Been playing my players FBC more than any of my other games. Ill run off a 2 or 3 million point game, then get my ass handed to me in the next game. There is an addictive quality to this particular table, love the non stop action. And also love whacking the snot out of the captive ball! I put a clear acrylic ball behind the captive ball and it picks up the light from the red arrow insert, looks like a real fireball in there. Great game.

I have a CPR Gold Eight Ball Deluxe playfield that I decided not to use. Would like to trade it for a really nice Fireball Classic. PM me if interested.

Tried the red 555 from PBR, like it but still needs a little more light in areas. Going with shorter legs in the near future, but for now, just love playing the thing.

I acquired a FBC not to long ago and just got around to shopping it out and getting it running again. It looks very nice and seems to be playing fine but there is one thing I'm curious about. There is a pulsating type of background sound that plays constantly, even in attract mode - very annoying. Is this normal? I wouldn't think it was supposed to play in attract mode. If so, is there anyway to turn it off?

Hey all
I have had my fireball classic for almost 3 years now and haven't had many problems with it but as of recently my disk has stop spinning and I was wondering if anybody has encountered it before and what it typically is. Thanks in advance

Finally someone made a repro backglass for fireball classic. CPR did an excellent job on making this. Thanks CPR.

Alright guys, I have recreated the back-glass artwork, recreated the side cabinet art (still needs to be tested), added front cabinet artwork, my playfield is good enough in my opinion so I am not going to spend the countless hours recreating the artwork for that. I do however want to create Custom Instruction Cards/Apron Cards as I do not like the plain old white ones. Has anyone thought over what they would include on them besides the stereotypical rules and game icon with freeplay or for amusement only on it?

This is the one I picked up a few weeks ago. The guy bought it new in 1985 and it’s been in his basement ever since. Still has the faded glass although I didn’t even realize it until I got it home and started reading up on it. A few marks but in great condition overall considering it’s pretty much all original. Runners are new and maybe the moulding around the edges as it seems to be red in the pictures I’ve seen.

The cabinet is faded too, but overall, this is a VERY clean classic! Often in addition to the BG fading, it peels from the bottom. Yours seems pretty well intact. Nice Pin!

Finished with the new cards and installed them...next step is printing and installing decals, t molding, then powder coat. Enjoy the custom instruction cards / apron cards!

Anyone have any suggestions for this? It’s the part under the blue plastic Where it says release the fire gods. It’s one side that holds a pinball in place to hit the red thing which releases the ball. I know that’s a terrible description but hoping someone understands. Anywhere I can buy a repayment or will I have to make something?

I've looked for that piece myself and had no luck. I've cut one out of lexan clear plexiglass but I have not installed it yet.

My "on kicker" rollover switch is shorting out constantly and I can't seem to find a replacement switch. According to the manual its part number a390-00022-0000. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement? Is it possible to rebuild a switch if you can't find a replacement?

Got some custom rails made from carbon fibre. Was worried they might block the light but seems good and so far they seem pretty durable. Was cheaper to have made then the sets I could find online and the ones I made out of plexiglass kept breaking.

Can anyone confirm the part number for the spinning disc motor?
The one in mine is dead and looks like it was replaced before. Mine shows Gottlieb B-7760, 26 rpm, 30volt spec 658. The ohms on my coil reads 9.1. Is this the original motor? It says Gottlieb.

I’m now trying a new B-7760 Motor that a friend had, it reads 2.3 ohms and it’s blowing the 1 amp motor fuse in the bottom of the cab. The solenoid expander lamp flashes on and off in lamp test. The new motor moves a second or two in lamp test then blows the 1amp motor fuse.

I want to make sure this is the correct motor to use as I can’t find the motor part number in the manual. Thanks

Just joined the club this week. It’s a definite project with poor mylar removal destroying the playfield. Also lots of wire hacks underneath. Anyone happen to have a spare playfield they aren’t using? Players condition would work. Looking forward to bringing it back to life!

Hello; joined the club myself in the last week and thought I'd post something curious.

I noticed the game has a knocker but its never actuated. The manual shows the knocker, the knocker is coil 11 in the coil chart and self test menu and the wiring diagram shows knocker wiring, plug position etc.

