Can't wait to see the air brushing. I sent another shooter housing light up customer your way, I think for a red one for his Kiss LE. I hope you'll have time to fix him up.

can't wait myself. he's the kind of guy that takes his time, so i won't push him.

thanks for that paul, that won't be a problem.

Yes sir. funny thing i was gonna post tonight.

Back from my brother in law, gave him the cabinet and backbox last june, told him to take his time since i was very busy this past summer.

Summer is gone and fall is almost over, that means more free time for me.
So he explained to me what was his vision and what the final result should look like and man i can't wait.
Game should be back here within a month, including clear coat.

meanwhile, i will be working on the door, transfo, all the metal parts, etc..

so what i did tonight, i prepped the cabinet and backbox for airbrush.

Looks like a black mirror Bob. Airbrushing then more clear? Or is that a silly question.

so the sneak peek above was a quick mockup from my brother in law to give me an idea.
called him today to talk about it. then he said ''oh i'm already done with the black and white on the backbox, do you want me to send you some pictures?''
hell yeah!

omg! imagine with colours.

i'm supposed to have more pictures of the backbox with more colors (almost done) shortly.

One month later,

I asked what the progress was like on the backbox, seems like he didn't have time to do anything, i'm so disappointed.
so, i'll wait another month, i do have another option better than the original if nothing happens.

so i'm gonna try to have things done before it gets here (if) it's done in the next couple of weeks.

coin door before, gonna try to finish this this week.
take it apart, buff what i can and paint the rest of it.

pics.

not much left, paint paul, paint.

#127 6 years ago

That's a cool sand bucket thing you have there....must cut down on the hours it takes me to hand sand everything!

It's called a tumbler and yes they work great.

#129 6 years ago

Maybe I can get one at Harbor Freight?

#130 6 years ago

Yes they have them there, go to their web site.

#131 6 years ago

i got this one at marco's a few years ago.

#132 6 years ago

you could go with sanding wheel when there's a lot of rust.

#133 6 years ago

as of right now.

top part = painted
middle = buffed
lower part = cleaned

last picture, this is what's left.
door skin will be a pita to do, too bad i can't find a new one, but it's not that bad.
wire harness with new lamp socket.
3 switch mechanism and bracket support.

I take it you media blasted the bigger pieces.

#135 6 years ago
Quoted from MustangPaul:

I take it you media blasted the bigger pieces.

you mean sand blast, nope.
the big piece was cleaned, quick sanding (280-400) and then painted.
the other parts went in the thumbler and painted.
hardest part was the buffing, brass screw and little plate was a pita. the push button (coin return on the door), i found a faster way to clean something like that. stick one end in a drill, sand paper in the other hand, sand paper around the other end and drill away, 180-280-400-600 polish and your done in 5 minutes.

the other 3 big parts at the bottom were just cleaned and came out nice to my surprise.

door skin, well that another story, i wouldn't be surprised if it takes me all day tomorrow.

#137 6 years ago

door skin is done, about 3 1/2 hours of buffing.
not perfect, a few dents and bumps but look much better now. too bad new door skin for williams early ss doesn't exist.

first pic is before.

now putting back together this puzzle.

Brilliant! Not re-doing brushing, I assume?

#139 6 years ago

That's unreal! I don't have the patience or the tools! Nice!

#140 6 years ago

That looks like a million bucks. Now for the fold down coin chute. Maybe get that chromed?

thanks, well i hope so, i told him last summer to take his time and he's not the fastest guy. i will give him a call this weekend and put some pressure.
there's always the new decals from retrorefurbs.

That's pretty sweet. What did you use to paint the coin door? And what I was asking about brushing was the brushed metal pattern on the front of the door. It appears you will keep it polished?

#147 6 years ago
Quoted from beatmaster:

That's amazing, I can't believe you can shine up a coin door and it looks brand new. My machine our cleaned and working 100% with lots of patina and that is as far as I go. That said this inspires me to one day do a complete restore like this for fun.

#148 6 years ago

Hmmmmmm. that looks great, you have my approval.

thank you.
Rust-oleum metallic. (the inside parts of the door).
the other part is matte black.
yes, like other parts on the machine, door frame, lockdown bar, etc... but along the way it might change, if i get chrome parts.

#150 6 years ago

I think you're doing a fantastic job on this restoration and I enjoy seeing your progress. Can't wait to see the finished machine.

Do you happen to know of any place that sells that small door for coin return? I have a Blackout and I think it may supposed to have a door like that on it.
