I purchased this pin in Indianapolis in 2012. At the time I was renting a property in Melbourne Ky.
Shortly after I was called to work on the TV show Dallas. I was supposed to only be gone 4-5days.My last day on set nearly 3weeks later I got the call: Tweakers had broke into the house robbed small valuables and torched the place with gasoline.

I was more than devastated by this
The property owner was a single mom and I felt for her. I also felt anger, shock, lost faith in humanity, couldn't understand why someone would destroy my collection for drug money?

When I went to the property it was still smoldering 3days later. All my pins destroyed but one. I had just finished my Bride of Pinbot project
And was going to get an Mpu for Fire!

This Machine had been taken off route after 6months for lack of play, and later had it's mpu used in a profitable game. Meanwhile it sat in storage until I bought it from likely a pinsider .

It was still folded up and close to the exit door, the wiring, boards, playfield were all fine, the cab has mostly smoke and residue damage , except for the front left corner and part of the front panel,

I have decided to keep some smoke on the main brown color as a tribute to it's history.

Right now it's missing: pf glass, lockdown bar, Mpu, beacon light assy (it was there before),

Parts that.need replacement: flipper buttons, start button, possibly transformer

Photos of machine before starting

Note: I didn't take pics of the backbox of cab prior to starting, it need the MDF replaced as it swelled up from water

Some pinsiders from Cincinnati might remember the fire from seeing this on the news

#8 4 years ago

First I'm accessing the cab and artwork some pics below

IMG_20190717_190455 (resized).jpgIMG_20190717_190455 (resized).jpgIMG_20190717_195010 (resized).jpgIMG_20190717_195010 (resized).jpgIMG_20190717_200720 (resized).jpgIMG_20190717_200720 (resized).jpg

So.the cab side artwork can be saved with touchups, after I'll clear coat

How I did this was :

1. Take a orbital or 1/4 sheet if that's what you have, use 400 grit sandpaper, sand the area in a circular motion constantly moving for 2-3 minutes , you don't want to stay in one spot more than a second or two.

2. Use a foam up style cleaner, I used a cheap wheel cleaner from the dollar store, but you may not . Spray it over the area you just sanded, let it sit for a few minutes.

3. Once the foam has started to thin out you may see it has discolored that's actually very good, grab a shop rag and wipe in a circular motion until it's nearly dry

4.repeat

Keep doing this until most if not all the artwork is as clean as it can get. Then decide whether you want to touch up or sand down and vinyl the art

Side note: the wheel cleaner works well on the side rails as well

Thanks @daditude. You get credit for motivating me !

I think it took so long is because Everytime I looked at it, I was reminded of what happened, arson is a bitch!

Have you ordered any parts for it?

Do you have a list of things you need for it?

In the opening I listed things missing and things known to need replaced

I have some smaller parts on hand, haven't ordered anything yet, want to take care of the cabinet first, then clean playfield ,wiring etc.

The hardest things will be the beacon light and the mpu, luckily the playfield was spared, having mylar likely helped, I did see at least one plastic that is warped from heat, and if it's just that one, you can see it in the pics, I'll likely leave it as a tribute

I just picked up a Big Guns project with a very similar looking backbox (lack of CPU and in my case AUX + display).

I know you're interested in the CPU board that I have. I have applied corrections to the initial revision and now I am working on some other things before I send off the corrected CPU board for fabrication. I am considering the System 11 sound board as well but I have other commitments over the summer so it's not super fast progress.

If you don't manage to find the System 11A CPU board that you're looking for I'm hoping that my solution will be able to help you bring this machine back to life.

You could also purchase a Rottendog MPU9211 but I prefer to use the original components which is why I worked on the solution that I have.

I would prefer a 11a or 11b,, I wouldn't mind a rottendog at least the previous version, but I'd prefer original if possible,

Could you clarify for me, are you doing a run of mpus? Or offering an original?

I'm with you on the originals. Be aware that the System 11B sound mixing section has a different specification than the System 11A sound mixing section so they aren't quite interchangeable. (Reference: http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Williams_System_9_-_11#Voice_callouts_are_much_softer_than_music.2Fsound)

I don't have an actual System 11A original. I only have a System 11 and System 11B spare (I use both on my bench or as a known good so they aren't for sale).

