Over the last 4 1/2 years I have owned pins, and been attending Pin events like Golden State, it seems I don't always like some of the commonly recognized popular pins. In now owning a Royal Flush, the realization of why finally struck. I am a very average player. In league (way back in the PC, Pre Covid, days) I was that guy pretty much in the middle of the pack at the end of the season. And at least some, of the popular games, are so partly because they are really challenging games that test a players skill. But for me, really challenging, doesn't always equal fun as when RF about the 10th game in a row has beaten me into submission. When there is the rare good game, it feels great, but in between, not so much. It kind of relates to why some people like American football with its high score totals, and others like soccer because a score is an event. I am the football type.

Posting this to see if I am alone in feeling this way. Or if there are other average players out there struggling to like the challenging Royal Flush type games.

That’s a great analogy. Soccer, or Footyball, is insane. I took to watching some of the league reruns of European games during The Quarantine, and those guys bust their ass and take such a beating for AN HOUR before they even score a goal!!! Holy crap!!

Some of the older games really feel like that! You just get beaten to hell and it takes everything to really pull off even a decent game, and if you put up a huge score it’s like charging the field!

Everyone has different taste and fun value in a game!
I'm not a big sports fan , however I'm loving my No Fear!

I play pinball to have fun,
A ten minute game is fun.
A 45 minute marathon is not fun
If i have to read a rule sheet before playing, its not fun
If i have to look at the display, its not fun

I'd rather play a machine that will give you a chance to win then one where every 2nd shot is a death shot. I had an old EM that was a drain monster...got rid of it because it was just not any fun.

I really am a EM guy that happens to own a walking dead pro. I do not own more solid state games because the more the technology advances the more non pinball crap they put on the games now. Since when do you have to have control over a third button? What does this mean, you have a third arm? No! Really!
No game should demand a constant attention to a display. How do you play good pinball with your eyes off the playfield? Nonsense, cumquats and the dumbest things since Og Ogleby bought shares in a "Steak Mine" from William Claude Dukenfield!
No really, when I state my opinion people roll their eyes and throw shit at me!
but ,in all fairness, YMMV!

Personally, while I like many modern games, and own 4 post em games. The third button and displays requiring constant attention are a pain and can be a distraction for someone of my limited skills and advancing age.

I buy games I like.
Some are more popular than others.
I own Highspeed, a popular game.
I owned a Trident for 10 years because I loved it. NOT a popular game!
I love AC/DC, popular game.
