Firepower
Williams, 1980Picked up a Firepower, got life flowing to it again - all seems well, except having the game powered on rapidly heats up the end of the AC cord, and moreso the outlet plug - to the point where it started melting. I've tested another game in the same outlet, and tried Firepower in a different outlet on a separate circuit as well. The problem is definately coming from the game itself.
I haven't been able to find anything online, does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this?
Seriously though, start with replacing the cord and plug (its 40 years old, replace it anyway, ensure it is earthed correctly!) and then check the transformer.

Sounds like a good place to start - I assume the issue would be limited to the AC side of the circuit - was hoping someone else may have had to deal with this first hand before.
Sounds like to much resistance building up between wall outlet and transformer. A short in transformer or just a bad plug. You can use one of those laser thermometer guns that harbor freight sells to help track down where the heat issue starts.

Sounds like you're well on your way to a fire. Maybe someone has over fused or bypassed the circuit protection. Start by checking all of the fuse values, particularly the fuse for the incoming 120v.
Then replace the power cord. It is likely that a number of stranded wires in the cord are broken cranking up the resistance and turning it into a toaster.