I intend to have the new board manufactured at some stage in the future (coming months). Once I get those boards I'll have to populate one to verify that it all works correctly and then I can prepare to provide them to people that need them. I did not have any intentions on providing populated boards but I can make exceptions. Fair warning ... these aren't likely to be cheap because I built them for myself and if I do provide them to people I'd like to recover some of the NRE associated with it. Add to that my labor if populated (I'm not fast - rather super anal) and ... you see where I'm going.

I'd be game for a kit!!

Especially if I could use sockets for the differences between 11a and b

Additionally, @wolffpac, has developed system 11 displays for your missing display problem

Quoted from dc2010:

The main board doesn't have any significant differences. All the differences between the revisions of System 11 I have separated into daughter boards. The system allows for the differences. I might consider putting in DIPs or switches for the DAC board but it's a lot of switching. The DAC board is small enough (and the BOM is cheap enough if the ICs are socketed) to have multiple daughter boards to allow a solution that can be switched between the revisions.

The first picture I have posted before but you can see the main board I populated is completely socketed. The DAC daughter board (top left) is the initial revision of the board that is silk-screened for System 11B. I revised this daughter board and you can see the rendering in the second picture.

The DAC daughter board plugs into the main board at the top left of the main board.

I am working on a generic display solution for a buddy - more for the purposes of diagnostics but can be re-purposed to be actual displays for use in real machines.

Im not sure what parts you need on your board, but someone just listed a system 11 board here on pinside.

#22 4 years ago

Its unclear honestly, the board was untested prior to the fire, I don't remember why I didn't test it prior, ill have to clean the smoke off then evaluate

#23 4 years ago

So , the front left corner is delaminating from heat damage, I will need to remove the those pieces that are too delicate and loose, fortunately I have materials to remedy it, no pics today, but next post will

Continued cleaning the sides, started on front panel, did some test cleaning of wiring, boards, and inside back box,

Gonna be busy with life stuff next few days, an the auction is Saturday, so next post maybe several days or less if I find time to work on it

Just remember....lots of those guys buy in bulk, so people come up to them afterwards buying the part or parts that they really wanted. Raymond Jett is a BIG parts buyer.

Haven't had alot of time lately to work on. Fire, I did do some cleaning of the boards and wiring, and I tested the system 11a mpu that was also in the fire, I had purchased it for this pin but hadn't tested, after the fire I didn't think it would be any good, to my surprise if cleaned up and only the ROMs are bad, though the sound section. Is missing ic's

Damn man, what a story. Good luck on the restore of your machine.

Thank you!

When I arrived to the house, I looked around an I cried, I just couldn't believe someone could do that! , All the other machines were either a pile of smoldering Ash or a burnt empty shell, but there was fire folded up by the door, somehow it survived, and I remember thinking if it survived it deserves to live again, it's taken me 6 yrs to recover and get back into the hobby, and my hope is to have Fire! Up and running by the end of the yr, but with kids and school it'll be a challenge

I see you have. BOP....sadly my BOP was a victim in that Fire

I really can imagine. That they take your stuff is really bad as it is but torching the place is really unnecessary. Some beings just deserve to suffer for a really long time and get en horrific ending.

My BOP has been restored to the full recently (see the BOP thread): https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/bop-clubnon-20/page/35#post-5076368

Keep up your head man, glad you're back and good luck on the restore. If you need some assistance, PM me.
Got a Fire! too, I was so bold to remove the mylar (and I got lucky). Check it here: http://www.flipperforum.be/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=7569

Thank you so much!

My playfield was fortunate! Few plastics got warped that's all, this pf was not worn prior to the fire so , I need some assistance with the rotating flame plastic under the center of pf, mine is Missing after all these years

I'm hoping to get some progress made on it this weekend, I'm currently tied up doing touchups on a playfield for someone.

I know I've seen the plastic for that for sale by at least one of the 'mainstream' parts places. I'm curious what you're referring to as the 'beacon' light, as Fire has the bell on top, no light on the backbox. And if by any chance you ever stumble on someone selling the vacuformed buildings, jump on them. I don't *need* a set (just have some dings on the upper center building) but have always kept my eyes open for them nonetheless, and they seem to be pretty much unobtainium.
