Flipper bats: black, red or orange?

I like the way the black looks with the pf art.. orange looks nice as well. Hadnt realized what a nice looking pf that game has.
looking great!

#53 3 years ago

I think black is the best of the three too. Trying to do some different things other than white or yellow.

Yes, it really does!

The targets are installed. I wanted to add some color rather than all red. I like it but married to it with the price of them.

Cleaned up the ramp and have it fitted.

red (which look orange-red in the photo) with blue rubbers.

I like to aim for MAXIMUM contrast to the playfield art so that the flippers really stand out.

That's a great combo, like how the blue rubbers seem connected to the playfield art, it's looking great Dave, bet you will be playing it in a week

#57 3 years ago

Thanks guys. The hose is blue so it would be a nice contrast! I have Titan's due to show up Monday and got a few different colors to try.

I don't think I'll be ready to play in a week, but it's pretty close! The harnesses are drying so that should give me plenty to do. I can't really put them on much else on yet until I get the wire to staple down.

My friend is due to come over and see what we can do with his 3D printer to make some supports and some protection for the buildings. I plan to cut new lexan for the lift ramps and ramp flaps for them.

Love the Yellow, Orange, Red targets setup. Looks sharp, and different but in a good way.

Some more mech assembly parts assembled and installed.

I love to see the less highly rated games get some love like this. Fire! is a great, unconvenational game with fun music and sounds. Being a firefighter, I should never have sold mine!

Chri

#61 3 years ago

Yes me too Chris. I had played it on my first visit to York Show in 2011. I really liked it. Took me a few years to finally get one. Hopefully we will see more of the lower rated games get love in the coming years.

Stapling the GI. Small portable compressor and staple gun. I have 80 gallon in the garage but it’s a bit too large to drag into the house.

Laid in the solenoid and lamp harnesses. Lot of extra boards to mount on these 11A’s then I’m used to.

Couple things I didn’t notice during tear down or cleaning until installing. One insert lamp is missing the spring: I have a new one fitted. One 89 flash lamp holder was repaired with some caulk. That will get replaced with a new holder.

Cue the guy who said my wiring is trash lol! Hint: not ready for wiring clean up; will be done at the end.

For the 1-2 peeps watching, LED’s are ordered. Mostly all sunlight for GI and inserts. Have some fire effects as LED’d incoming too to see how they look.

Keep it up and thanks for posting

Watching as well as i have had a Fire for years in need of restro but just haven't had the time to do yet but would like to do one day soon.

Thanks all.

Thank you #1 lol! They’re pretty good. One needs some heat to reshape. Friend was over and he’s going to make me up some 3D printed areas to add some “meat” where they’re chipped. It’s on me to make some tracings as templates for him. Essentially we will make a plastic protector. He will see if he can get a filament to match like the brown.

I owe some pics of them up close. Will get them soon.

It’s different but not any more difficult. It’s generally easier not having so much on the sys11’s but the braided GI takes a little time and needs done before too much can go on. So that’s an extra layer.

For what I’ve worked on W/B, I’d say system 11’s are easier than the later WPC/WPC95. But I haven’t done any early Sys11 other than this one. More of PITA with all the relay and resistor boards when laying down the harness. Hoping Gerry will let me do his Banzai Run. That will be fun!

I shared with Jeff but I might as well here regarding the Amazon 28v bulbs. No clue how they will work, but this is the link:

3-Bulbs BA15s Bayonet Base Single Contact 16 SMD 3528 LED Light Bulb 12V 93B2 1156 1141 S8 (Warm White 3000K) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077RTHT4X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tlU3EbK78HY5X

This is the warm white but they do have cool.

Did a tear down and build up of the right lift ramp. Originally was going to make a new ramp from Lexan and new ramp flaps. I cannot get a nice cut job to not look ugly on the edges so cleaned up the originals.

They look good and tumbled the hardware and cut a new flap with a Mylar strip down. I think it came out nice. Now to make another...!

Buildings: not too bad. Think I may try and do a support in Lexan under the ramp bridge areas. One has spider cracks. The other stuff isn’t too bad.

There's two comments in this thread about the gameplay being different/unique. Can you elaborate?

I've never played the game but something about it has always drawn me in.

