Street Fighter Alpha 3 is by far my fav.

MvC2 is a great party game for noobs to feel like they can do something

UMK3 is really good too

Those are typically the ones I have in my big blue but I have some other ones I throw in every once in awhile.

#53 2 years ago

A lot of talk about mvc2 being a button masher and good for beginners etc. I can't disagree more.. Mvc2 has some of the most complex, intricate and thoughtout move sets/combos/air combos and special moves for its day. Some of the higher tier characters can be a bit cheap.. but as a whole you aren't going to get very far button mashing/not knowing what you're doing.

#54 2 years ago
Quoted from Chitownpinball:

Very nice. Whats the difference between the sf2 ce with the blue green text and the sf2 ce with the Pink and yellow text?

The one I have is a Z back, I believe the blue cabinet ones are a bit wider and we're produced later. Either way, Champ Edition fo life!!

true, but beginners can just mash buttons against each other and still make things happen and feel like they aren't super shitty. They wont beat a pro but they can feel less fucked over cause more things happen on screen for them imo. They are super intimidated by the more technical games but the bright colors and super moves they can access make them feel better about it. YMMV

edit: also I use the term Mash pretty generously, I mean people know which ones are kick and which ones are punch, but not necessarily know about move sets like quarter circle forward punch, etc... or maybe they only know that move...

I was born fighting on tekken and console fighters.

That said 3d is my go to fighting view. I do love the hand drawn art though. Own "udons Art of cap com. But no arcade games.

I'm really excited about the new tekken coming ps4.

Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 . As well as Ultimate.

Mortal Kombat 1, 2 because I liked the finishing moves, and my favorite character is Johnny Cage.

Street Fighter II Champion and Super

Pit Fighter

Final Fight

I like them because it felt like a nostalgic feeling and brings me back memories of when I was young and at the bowling alley with my dad Wednesday nights. He would bowl while I played the games, and he would give me money for each game and strike he bowled. Good thing my dad was a good bowler, because I ended up loaded with money and gameplay.

Quoted from Ballsofsteel:

when the original mortal kombat came out, all of us kids were stacking quarters on it to beat the one kid that knew all of the combos lol.

I was that kid.

I could play all day for a dollar, but I always gave round two as a mercy round. That way they always got to play a full 3 rounds.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves is one of my favorites! Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet. That and Third Strike are miles ahead of everything else.

I loved Mortal Kombat as a kid, but think it feels clunky by comparison now.

#62 2 years ago

Warrior. Because vector graphics.

Never cared for any of the side-view 2D fighters.

I need to do some work on the monitor for my Neo Geo cab, but once I get it up and running I'd really like to spend some more time with Garou. I've played it, but never seriously, don't really know the ins and outs.

It's got a little bit of a Third Strike feel (not to oversell it.)

I envy you Cali fighting gamers and your community

We're definitely lucky to have an active community. Third Strike is alive and well here, at my local spot it's way more alive than SFV right now. That's just the 3S legacy of SoCal though.

Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat were my games back in college. Most of my Street Fighter experience ended with Super SF2 Turbo which was always my favorite. In the past 10 years with my arcade collecting I have gotten into later games also. Played a little 3rd Strike and it was very cool. I need to get myself a CPS3 setup. I ended up selling my Big Blue restore that had a CPS2 multi in it to fund my Metallica Pin so now I am restoring another Big Blue, 1st Gen this time as a Street Fighter CE. I have a CE, Super SF2, Super SF2T and a few other CPS2 fighters to go in it.

I also had a MK1 Multi and a MK2 that I restored but both were sold due to lack of space in the old house. They will be back eventually. I am going to try and locate a Blast City or two here on the East Coast eventually.

Nice. I'd like to get a high rez candy some day for Naomi, but the Blast City rep with monitors going bad has me wary of them. If I ever find a nice New Net City though ...

I have two official SFII Turbo/Hyper machines. One is dedicated Dynamo 25" and one is 19" non dedicated. You can never have too much of a good thing. Obviously, it's my favorite fighting game. I do consider MKII to be an overall better game but I don't think I will ever own a dedicated MKII.

#69 2 years ago

When Mortal Kombat came out I remember logging on to my local BBS at 9600 baud and downloading the images of each characters with all of their moves listed on the graphic, fun times back then!

One of my favorites because it was different was War Gods.

Well, of course. Why would you continue replacing things after you got it working.

Finally got around today to finish up most of the work on my Big Blue. This one was a labor of love. It was pretty beat up when I got it.
Lots of stripping and repairs to get it where it is now. It's been in an "almost" complete stage for months now so today I decided to finish it up and get it playable.

Got rid of the Soul Calibur marquee and control panel. I also put in new sticks, buttons, and switches. Now it's a proper Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition. I still have to get a bezel and the side art medallions. I currently have Street Fighter 2 CE in it as well as Super SF2, Super SF2 Turbo, and Xmen Vs Street Fighter. Now that I have a work SF Machine it might be time to find another Mortal Kombat to restore and keep this time.

I just saw a Tekken 5 board on eBay a day or two ago. Third Strikes are becoming hard to find!

I was rocking out the new tekken. Amazing. Still my favorite. Ps4 version.

I am thinking about getting that. I was thinking about getting Injustice 2 - and play until MvC Infinity comes out. SFV is starting to get old....

