I was watching a Youtube video of someone playing a Firepower and was surprised to see drop targets instead of the 1-3 and 4-6 stand ups I know from Pinball Arcade. Was this an original or prototype feature or did this guy just mod his machine? He says he changed the display to a 7 digit too which I've heard of before as I met a guy who did just that to his FP.

Here's the vid:

I think the prototypes had drop targets, but they changed them to stand up targets because of reliability concerns (sys 6 drop targets are garbage).

Some people have converted there games to use drop targets.

You can add the drop targets, but it does change the feel of the game.

Some guys love it and some say it slightly slows the play....

Thanks for posting the link to the video. I had not seen a video of Firepower with drops installed. I have been wrestling with the idea of converting mine to drop tagrets, but the stories about slowing down gameplay kinda deterred me. After seeing this video (sucky play and all) I don't see a huge slow down at all. Another one of my concerns was how the game would keep track of targets from ball to ball in multiplayer games. I still need a clear explanation of how that will work before I make the plunge.

This is probably a boneheaded question...could you do the same for a Game Show?

The reason you can "easily" add the DTs to Firepower is because the drivers for the DT reset solenoids are otherwise unused and the control feature is still in the existing software.

Only if somebody was willing to alter the ROM image to allow it.

Yeah. I don't think that's going to happen
It is a fun game though. Especially when you crank the slope of the playfield up. Brainless fun.
