Locking a ball for me has always been a very satisfying part of pinball.

Here are my favorites:

TZ - locking pinballs in a gum-ball machine...perfect.

TS - the magnet grabbing the ball and throwing it around the corner

TAF - The Thing hand coming out and grabbing the ball and the thunk the ball makes when going in the lock is hard to beat

IJ - The Idol is perfect theme integration

MET - the hammer lock under the play-field, into the coffin is great...when it works

TOM - the magnet on the trunk

CV - the lock for highwire is cool

GB - going under the play field and the sounds of the ghosts going in the trap and the light on the trap

What would be your list?

The upper bar lock on BBB and the dead World on JD remain favorites

#3 7 years ago

The deadworld lock on Judge Dredd is the best IMO. Not only is it extremely cool, but it releases the balls slowly via the crane, letting you get in a couple aimed shots before chaos begins.

Sneaky ball lock on CV

Flight 2000, love the multi ball launch!

Also love BBB lock.

Airborne ball locks (apron, upper right, and the center shot of the upper ramp).
Radical simple because it uses a kinetic action to prevent you from locking a second ball too soon.
Breakshot ball locks do to them being kinetic.
Pistol Poker since megamode requires a skill shot to go from 2 ball to 3 ball at start.

#8 7 years ago

The deadworld lock is awesome. I forgot about that. I've only seen the BBB lock a few times, but I do remember it being really cool.

Metallica hammer coffin
HS hideouts
WW avoid the storm

ToTAN's genie bottle is cool (I also like the cage ball saves)
Blackwater 100 and it's plunge to stack three balls each turn with the rally-like countdown.
Johnny Mnemonic's Matrix lock was pretty cool too.
And I know Strange Science's lock is more or less ordinary, but I always liked how it was possible for the player to knock balls from the lock newton ball style. I guess the same goes for Heavy Metal Meltdown.

STTNG ball lock in the Borg ship! It shoots the ball at you like a Photon torpedo at multiball start.

I500 turbo loop combo! When you hit that shot, you feel like you accomplished something!

#12 7 years ago

Pin*Bot Circuits Activated

"teleporting" ball on TX-Sector with the sound effects and lights cycling which direction its preceived to be going

Yeah that is cool, and I like the Vector lock that's similar. I think some other games have that one too?

#14 7 years ago

P3-Lexy Lightspeed 8-Ball UFO lock. Coolest thing ever!

TotAN-disappearing back lock...awesome!

Yep, one of the most satisfying shots in pinball because you have to hit the ramp just right, and getting it during Borg MB is even better!

#20 7 years ago

The Shadow's ball lock is pretty cool also.

#21 7 years ago

CSI Skull ball locks are really cool.

#22 7 years ago

Lost world of Jurassic park snagger is pretty cool.

#23 7 years ago

Nothing really special about it, but the lock on Getaway always feels great.

Baywatch Tower

#26 7 years ago

KISS....Gene's head catching the balls then spitting them out over his tongue once you lock all three is pretty cool.

#27 7 years ago

FT is really cool. Always loved that sound but in terms of the shot I love Firepower's 3 ball lock in 3 different locations. Its pretty tough - especially the left orbit lock.

#28 7 years ago

Pinball Magic "Float the ball" elevating ball when you shoot the stage.

#29 7 years ago

Couch lock FTW! Well, visually to see them all sitting there together. No question of how many you are up to.

But the Sanctum for execution. That is one sweet motherlocker.

#30 7 years ago

Not a physical ball lock, but I like the sound on the BSD coffin ball lock
FT is sort of cool how it stores the balls in a fishing reel

#31 7 years ago

The Shadow ball lock never gets old. My favorite!

Beside some of the great one mentioned like JM, TS, etc Ive always like the ball lock on roller games. Its cool how the balls cycle around.

#35 7 years ago

Who could forget the 3rd ball lock on FH, right down Rudy's throat. Everybody laughs when they see it for the first time.

#36 7 years ago

Shadow wall lock never gets old still love it as much as the first time I saw it!

CSI skull lock is great, would be even better re-themed as a SAW game with Billie the Doll replacing the skull.

Like someone said above IJ idol ball lock is perfect theme integration.

T3's TX cannon ball lock is also great love the start of multi ball when she fires the balls directly at you.

Probably one in the minority but Avatar's Link Lock is also simple but just looks great and is a great feeling shot!

Fathom

#38 7 years ago

I too love the Shadow lock. The way the magnet catches the ball dead in mid travel and then flings it through the wall is magical and quite theatrical. The first time people witness that they are astounded and can't wait to do it again. Brilliant!

#39 7 years ago

Probably the sanctum lock on TS. I love creative uses of magnets on pinball machines.

#40 7 years ago

Rudy all the way

#41 7 years ago

ToM - Secret ball lock - "Ohhh NOOOOoooo!!!" as the guy falls down the stairs.

#42 7 years ago

Also love when you make the ball vanish in TOM!

#43 7 years ago

I like FT and F14

#44 7 years ago

I like the locks on Johnny Mnemonic and the way they dump the balls out.

In order of appearance:

1. Firepower: spinner to lock. Great sound, great feel
2. Fathom: it has to cross rollover stars, three fallen drops, and NOT fall into the 1-2-3 lanes, quite a great shot when you make it
3. Sorcerer: The sound of that steel ramp, then the sound of the ball going across, and then coming to an abrupt stop at end is GREAT.
4. Fish Tales (This is a repeat of the Firepower shot) only MR forgot to incorporate the spinner, but added a hurry up -- which is quite neat.

#1 is Firepower... it came first, and it's spinner-rip to lock-thunk... Winning.

?
The Lock is on the right side just to the left or the right orbit. You do not hit a spinner on the way to the lock on FT. Silly Goose

There is a saucer back there that collects awards/starts video mode/collects monster fish tho

Quoted from InfiniteLives:

You do not hit a spinner

Correct. Which makes Firepower even better.

I didn't really like the locks on F14. I just thought they took up way too much of the playfield.

First time I saw MET's hammer lock was pretty cool.