It's not super unique, but there's no pop bumpers and not much of any time to pause. Hard to say but watch some videos of gameplay to see what I mean. I think it gets old quick for some. I'm not a rule guy so I'm not the best to explain the way to play.

Now that you mention it...that would feel different! Maybe that's why I'm drawn to it - wide open, clean playfield. Will check out some videos. Thanks.

What color sling rings? I’m feeling yellow is a no. Liking the orange the best.

In order: Orange, red, clear and yellow

It does a pretty good job of theme implementation. As the fires are raging you have to hit the targets to put them out. You find yourself focusing on one target only at times- it's rare/frantic as most games you can kinda pick your own path. Throw in a couple loops and no pops as stated makes the gameplay pretty fast also.

Orange for the slings.

D you mind sharing what that horizontal bulb is above the sling in the first pic?
I ordered the other bulbs and would like to get these as well.
I don't have my game so I am at a bit of a lose.
I want to get the stuff to my friend who is doing the pf swap.
I wish I has known about your services a year ago.
I am going to do my Old Chicago myself this winter.
Thanks ,

Sure they’re Comet’s 8SMD flasher bulbs. I have natural as they were out of warm whites. You’ll need to modify the boards to remove resistors to use. I’ll have to attack that when I get there.

Hey thanks! I’m sure you’re in good hands.

Maybe another Fire! owner can help me. This relay board I’m not seeing where there’s another pair of red wires for the COM. I don’t have any others to use here.

Does anyone have a picture or can clarify what I’m missing? Thanks!

Here is a pic of the relay.
You need a wire from com to 28v and 1 of the red wires needs to go to com.

Thank you!!!!! So I’m basically needing to run a jumper in red to each. Can’t believe I can’t find one.

Orange on the slings for sure.

I absolutely love seeing these old pieces of art come back to life.

Just awesome.

Thanks again bballfan that was an easy fix. I was going nuts last night not understanding what the heck I was missing. I’m sure the red wire will turn up one day. Lol

All in with wires moved and jumper in. My buddy Jeff printed this for me. Thought it was a funny way to make light of recent events.

I’ve lost count on how many of the smaller tumblers I’ve gone through now. Lost another one. This one was the plastic tub pulled the stud through. Motor is sounding bad so figured that’s what would go.

I love these little ones for some reason. I have the larger HF and it works good but just like the small ones for sifting out parts.

Have spare parts now building for them.

Thanks ha! I’m taking my time but I like to keep moving forward. It’s only been a few hours a day taking my time on this one.

Leds installed. Sunlight 2smd clear for GI (thanks again Ricochet for recommending these. Using them for about everything now.

Sunlight 1smd clear NG for inserts with green and reds for the few of these. They may go to sunlights when testing.

I have about all the mechs soldered since they’re all installed. Started on the switches but need to order some microswitches to complete. Progress is ugly but haven’t manscaped yet.

Amazing to me how efficient you are on these. You are getting close to already being done.. It looks like Cpr did a Really nice job on the colors for fire. After reviewing the system 11 list, it’s hard to find many on there that don’t have something special about them. Imo

Keep the posts coming

Quoted from dmacy:

Please don’t use this style rivets in pinball parts. Save that for fixing that rusted out floorboard in your 76 Matador.

A huge pain! Especially considering the plastic is screwed directly into the playfield the way it is.

Also, there is a guy who makes really nice supports for under the left and right ball lock ramps (struggling to think what you'd call them). If you look in the fire! club thread you should be able to find them, or the plans for them.

Thanks so far I seem to have a good system that’s working well. I usually have parts I need now that helps. And this title doesn’t have a whole lot of parts on it.

Yes good point! Ironically I’ll be doing a Taxi next but a Hardtop so this will be a little different swap to do.

Yes! He needs enough people to justify another batch. I started another request and should go bump it again. Not sure the technical term either but I like them.

Cleaned up the bell this morning while waiting for next project dropping off.

It wasn’t bad but I started giving it a hand job and it got it shiny in some spots but needed more than I can do by hand. I used my old Craftsman 1/3 with a 15+ year old Eastwood kit I have. Using both wheels and
brown and white rouge it came out nice.

Couple pics showing how how it’s mounted. I’m giving the frame a fresh coat of semi gloss black.
