I liked Marathon Man as a kid.
I thought it was cool how the early chapters alternated between two entirely different stories, but in a single later chapter you discover the deep relationship when the two stories unexpectedly merge. I was caught off guard and didn't see it coming.
The movie obviously could never physically pull this off. It's literally a textbook example of a why the movie could never be as good as the book.
