I've been contemplating getting a pinball off and on for awhile now and think I'm ready to take the plunge. Problem is I know nothing about them other then I like playing them when I see them. I don't want to spend more than $1000 and found 2 on CL that fit the bill. One was a Gold Wing for $850 and the other was a 1991 Data East Batman for $700. That one is 3 hours away but sounds like a good price. Both were good condition from home collections. Is there something like a "Kelly Blue Book" site for pinballs? Do they hold there value or break often? What should I look for when viewing or playing them?

There are several Blue books which are updated every year.

    Mr. Pinball buyers guide. http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=2436&parent=0
    And the pinballeric guide. http://pinballeric.com/guide.htm

The following web pages compile eBay sales.
    http://www.mindformation.com/cgi-bin/ebaypins.pl
    http://www.bostonpinball.biz/ebay1111.htm

The Pinside archive also compiles eBay sales.

Based on those prices, that Gold Wings better be in great shape. I am getting ready to trade a used playfield for a working one.

Mr pinball has a guide as well as pinballeric price guide.

you can look through IPDB and get a good idea what pins look like but your best bet is to go to a pinball show that can have over a 100 games to play & give you an idea what you like / dis like
