Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

Didnt gain anything from thsi weeks episode.....No fun, no zombies, no entertainment.
I understand from interviews where some of those behind this show want to go, and that it is about the characters, but it seems to me that most watchers dont care.
With no character empathy, its hard to respond to this direction the show is moving, IMO.

Exactly. When we have already gotten to the point where we hate the characters and are rooting for the zombies you can't have a character show with no zombies.

We liked Salazar and they killed him. We liked Strand but I'll bet the stab wound goes fatal if he can get out of his contract. Travis is awful and should die. We don't like Madison and her daughter is just dull. Chris would have been good if he was developed as this character from the start but he was the caring kid with the camera the first season and turned into a person who wants to watch people die? Nick we don't just want dead with want torture and death. But he was from day one the center of the show with typical Hollywood love for the cool kid on drugs.

Funny, I could not remember the kids name (Chris) so I just went to google it using "Fear the walking dead characters" as a search term and google did its guess and came up with - "Fear the walking dead characters annoying" and "Fear the walking dead characters unlikeable". So without reading about this show outside of Pinside I guess we are on target with then other viewers.

With this show the walking dead is the show itself. When will it lay down and die.

I didn't even tune into my dvr'd September 18th episode of FTWD after reading this. Horrible! However, I was hoping that someone would have watched the September 25th episode of FTWD and posted some Cliff Notes version of what's going on in that trainwreck of a show, just so I could feel confident I'm not missing anything decent. But.. nobody posted anything about the latest episode of FTWD. No complaints, no nothing.. is everyone out? LOL

No, they're still all in & watching every week, they just like to bitch!!

What else is on? It is Sunday night right before bed time and I am already depressed about a Monday morning rush hour commute to work. I just want to sit, unwind and relax to the idiot box. In one room is the TV and my computer and the other my girlfriend watching murder porn on the ID channel figuring out the best way to dispose of my body.

So I flip on AMC on TV and on the computer scan the news, Pinside forum, CL or maybe to really get mindless play computer solitaire. I like to keep the habit so come October 23rd I'm set to see Negan bash someone's head in and hope that when the tiger guy appears it is not a shark in disguise. Hey, I guess you're right, I'm ready to bitch!

Oh yes. It is even on while I sleep I have to listen to "Wives with Knives" and stuff. Oh, I hate that Joe Kenda Homicide Hunter. The only way the idiot solves a case is when they walk into the precinct door and turn themselves in. And he'll say something stupid like "Now that's a clue".

She will also watch Ghost haunting shows and Ancient Aliens. The only thing we agree on is South Park.

The Alien thing bugs the crap out of me. Some guy will hold up a rock with a hole in it and claim it might be a portal to transport between planets. And if I say what crap that is she'll tell me to stop being negative its just a theory. Then they will show the same rock on some archeology show as a piece of artwork representing fertility. And if I say "looks like an alien transporter to me" she will tell me I'm being stupid and the show is not about aliens. Arrrggghhh.

Sorry to vent. Wong thread. Where is the 5 cent psychiatrist thread?

AA (resized).pngAA (resized).png

#906 7 years ago

No Problem....I cant handle that guy, and the ancient alien stuff, even though I followed von daniken in the 70's.

Maybe another thread on that, as I have family involved in that stuff.

But like TWD, My wife will watch that and the murder shows, but mostly and the joy comes from evil abusive husband, wife strikes and kills him, and gets away with it!

Knowing my health, shes just waiting...but yeah, makes me wonder about her plans sometimes, and the new set of large sharp knives she came home with.....

If you find me stuffed and dismembered inside a pin.....I said it here first!

oooo, Strand wakes up and eats a few people! Compelling, so yeah, won't happen.

I was excited for fear because it was supposed to tell the story of how the zombies came to be but that was done in like 2 episodes. Don't really care about this show due to storyline and annoying characters.

That seems to be the consensus. Now it is just a place holder show until the original comes back in a few weeks. I liked Preacher better as a filler.

It is also too late to go back now and try to reveal the story of how it all began. The original show did more with flashbacks and the CDC visit than this show did.

From season 1 this was just your usually Hollywood garbage riding off the coat tails of the original but making the military evil and the drug addict cool. Of course the original was not a product of Hollywood but a comic book turned show. TV writers are not worth their weight in offal.

I also think a subtle (but very impactful) issue with Fear the Walking dead is the zombies have less production value in them (compared with the Walking Dead). In Walking Dead, you can see they approach the zombie designs with innovation (animatronics, let's have this zombie's face peel off, these will be roasted and melting, etc). With Fear, the zombies really just come across as people in makeup. It's a small nuance, but makes the world less immersive.

