Quoted from grandy:

Am i risking a lot more wear by playing it with only wax protecting the playflied?

"Most" EM people skip the clear and give a good clean and frequent wax---since it's infinitely easier to take apart an EM playfield for frequent clean and wax than a SS/DMD

any cleaners or methods common for solid state machines that i should avoid here

That is going to get you 30 different answers. I did a Fire Queen recently and was curious about what people use to clean...

As you can see...nothing resolved

cleaning an older playfleld like this

I would remove everything, wipe down with dry rag, remove all dust/crud. Then get out the Novus 1 and 2. You can gently use a Magic Eraser on stubborn ball swirls but you'll reach a point where you'll remove paint....so watch it.

I tried the alcohol if you read that other thread and I wasn't thrilled with it...I think Novus should get most dirt out. Then Carnuba it up a couple times and that's it...repeat as needed.

Search for the "Krud Cutter" thread for cleaning the outside of cabinet.

some switches that don't seem to register

You mean playfield features that aren't scoring etc?

Start a problem solving thread and I bet you can do it yourself if you have the basics...search EM Tech, there are tons of threads on it. OR, hire someone and watch what they do...that way it'll get up and going fast...depends on your time frame.

I'll certainly offer it up for the price of shipping once i remove it, though i can't imagine who would want that mod!

The person that bought that re-themed Alien EM for sale a while back...it'd be perfect.
