This movie (good bad ugly) is not somewhat obscure and neither is Outlaw Josey Wales. Not are the monkey movies.

If it was a Clint Eastwood movie that made tons of money, it's probably not "somewhat obscure."

Fans of Kentucky Fried Movie may enjoy the unofficial sequel Amazon Women on the Moon. Enjoyed it when I was 12 not sure how it holds up.

    Quoted from fosaisu:

How about this one then, featuring a young Jeff Bridges.[quoted image]

I'd say thunderbolt and lightfoot qualifies as obscure.

I just saw it for the first time.

Let me just say I was shocked by the amount of homoeroticism in this film.

    Quoted from TheLaw:

I for one was actually impressed it took till page 3 for this to turn into "my favorite movie" thread; so this is progress to me.

Yeah seems like Page 3 always gets ya.

Mad Max eh? Never heard of it! Sounds somewhat obscure.

Hunt for Red October? What's that some kind of independent foreign art film? Maybe a student film. Never heard of Gene Hackman, Sean Connery, or Alec Baldwin before. Well at least it's probably got some nudity.

    Quoted from fosaisu:

Maybe that's why then needed like 30 guns on the poster.

Yeah that was a pretty big throbbing hint.

By the time Jeff Bridges dresses in drag (and pulls it off, frankly) and seduces a horny porno mag reading night watchman right before Clint fires off his massive cannon I'm pretty much convinced.

There's tons of other stuff, like Jeff telling clint "I dig you, man," and that "people are gonna talk" about them. Even Bridge's character's name - Lightfoot - is pretty telling.

Pretty entertaining movie, not anything I expected that's for sure.

Also is there really someone on Pinside who thinks "Meatballs" is "somewhat obscure?"

Come on people! Let's just TRY here.

    Quoted from Reality_Studio:

Cool thread, loving seeing the old movie posters. Nightmares and Terrorvision are two one of my faves!
    [quoted image][quoted image]

Never heard of 'em. Now that's obscure!

I'll skip the Nightmare on Elm Street rip off but Terror Vision looks promising!

    #225 4 years ago
    Quoted from Reality_Studio:

Terror Vision is absurdly cheesy which makes it awesome Nightmares is actually four short stories each one different, kinda like the Creepshow movies, worth watching! I like the video game story with the Bishop of Battle.

I’m quite sure it’s not as good as creepshow but is it better than cats eye?

    Quoted from cottonm4:

    Rear Window
    James Dean
    Grace Kelly
    Hitchcock at his finest.
    [quoted image][quoted image]

Jesus dude. Rear fucking window is NOT obscure.

Nor is Giant. Please get with the program.

What’s next? Rebel without a cause? The Ten Commandments?

    Quoted from TheLaw:

Sorry but chase scene in bullet is maybe the most over rated thing in cinema history, that car is moving like 15mph.
    Any Friedkin chase is better.

One of the cars loses 5 hubcaps during the chase!

    Quoted from Anonymouse:

I want to like this thread but I'm getting too many 90s HBO flashbacks.

    What does HBO stand for?

    "Hey, Beastmaster is on!"

    What does TBS stand for?

    "The Beastmaster Station."

    #318 4 years ago

    The Car is horrible!

    Somewhat obscure for a reason.

    #395 4 years ago
    Quoted from o-din:

    [quoted image]

One of the most famous old horror movies is not obscure!!!

    “Hellllp meeeeeee!”

    #415 4 years ago
    Quoted from mark532011:

    How about rollerball?

I'm gonna go with "not somewhat obscure."

But in general page 9 sees things getting back on track. Not a Best Picture nominee in the bunch!

    #434 4 years ago
    Quoted from cottonm4:

I'm going with "obscure" definitely synonymous with "B" grade low budget movie.

It's not. "Obscure" means people don't know about it.

    Quoted from cottonm4:

Hollywood did not disappoint. And delivered this gem.
    Steve McQueen at his finest.
    [quoted image]

You are going to have to stop man.

    THE FUCKING BLOB?!?!

On which planet is it obscure? The one the Blob came from?

    #435 4 years ago
    Quoted from Hayfarmer:

Has anyone mentioned the ultimate, campy, obscure 70s film ever?[quoted image]

    Rocky Horror?

Yeah, super obscure. Never heard of it.

    #437 4 years ago

OK I came up with some awesome movies that are somewhat obscure. If you can manage to track these down they are well worth your time. Tough to find but worth it:

    Quoted from JayDee:

    [quoted image] (toxic avenger)

Not obscure but awesome so I'll allow it.

    #457 4 years ago
    Quoted from o-din:

    Tom Berenger.
Are the Sniper movies now considered somewhat obscure? Because I can watch the whole marathon in one sitting.

    There's more than one?! Seriously?!

Yeah I'd say fairly obscure. Saw this one at a half price theater when it was fairly new. Can't say I remember a single thing about it except that Tom Berenger was in it.

    #516 4 years ago

Page 11 is where this thread finally found its feet.

With the exception of KISS and Logan's Run (Really dude?! Shame on you!) I haven't heard of any of the turkeys on this page.

Phantom of the Park may be the worst movie I've ever seen, but not sure it counts as it was a TV film.

Highway to Hell looks like a must-see.

    #562 4 years ago
    Quoted from cottonm4:

I lived through the Red Scare and the days of Duck-n-Cover.
Maybe this is old enough to be obscure.
    Dr. Strangelove.
    [quoted image]
Not a movie, but rather a sign of the times we were living in.
    [quoted image]

It's one of the most famous movies of all time so no, it's not old enough to be obscure.

This place has enough price police, I'm enjoying my role as "are you insane that's not an obscure film Police."

    #615 4 years ago
    Quoted from cottonm4:

I don't know, man. There are over 600 posts now and except for the few I have posted, most of these movies I have never heard of. Or I saw a flyer years ago and forgot all about it.
I'm starting to think the only ones that might pass the obscure test are the slashers shown only at the drive ins.

It seems that virtually every movie is "obscure" to you, which is great- you have hundreds and hundreds of "obscure" movies to seek out and watch, and maybe saw a lot of good stuff in this thread you've never heard of.

A good baseline is that if a movie is Oscar-nominated, a cultural touchstone, or made hundreds of millions of dollars (either now or adjusted), it's probably not "obscure." About half of the movies mentioned in this thread would qualify as "not obscure."

I think "classic" is a little more subjective than "obscure."

For me it's a lot easier to list an "obscure" movie I've seen than an "obscure classic." I just saw Black Sunday, and it's pretty terrible. But it sure is obscure!