#912 7 years ago

The last two episodes of Fear The Walking Dead were much better than any other this season.

If it gets a third season, I hope it continues in this manner.

Some weak writing in season two does not have to doom season three.

Now bring on Rick and Negan!

Well season 2 and the farm didn't doom Walking Dead either.

#915 7 years ago

I'd agree that it ended on a high note.

#916 7 years ago

Finally, Travis manned up. Even better, that punk Chris was finally killed off. And as a bonus, the gang of drug users got the Zombie treatment. So, I'll also give the Season 2 conclusion a thumbs up as the best of the show to date.

Also, does anyone else think that IDB's girlfriend's ears seem a bit too large in comparison to her head? Am I the only one thinking that?

#918 7 years ago

I bailed and did not want to invest 2 hours last night. But it sounds like I should watch it on rerun.

They talked about this on one of the shows. The Zombie's in Fear are noob zombies that haven't been around a while so they will look different. After a few years of them walking around (all making the same noise/groans - why do they all sound the same ?) they will look more ragged.

I get this, but even still, if you compare with the zombies in Walking Dead episode 1, the makeup isn't as extensive (bicycle zombie for example).

#921 7 years ago

besides the fact that they over did the whole smear a hand print of blood on your face to be immune to zombies, the finale was pretty good. The take away? ...no need to watch all the episodes; and just check out the 2-part finale instead.

Just finally caught up with TWD. That cliffhanger was terrible and the last half of the season was a little disappointing. Negan was cool. It's just a shame they decided to end the season with a fade to black and some lame CG blood on the screen. It was similar to the episode earlier in the season when Darryl got ambushed and they had a fade to black and CG splatter on the screen. The cliffhanger shouldn't have been who got hit with Lucille but will they live and what will happen to the others.

Oh well. Still looking forward to a new (and hopefully better) season.

I probably won't watch until the end or at least a few episodes are out. I like to watch a couple at a time.

I usually don't watch sneak peeks but couldn't help myself when I saw this in my Youtube feed. The speculation is interesting to who Negan killed. I know who he killed in the comic even though I haven't read it but I also know the show doesn't follow the comic. I have heard three or four suggestions who it was.

Good scene though. Classic Rick and Negan is looking awesome.

Based on this scene, it looks like there is a good possibility that Rick may lose his hand similar to the comic (but there it was cut off by the governor).

Yeah I heard that. I wish I had refrained from watching the sneak peek. That would have been a great shock like GOT when the Kingslayer lost his hand.

I still think it was a big mistake the way that the ended last season with the cliffhanger as to who Negan killed. If you really wanted to know the answer, you can find it. That's one of the pitfalls to doing it the way that they did.

They should have just shown who Negan killed. Leave us with that. It would have had more impact then than it will now.

Hey, anyone notice that the loser punk Chris who was recently killed off from FTWD has shown up in Agents of Shield as Ghost Rider's paralyzed brother? He's not any better in that role than he was on FTWD.

It was mentioned on Talking Dead. He seemed very proud of the new role.

Having read the comics well before the TV show, I (of course) remember who is supposed to die. But there is still an element of doubt - will they change the storyline? Kill someone else in addition to xxx? I know how frustrating was the last season ending, but my sons (*) and I thought it was it great cliffhanger. In a "FY" way - we all thought "Geez, they're really evil...".

(*) they are 19 and 22 - guess they are old enough to watch the series

It. Was. Awesome.

Could not be more angry, upset, sad and shocked.

I will wait until tomorrow before discussing it in detail.

But this episode was a 10 out of 10.

Completely agree.......disturbing fo sho

#935 7 years ago

I thought it was done pretty good, my favorite part is how they teased they were going to hurt the kid (who nobody cares about), but instead only killed off two of the fan favorites and left the kid alone.

My other favorite part was watching "the Talking Dead" afterwards and watching all the actors cry and be so sad about what happened, and then at the same time be complete pansies because it was raining slightly on the set. They even mentioned at one point when rambling about their 'sacrifices' for the show, that they 'isolate' themselves as they film the show in 'rural Georgia'.

My problem with the show remains what is always has been: the actors (who aren't all that talented) and the writers (who aren't all that talented) think it's a drama when it's really an action/horror show.

So the action and story was pretty good, the acting and crocodile tears was god awful like always.

#936 7 years ago

I was just watching last season's finale of The Talking Dead and Producer Scott Gimple was saying he understood the criticism of the season 6 finale but they have the pressure to make a season 7 premiere that makes it worth it. I think they succeeded.

