - Your eye is not painted black in the center with a white dot like original, giving your fish a "dead eye" look.

Take some hobby paint and try painting that, or maybe stick on a black disk.

Thanks! It was a little bit of work and some adaptations but all in all was not too bad. Just make sure you use the correct measurements and get the fish and Dome from Planetary pinball. You will save about $25. Most of the light sockets are out of stock so you have to improvise. Like the light board on front is unavailable so I used #44 light sockets. The Background I got printed at a local print shop which turned out really good. I used the coil assemble from Marco. You could use any knocker one but this fit perfect. So most of parts from Planetary Pinball and some from Marco. Hope this helps. If you have any questions, just let me know.

What did you do for the harness? Did yo make one up and match the factory connectors?

#1436 6 years ago

A few more ideas. Been sniffing around back a handful of pages knowing there was some somewhere.

Black on black looks sharp. And also there is another of the gold/green custom job

I just matched them up. I knew where everything went so it was pretty easy just matching them up and then run the wires.

Just LED's in front and #44 in back for diamond. Decal is from a friend at a print shop and has high gloss on it. The background decal turned out really nice. I have the diamond insert out just a little bit to get 3 D effect.

Sorry! Yes, just LED's in translite. They are greens, whites, blue, and orange.

Nice touch with the fishing lure there! I have been bugging a friend to give me one of their vintage lures to add to mine.
