So I finally got the topper in from Stern. I like it looks cool but I thought it would be bigger.just has two colors turns green and white and flashes sometimes. image-467.jpgimage-467.jpgimage-268.jpgimage-268.jpgimage-261.jpgimage-261.jpgimage-651.jpgimage-651.jpgimage-571.jpgimage-571.jpgimage-935.jpgimage-935.jpgimage-27.jpgimage-27.jpgimage-951.jpgimage-951.jpgimage-851.jpgimage-851.jpgimage-862.jpgimage-862.jpgimage-475.jpgimage-475.jpgimage-946.jpgimage-946.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Looks cool...but ya...I thought it would be the same width as the game head.

I am guessing with Stern they are hollow face molds?
Thinking that would be the lest expensive way to produce them.

Look cool lit up but did expect them to be as wide as the head of the game.

Sure...and if I owned a TWD, I'd have done more research before plopping down a few hundos.

But I have to ask, WTF were they thinking?
Do it right, or not at all.

I've seen this comment a lot, "thought it would be bigger" or "thought it would be the width of the backbox" and I wonder did Stern not make it clear enough? It's the size I expected it to be (granted I haven't seen it in person, maybe it feels smaller then) based on the photo Stern posted. They always show it from an angle though, never straight on. Maybe that's why!

#9 9 years ago

That topper is freaking me out!

#10 9 years ago

Id rather invest the $400 towards another pin but for a topper its pretty neat.

It is exactly the way it is shown on the website. Looks great and the right size to me. Shrug.

If it was the full width, it would be two feet tall and would not fit in a lot of rooms with low ceilings...

Funny, I've never heard that.

Stern should stick to making pinball machines. Leave the mods to the experts!

looks great
did it take long to install?

My ex-girlfriend said it quite often.

Based simply on your avatar it is not surprising that I completely disagree with your opinion here.

I can't stand even one second of Springsteen's caterwauling. On the other hand I think this is the best topper ever.

#18 9 years ago

I think if it was $200 the size wouldn't be as much of an issue. That being said I ordered one last week as the detail is great and it didn't take long after I saw it in action to order. Its creepy, and morbid and I need it in my home, where I sleep, where my children come and play with their toy's.

Best mod "I" have yet! Well PDI is better but depends on how you look at what PDI is??? So I guess you don't like this topper on your twd/le?

Takes under 20 mins to get installed, pretty easy and straight forward.

#21 9 years ago

Or you could get one of these and a real fishtank that would fit on top.
Or make one out of plexi for less than 1/2 the price of the stern one.

Just remove the cloth sign and knives from the mouths.
Lifesize heads sold on halloween props websites.

Sorry, but way overpriced for what it is.

Their website ad is confusing. Look at the "box dimensions". Doing a quick backbox top measure of my MET, I have (appx.) 27-3/4"w x 7-3/4""d. According to their dimensions, this tank topper should be larger than the top of the backbox!

SP3 The Governor's Fish Tank

• Three sculpted zombie heads

• Interactive lighting

• Officially licensed through AMC

• Topper fits all The Walking Dead pinball models

Box dimensions 28.3125" x 10.9375" x 9.3125"

Installation was very simple and about 10 minutes, it came with very clear instructions and the detail on the topper is very nice and is made well

They are talking about the shipping box.

What I was thinking. 15 gallon aquarium. 10 gallon too small and 20 gallon too big. Search Ebay for "zombie heads", $50 dollar range. Get ones you like. LEDs and wire. And make one.

This is because the topper actually "is" the same width as the backbox. The fish tank is mounted on a bracket, and the bracket itself is the width of the backbox.

I thought the pics on Stern's website were accurate. I wasn't at all surprised or let down. It was pretty much exactly what I expected.

I've had a few of my avatars, I didn't think of that!

#28 9 years ago

What about all the different lighting settings on the back? I heard there was an eerie glowing flickering mode.

Let us not forget the board, and all the coding to make it interactive. If you just threw a tank up there with heads and lights, it's no better than the other toppers out there that just sit there.

This is why this is the only topper I own or will own.....game integration. I had the FT topper on my 2nd one I owned and that was cool since it was game integrated, but I sold that off.

#30 9 years ago

Ya, Stern's gonna put this guy out of business.

$400 stern topper or $145 playfield tank from Laserriffic...

At the end of the day I like it. I think it's worth getting !!

No one can make a board ?

Quoted from pinball_erie:

and all the coding to make it interactive

Is that not in the game ?

Looks like one connector goes to board in the head.

Sounds doable to me.

I love my topper. I thought they would intigrate it with the code to show locks a bit more, but it is awesome.

For reference, here's the governor's tank from the show...

I got mine today and the game left today
Gotta get my scared stiff sold so I can buy a premium !!!
Anybody looking for a very nice scared stiff shoot me a pm

Between this post, his bizarre and awesome choice in an avatar, and his mod he made to his well walker...this guy is turning into my favorite poster on Pinside!

That's exactly what it is from... Probably the best 90's animation movie. Vampire Hunter D was also awesome.

I like it.
