This is the great thing about paint... it can be fixed!
I'm suprised to hear about the adhesion issues. Did you converse with Jeff about his recommendations on that topic?
I would think sanding each color sounds excessive (and frustrating!)

make sure you clean any new gun before using! Clean it so any oils/protection are ran out of the gun before using.