I wasn't sure how they were going to do it because I didn't really care who they were going to kill. I had already heard Glenn was the one in the comics and Abraham should already be dead but the emotion and tension was so high throughout. There was some speculation that Rick would get his hand cut off (I think it happens sometime in the comic?) and so I was really tense that he would cut his own hand off but then they pulled an Isaac and the Ram twist and Negan stopped Rick. It was really great. Honestly I didn't cry but my eyes were a little moistened during the last parts of the episode.

The episode didn't clue me into where the season is going (I don't watch the previews of the next episode) but I'm still excited for more.

#937 7 years ago

I just thought Rick had a million opportunities to kill Negan, but my wife was crying throughout the whole episode so whatever. Glen's bugged out eye was pretty cool.

#938 7 years ago
Quoted from mcluvin:

This is why it never works as a 'drama' for me. It's hard to care about whether the characters live or die, when they insist on acting like normal people in a zombie apocalypse. I was thinking the same thing, when they went back in the bus he had his backed turned to Rick, who had the hatchet in his hand.

So after that I'm supposed to care if Rick gets his feelings hurt.

You dont think the actors are tallented? Did you see that huge snot come out of Rick's nose when he started crying about chopping his kids arm off.

#940 7 years ago

Great show. Now we see why they dragged out the end show of last season and left it as a cliff hanger. I figured it would be "bash" and move on but they made an entire show of it and it worked.

I like the little things. Did you notice as Negan's men were breaking up at the end one of them was taking a Polaroid picture of one of the bashed in heads? Same as Glen saw on the wall of the sleeping quarters in the satellite dish compound.

And Rick watching in the rear view mirror as a walker feeds on the brain puddle was a nice touch about the way things are.

Of course Rick keeping the axe and the end seems to be foreshadowing that he wants to bury it in Negan at some point.

I didn't like that Maggie had so much energy at the end. She was on death's bed before woods scene and after all that she standing up telling everyone what she wants to do.

Did they drag Daryl off separately so he can put more time into his other show?

Well said.

I knew who the two characters were that were going to die too, and also thought that Rick was going to lose a hand.

And while I still say that the death of Glenn and Abraham would have had a bigger impact if they did it during the season finale last year (since we would not have seen it coming) it is amazing how good of a job they did in this episode, even knowing what was coming..

I actually felt sick by the end.

This season has the potential to be the most depressing yet in light of how they've laid the table. How long will they be providing for Negan before getting their revenge?

Last night was a good representation of how TWD is head and shoulders above FTWD. It's hard to compare the two without feeling a little shameful for dissing TWD.

I agree with you on that one. Fear the Walking Dead has very few redeeming qualities..

SPOILER WARNING: In writing this I assume that you are caught up on the TV show. I do also discuss the comics, but try to do so without spoiling anything for non-comic readers.

I read the comic, so I knew what was "supposed to happen". To me it didn't make sense to end on a cliffhanger only to recreate one of the most iconic and most well known moments in the comics. For that reason, I was actually a little surprised when they actually did kill Glenn. As for the rest of Season 7, I'm probably most excited to see how they will work Daryl's kidnapping into the show. How will that affect Dwight? Not sure I've said this here or not, but after what's happened I don't see how Daryl and Dwight can both exist in the same narrative. One of them has to go.

I'm also always interested in pacing. If they go quickly, by the mid-season break they could setup "All Out War". That's roughly 14 issues of comics. We'll probably be able to tell based on the pacing of the next few episodes if that is the plan. If they pacing is slower, then the mid-season break could be cliffhanger at the end of issue 106. If they go that route, my guess is they will mix up the order and introduce Ezekiel and Shiva before the cliffhanger. Their comic first debut was issue 108. Their introduction could have been a good mid-season stopping point, but they basically already introduced them in the trailers, so it would be a little anticlimactic. If not for that, I would have thought this shot could have been the mid-season finale.

I my mind, that shot has a similar level of intrigue, to non-comic readers, as the introduction of Michonne at the end of season 2.

I loved the show last night. Negan is a REALLY good bad guy. I'm looking forward to seeing where they take things this season.

I like FTWD for what it is...filler until the real show starts. I did think they ended season 2 well.

You guys are all crazy I quit about 20 minutes into the episode last night. I deleted it and the season pass. Goodbye walking dead.

I heard what I thought would have been a great twist for the finale and premiere. They should have shown Abraham getting killed in the finale. Everyone would have thought he took Glenn's place. Then surprise them by killing Glenn in the premiere. That would have been the payoff most people expected in the finale and a shock for the premiere.

I think they, the producers, got what they wanted though. Season 6's premiere ratings were down but I expect this season's premiere ratings to take a big jump. I just hope it don't hurt the long term ratings for the show. I'm still so into the characters, especially the ones who have been there since the beginning.
