    Quoted from Methos:

So what....millions of people have quit, including myself. Take responsibility, you know the shit kills and can't say no? Enjoy your time while you're here.

Methos, did you turn into a Smoking Nazi or an Anti-smoking Nazi? I knew the shit could kill for me years before I manage to quit; It was around 1966 when I started smoking. I started at the same time the first warning labels were put on the packs: “Caution: Cigarette Smoking May be Harzardous to Your Health."

How about you? Can you ever say you smoked in ignorance? How many times did you light up and whistle past the graveyard before you finally managed to put them down for good? You never made a midnight run to the store because you were out of smokes? Or dig a butt out of your trashcan because your pack went empty? Tell the truth.

I have a friend who smoked Pall Mall Reds for years and one day he just put them down and was smoker no more. Were you like that? Most of us had to struggle to give them up.

    #107 4 years ago

And while vaping is in an uproar in the U.S. over in the UK the attitude is a bit different.

I used to smoke and used Kodiak for years, all the while I knew it was harm full. When you are young, you just can't see view your mortality correctly. Wasn't until I was older and saw people dying of lung cancer that I knew I was taking a risk that I just couldn't take. Sure I was hooked like everyone else, and fell off the wagon a few times but it's just like eating meat, dairy, and processed food. It's so pleasurable and tastes so much better than kale and spinach, but it's deadly and increases your risk for disease and an early death. At some point you have to use your intellect, willpower, and commit to yourself and your loved ones.

I get that it's hard to quit, but unlike in the 50's when Doctors endorsed them, we know the damage that it does. Ignorance isn't an excuse anymore, just like our western diets. If you can pony up the bet and take the risk, that's your choice. As for vaping, I don't know how anyone can think inhaling anything in your lungs other than air is a good thing, and then again the air we breath isn't always good.

Should I go ahead and take some acid too? Maybe eat some magic mushrooms?

This is all about the US government losing money to the vaping industry. From what I have read, the deaths are being caused from Vitamin E found in THC cartridges. But the government wants to lump ejuices into the mix. Vitamin E is not found in Ejuice and doesnt make sense to do that either. The Vitamin E in THC is used as a thickener essentially to "cut" the THC Oil.

Its a strange scenario to just ban everything. When there is a recall on beef for salmonella, they dont go pulling the beef of every company off the shelves...

The biggest problem is you have people making decision with no knowledge of the products. A lot of talk out and about shows that as well...

I have been hearing a little bit about this. I can't verify it. But what I hear is that these Juul vapes use a replaceable juice pod. And counterfeiters are making THC pods with Vitamin E oil as the carrier. And as the carrier oil cools off in your lungs it coats them with oil and you can't breathe.

As stated, I cannot verify this, but sounds plausible. I know several many people who have been vaping for several years without issue. So, a lot of this sounds like the govt. trying to control the revenue and taxes. Sort like online gambling, I suppose.

Clearly banning isn't the answer (except for stuff aimed at kids), total legalization and regulation is.

I rarely vape THC, and I'm completely avoiding it now unless it comes from legal, regulated sources.

I know a lot of people who vape and have vaped for a long time. It should strike anyone odd that these have been out for like a decade now, and all at once, literally, people are getting the same illnesses at the same time. Doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that its something with the current batch of whatever.. Also, there are like 10 million+ people that vape but only an extremely small handful (455 people or so) are having this problem.

Time to use our heads and connect the dots.

    #115 4 years ago
    Quoted from Rager170:

these have been out for like a decade now,

Ecigs/vaporizers have been available since 1968.

Remember pilot pens? I bought one in 1972

They are not new and no one has been harmed if using legitimate fluids in them.

Putting glue, paint thinner, toluene, drugs etc to get high was never their purpose.

More people have died from inhaling aerosol paint than ecigs.

    Ban spray paint too.

More people have died from tainted spinach, spoiled mayo, chicken and fish than ecigs.

Ban mayo, spinach, chicken, seafood and hotdogs.

More people have died from choking on hot dogs than vaping.

People are suffering from a high fat, high sugar, high salt diet.

    Ban these items too.

But keep cigarettes, they are very profitable for tax revenue.

And as always, it's to protect the children.

You are inferring that ecigs are targeting minors.

    Good enough.

Can you point me in a direction that clearly shows this?

Can you point me to any ecig ad that shows minors using it.

As for the flavor nonsense, this infers that adults do not like anything flavored.

Adults do not like chocolate, strawberry or vanilla.

Adults do not like candy or fruit.

Adults do not like flavored alcohol or flavored cocktails.

Adults only like flavorless items that taste bad.

This argument is utter and complete nonsense.

We just banned all vaping products in Mass for 4 months, just went into effect.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but how do you ban vape products and not cigarettes? Just seems odd to allow the newer, unknown (but likely to be terrible for you) product and allow the one that has been absolutely killing people for decades.

    I read the entire article.
The CDC claims that children might see an ad, and might vape.

    However they might not.

So the CDC is selling a fantasy with no evidence to back it up.

Children also see ads for viagra, depression drugs, razors, alcoholic beverages, car insurance and hiring legal council.

Under the CDC's fantasy these products are also targeting children.

Or 100% of all advertising is targeted towards children.

    Again, hogwash.

This is a very rational post. I guess they need to be absolutely sure about how vaping is killing people before they fully greenlight it?

A full ban creates a black market that will take decades to regain control of.

The whole thing smells of political posturing at the very real expense of the people.

Cigarettes generate vast sums of tax dollars and tobacco companies make large campaign donations. The tobacco companies are using the government to stifle competition from small vaping companies. Heavy regulation of a product helps the largest companies who can afford compliance costs and kills smaller, more innovative companies that don't have giant legal teams. It's always about following the money.

Well said mr vape. I’ll stick with being anti-vape. My kids in middle school and classmates vape, yet wouldn’t have started smoking.

As for how do you ban this and not cigs...you ban the shit now before it gets a stranglehold like cigs. THAT argument is hogwash.

Too funny! Back in the day I was going to use candy to stop smoking. I went to K-mart 2 days after Halloween and all these awesome big ass bags of candy were on sale for pennies. For 5 bucks I had a huge candy box, full of variety.

My girlfriend at the time sees it and says, nice that you are trying to quit smoking, I think your dentist will love you soon.

There is a conspiracy theory out there that the razor blades were made up by the candy companies for Halloween. There have been no evidence of razor blades in apples. The theory goes that the candy manufacturers wanted a way to convince parents that sealed treats were safe vs non sealed treats like caramel apples. Social media before social media.

The problem is, you dont go around just banning stuff. People should be allowed to make their own choices. You can educate and send out warnings all you want but at the end of the day, people should be allowed to do what they want.

Not much freedom when your government is telling you that you constantly cant do this and that.

A lot of money will be made on the black market there lol.

    Definitely prohibitionist political posturing there.

Historically, prohibition is a very bad thing.

Those involved should be driven out of office.

The great state of Michigan has the highest number of cigarette smokers per capita.
They also have the highest number per capita of minors smoking cigarettes.

Ecigs are seriously cutting into their tax revenue.

It seems to me that there are 2 possible solutions.

    1) Tax ecigs appropriately

    2) ban ecigs altogether, starting with a temporary ban. Let the black market have it. Force the people that vape to go back to smoking.

One would think that if the public health were an issue, solution #1 would be on the table.

    Follow the money.
