    #5 6 years ago

Only thing that would make this better two color dmd. This is awesome

    #6 6 years ago

It looks awesome, I think it being off center would drive me nuts.

    #7 6 years ago

    Holy sh%t......very cool......!

    #8 6 years ago

Production run has the screen 5mm more to the right.
Plans to offer first in either red or blue powder coat with matching red or blue screen filter.
The triangles are diffusers so you can mount lights under there.

Went through that process. In the middle is no good.. Odd, small sized areas to the left and right, this way you can have the natural look of an instruction card on the left, and the screen is where you would have the centre sticker and price card.
Because of the shooter lane, the centre of the apron is not the centre of the machine anyway, so not everything can be lined up.

Really amazing. Pretty sure take my money is in order. I want one or several.....
Just wow, offset or not, wow!

    #12 6 years ago

    #13 6 years ago

    I don't really get it...but...cool?

    Quoted from Rarehero:

Hehe. Fair enough. It's all done for better information to the player. I have often wondered if I would be able to keep up with things better if I could see the screen as stuff actually happened on it.
It's a big difference, to me anyway, when playing. Much easier to keep up with timers and counters while keeping your eyes close to the playfield. It's just like the heads up display in a car.

    #18 6 years ago

    That. Is. Awesome!!! well done

    #19 6 years ago

    Looks Lovely.

    #20 6 years ago

    Wow! I want 5.

    #21 6 years ago

This is a great idea man, looking forward to the final form!

    #22 6 years ago

WOW! Best thing I've seen this year! YES YES YES

    #23 6 years ago

    Sweet!!

    #24 6 years ago

Brilliant, brilliant work as always man! Such a perfect idea with people having spare DMDs after installing color DMDs.

Not so perfect.. it's a custom screen. Factory DMD is way too big to fit.

Some gameplay. Angle is a bit funny as the camera is not directly overhead.

    #28 6 years ago

And here's an old test video of a non-coated test apron in Metallica, with some lights under.

    #29 6 years ago

    It really does look sharp.

    #30 6 years ago

Ok, I have slept on it. May I please buy one for my Metallica?
    Please!

    #31 6 years ago

    that is awesome!!

    #32 6 years ago

Can this be made into a color DMD?

    #33 6 years ago

Question for OP .... how does the apron and DMD hold up when people grab the center of the apron to lift the playfield? It would seem that some sort of additional support would be needed but also something to protect the DMD!

    Nice looking product

    #34 6 years ago

    Very cool!

    Quoted from jkashani:

If there are RGB LED modules in the right size it might be possible.

Cool idea @timebandit. Very cool. Putting the display more in the player's line of sight.

    #37 6 years ago

    Genius.
    Can you patent that?
I don't give an F about LCD/LED screens but putting the dmd in the apron is great.
Only prob is if it distracts you or is too bright while you're playing...

There are three extra layers of filters. Pretty tough.

I doubt it. It's just location. Maybe I could patent my dots-look solution. I worked frikkin long and hard on that one.

    I wish.

I worked on that. It's fine. There is also a DIP switch for two levels of brightness.

Availability from now should be about 4-5 weeks. Target pricing is around US$310.
No preorders or lists. I will just hold stock.

My production run of screens has finally arrived, and they seem to be working, yay! Always a nervous wait for the first batch.

I am now final-testing production units and just tweaking some mounting hardware. Store will be stocked as of next week.

Here are some pics and video of production units. Check out the beautiful dot quality. Some long and painful development to get that right, I'll tell you, but they are spectacular in the flesh, if I do say so myself.

Re: RGB DMDs of the correct size, I'm pretty sure it's a question of when, not if.

    Looks great though.

Very limited stock now available. They take a bit of time to assemble so stock will keep replenishing as they run out, but it will only be at the rate of a couple per week I think.

I just got a red and a blue one to check these out. They are the coolest thing ever! It’s like a heads up display for pinball! I own 4 sterns. I plan to put them in all 4 and get some spares for games yet to come.
Here is red on Metallica and blue on family guy.
This is tied for best mod ever imo!
Other one is the pin gulp so I have a place to put my cocktail!
    Fantastic job TimeBandit!
    Thank you!

Looking good. Do you plan on putting any lighting under the triangle inserts?

    #50 5 years ago

I am deciding between lighting and buying extra apron decals. I will do something but that can wait until you make my black ones. They must go on all my sterns. I sold my Alvin g. No looking up and draining in my house anymore. System 11s, dmd sterns, pin 2k and slugfest remain. I would consider circus Voltaire, but no more others unless you start making bw or Sega aprons.
The product is game changing in a great way!
Those 2 and the red and blue you’re sending me will keep me patient, but I won’t do anything with triangles until I am done swapping colors.
Thanks again for making such a great product!
