While that is definitely an impressive meter, you have to be careful using meters on these EM machines - there are often a lot of parallel paths that will give you false readings. Often you'll do better with a 4-foot piece of wire that has alligator clips at both ends. This jumper is used to simulate the short of a properly closed switch or bypass entire sections of switches to narrow down the problem area.

The 2 best tools for diagnosing EM problems are the jumper I just described and a light tester - 2 12V lights wired in series that can be hooked up between 2 points in a circuit to indicate the presence of 25V.

Oh okay I found a video of someone using the 2 12v lightbulb tester. That does seem like a good tool to have! I will attempt to build one this weekend. Thanks for your input.

Good, you found a video... here's a link to a post SteveFury made regarding debugging with these bulbs

'course, these days you can buy a digital, auto-ranging multimeter like the BT-39K for $20. That may be less than building a tester with the light bulbs

just to make sure, when you are checking switches, what are you doing? Making sure they open is easy, making sure they close well with good switch "overtravel" can be more finicky ... especially on gottlieb games since they used relays with less blade travel than the other guys.

So I made this today and hooked it up to G-Relay first, it lights up solid when kickout is activated. So that means I can rule out G, right?

I look at travel, contact, quick file, and rub with Qtip w/ Alcohol.

Where exactly on the schematic are you hooking your alligator clips?

Probably not in the right spot. Haha

This blue coil literally fell off this morning. So I took this hole reel contraption off. Took it all the way apart and cleaned it up. Put it back together and it's working well! Even beat my personal best with 80,730. First major fix I've had to do so far. Pretty darn proud of myself.

Can I please get a reference picture for this stepper unit in the back box. I took it apart and cleaned everything up. It wasn't stepping well. It steps great now but my switch gaps are off.

Nevermind the reference. I got everything working. Thanks for all the helpful advice from everyone that has helped me through the last week or so. Turns out my problem with the kickout scoring was a switch on the motor not making contact. The rest of my problems were due to a sticky player unit that I tore down cleaned and rebuilt. The switch stack on the player unit was messed up in the process so I got that all figured out everything is working peachy now. This has been fun as well as educational. Thanks again!