When you receive a credit, the machine makes an electronic noise. So my first thought was there is a setting for the noise or knocker. Nope! So now my curiosity is really aroused. In the coil test menu, #11 fires nothing. I was going to get my meter out and test for a pulse at the coil but thought I'd merely ground the transistor at the solenoid board to fire the knocker.

As indicated by the manual, Q16 is for the knocker... and its not there. I'm assuming this was done deliberately by Bally to save a few pennies since the machine makes and electronic noise when a credit is one, so therefore it has been programmed to do so.

Anyone else notice this? For fun I'm going to add the missing driver to the board when I pull it for new caps and see if the knocker fires.

If bally wanted to save a few pennies, they would not have installed a knocker assembly in the game in the first place.

Before you replace the driver transistor, make sure the knocker coil and diode is good.

Otherwise, you'll blow the new transistor instantly again.

I have seen this before, what they call a "running change" where half the change is done and the other half is not for one reason or another.

There is no transistor on the board at all and the board tags match the game.

That's interesting, we'll see if anyone else reports the same.

For another data point, I've got a FBC game, with original boards & tags (-35 MPU), and it still has it's factory Motorola driver transistor for the knocker.

Id have to have my niece look at the cab and see what range the serial number is, but I know the lamp and solenoid boards are white.

This subject is driving me crazy.
I can't remember ever hearing a knocker on the 2 FC owned.
Do not know if mine has one.
Won't be able to properly explore till Saturday (Keeping Granddaughter).
Do remember it making a crazy, rare sound a few times when it won a game but hasn't since installing
a new MPU.
Best way to describe the sound;

Yup.

I'm going to head out to mine now and take pics.

Just noticed the 330 ohm resistor above it is missing as well. TIP-102 is a good replacement for the driver and I have plenty of those.

FBC has a knocker that works, if yours doesn’t then you have an issue.

Quoted from jj44114:

It makes an electronic noise when you win a free credit.

Does it do both? Usually that is not the case.

I know it thunks when you roll over @ 9,999,999

But I can't think of the other standard thunking scores.

I think it's one of those Bally where you have to turn on the awards to "03" with the coin door switch. Maybe setting number 15,16 or 17?

I tried that before discovering the driver was not on the solenoid board.

Simply have to wait for my next Mouser order as I have no 330 ohm resistors in stock.

Then run the solenoid test, and see if she fires

Just passing on a tip! I have seen other Fireball Classics exhibit this behavior and due to Quench I was able to fix it on mine.

Problem; Some controlled lamps will flash or flicker when on. On mine it was the bonus multipliers 2x 3x 4x 5x, bonus levels 5-10-15-20 and the score lamps in front of the two saucers.

Solution; Check chip location U14, if it has a 4049 chip it is incorrect. Replace with 4049UB or CD4049UBE, it must be an UNBUFFERED 4049 chip. I used a MC14049UB harvested from an old Star Trek sound board that was in my recycling pile and it worked perfect and the lights are rock solid now.

Bally was running out of parts inventory during this time period and there might have been some substitutions that they deemed acceptable which nonetheless caused minor problems like this.

While I was swapping out U14 I also changed out the NVRAM socket which was sketchy.

I installed new plastics from CPR on my Fireball Classic and was having issues with the captive ball getting out of the captive ball lane. The new clear plastics have too large a gap. So I installed a 1 1/8” bingo ball and that works great!

See that aluminum post adjacent to the Odin hole? There is a mini-rubber ring that goes there. Really helps the ball seat and improves play to OEM.

I think it plays great with the 1 1/8” ball. I don’t like the look of rubbers on those aluminum spacers. To each their own.

Should knock on match award and new highe score if the settings are set right. I think it also knocks if specials are set to game award instead of extra balls

Hi all. I've had my FBC for a few years. It's the 2nd pin I ever bought and it's going nowhere. Absolutely love it.

That said, I have periodically had some sound issues, more often than not it's been with the backgound sound only. It's completely gone while the playfield sound effects work find. I just purchased one of the weebly cheap squeak replacements boards (which looks fantastic), but that didn't fix it. Same issue.

Any pointers?