EDIT: I would like to see PowerStone 3 come out (that is more like 1 than 2). Oh, and where is the next version of Soul Calibur? (I though the legend never dies)

#78 2 years ago

Injustice 2 has an amazing story mode, great polish, but the gameplay ... not a fan. The dial-a-combo juggle system and weird animation stiffness is just not appealing, I never feel satisfying interaction while playing. I haven't finished the story yet, but after that I dunno how much I'll play.

If I wanted to get into a game more like that style I'd play more Tekken 7, I did pick that up. I dunno, I messed with training mode for a bit, but I just don't know that I'm big on 3D fighters. I haven't played one since Soul Calibur and I'm not getting hooked. But I need a friend who actually knows Tekken to come over and run some sets with me before I can really make a call, I don't know WTF I'm doing in it yet.

SFV has issues, but I get away from them by going backwards, have Alpha 3 loaded on one of my cabs, been playing that a lot lately, and if not that then Third Strike.

Hmmm.. I am glad you posted that. My son has been dying to get Injustice 2, and I have mixed feelings - glad I'm not the only one. Maybe we will take another look at SFV.

Hey, lots of people like it. And I think it's pretty easy to get into, you can mash and see thing happen, and the execution is pretty forgiving once you get used to it. But it's not for me.

I have probably played X-Men COTA the most, and I enjoy it.

Garou has a port on the Switch now, so I may try that one.

I pulled my tekken 5 off location to work on the crt today and found some embed cards from a biz in the 904 stashed behind the bezel. The cab is in Michigan now.

Disclaimer: I'm not good at these games. Just picked up a Neo Geo 2-slot, so I've been experimenting. Some of these are just based on fun factor, but aren't great fighters per se

Street Fighter II
Killer Instinct
Last Blade
King of Fighters 98
Tekken 2
Clay Fighters 2: Judgment Clay (needs an arcade version if there wasn't one)
King of the Monsters (beat em' up or fighter?)
Primal Rage

#84 2 years ago

I think my favorite nostalgic game is marvel super heros vs street fighter. I just like more then marvel vs Capcom. Although MK2 is always fun also

#85 2 years ago

There's a new Dragonball Z fighting game coming out, and holy shit it looks amazing. Wish I cared about Dragonball Z ...

It's all 3D rendered art, but with clever cel shading, looks better than the original cartoon. Crazy to see how far we've come from little sprites.

#86 2 years ago

Not sure if you guys have checked out Tekken 7 yet, but it's outstanding...I highly recommend.

#87 2 years ago
Quoted from dsmoke1986:

I have it for my PC, they sent Ars two review codes and the reviewer gave me the other and I did some quick testing on my rig as another data point for the review. Just messed about in training mode. I would have bought it anyways just because, but hey, free is nice.

Looks great, but I'm not really a 3D fighter player, so it didn't click with me right away. Not sure yet if I'll spend the time with it to get basic competence or not. Too many new fighters out now, it's nuts! Like right now I have:

Street Fighter V
King of Fighters XIV
Tekken 7
Injustice 2
Guilty Gear Revelator Rev 2

and there's no way I'm not picking up Dragonball FighterZ after seeing the gameplay, even if I don't play it hardcore it looks too cool to not check out, and we'll get more news on Marvel vs Capcom Infinite tonight.

Good time to be a fighting game fan.

Mortal kombat 3

aurich what do you think about mvsc Infinite?

#90 2 years ago

Marvel vs. Capcom, acause it's fun

#91 2 years ago

I think the street fighter series is the best one. I do own a MKII and UMK3 can and have a MK pcb. I need to get my 2 Astro City's back together and I'll be able to play some CPS2, CPS3, Naomi, etc. I think I'll use the other one for SHUMPS. Also need to fix my neo geo MVS-U4 and I'll have my fix for neo games too.

#92 2 years ago
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

aurich what do you think about mvsc Infinite?

I'm not a Marvel player, but I did try and out an alpha build of it at Evo last week. I think it's going to be fun, I'm more interested in learning it than MvsC3, I'll definitely buy and try, see if it's something I stick with.

I like the 2v2 + gem system, it feels like a good approach. The just-frame push block projectile reflecting is neat, the character switching is going to lead to some real madness, I think Marvel players will find all the wild shit they're looking for.

Hurts to not have X-Men on the roster, hope Marvel pulls their head out of their ass on that. The graphics are getting criticized, and I do think the art direction is lacking, but in person playing it I honestly thought it was a non issue.

I'm on my 2nd Killer Instinct cabinet (I'm keeping this one )
I've got a project Primal Rage cabinet and I'll be proud to route it once it's up later this year!
I think I have K O F 98 on neo geo cart, haven't played it/routed it yet though...

For me SF Alpha 2 was always the best because it had the best priority of attacks....god I miss finishing someone with the start button too.
I was super turned off when Capcom vs Marvel started getting big with the massive super attack garbage but that's just me.
King of Fighters always had good stuff as well as Samurai Showdown.
Of course I miss all the good times of MK2/3 on a Saturday night racking up a fat 15+ win streak. Good times.

Of course I've been out of the game so long I don;t even know what Street Fighter V is I could also never adjust to playing on a home controller.

Huh, never heard of it, interesting. I was never a big MK player, but if I had more space (lol) I wouldn't mind a dedicated cab, it's really a game that needs the proper button layout to feel right. And I'd probably run II, so this is interesting.

But ... fitting another cab right now isn't in the cards!
