Last week, I drove past Fat Bernie's on my way to work in the morning. Good to see a new place popping up during Covid. It wasn't the most modern of places, but it was nearby the office and worth checking out. I took this picture at 6am that morning and the doors were wide open with 3 guys working on machines inside.

I couldn't stop in then, but it wasn't until Friday after work a few days later. I pulled up and the place was gone. Not closed, but gone...gone. No signs, No machines, clean windows & new dry wall. It took a minute to realize it was probably some kind of film location. Looking at the picture again, it should've been more obvious that morning. But it was early and I was surprised to see a new pinball place. There are a few clues in the picture Fat Bernie's wasn't a real business, but the equipment cases in front of Grant's photography should have been the biggest giveaway.

They must of had a good budget, considering how fast it popped up and then disappeared just as quick. Also seems they were going for a throw-back 70s or 80s vibe. Please chime-in back here if you see this place appear somewhere down the road, I always miss those things.

Interesting...I wonder what it's going to be used in. The first thing I thought of was Stranger Things, but it looks like that's filmed in Georgia. This might even be for something new that nobody's heard of yet.

The "now legal" label on the window is interesting--that's something you probably would have only seen in the 70s-80s.

And they had a Mars Trek! That’s pretty great. So they rolled out some real machines for this. Perhaps look a local guys with a Mars Trek and any other identifiable games. I know some people on here have rented/used their collections in TV shows and movies.

Good eye with the Mars Trek, here's a better picture with the brightness turned up.

    SOLVED!

This was a filming location for Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming ‘Licorice Pizza’.

    Haha “can I touch them”

I didn’t see that pinball location in the preview though

Where’s Fat Bernie’s??? Disappointed it’s not in the trailer!

Very cool, I forgot about this thread. Nice to see it's a high-quality film and not an indie/student project. That director made one of my all-time favorites 'There Will be Blood'. Thanks for posting, I would have missed this one.

A Filming location inside a filming location? It's mentioned on the clapper board.

I only found this community searching for more information on Fat Bernie’s, and thought I’d leave a quick note since people seemed to be wondering what film or tv show the location was used for. I paid a $5 donation just for the privilege of bringing this old thread back to life, haha!

It's come full circle. Fat Bernie's WILL be a (temporary/pop up) real-life location where you can play pinball, in promotion of the film. Pretty cool, the soundtrack cover art is also in the style of an EM backglass.

That's better than 1/2 the backglass art coming out these days!

    That's awesome!

I see they took 4 Gottlieb King Pin’s and rethemed them into their movie. That’s alright I guess since they made a ton. Kinda weird they did so many. A bit overkill.

Can’t tell what the other 2 are. The black one and the square head one, so frustrating when you just can’t think of the name!

I caught up with this thread just before the Licorice Pizza movie hype machine started cranking. Now I'm hearing about it all over the place. And finally, a movie involving pinball in a good way (I hope) that's also getting Oscar buzz.
