As a newbie I wouldn't be expecting to just show up and snag something.
I see shows as more useful to pre-buy a show game at a slight discount under NIB price from a vendor, or help identify particular titles that you then want to seek out to buy later.
Maybe the bigger shows like Pinfest are different, but in my experience shows like Southern Fried have not been good marketplaces to just show up and buy something.
