Starting to fix up the Far Out I got last week. Here is my short list:

- Simple Green the crap out of the cabinet. It has a major case of the yellows!
- Strip/Clean/Wax the PF. The dirt is really ground in to the PF. I've already gone the naptha route with limited results. Tested some Novus 2 in a spot. No change. Dont want to push the issue because I like having paint on the PF.
- Rebuild the toasty left pop bumper. This was the cause of my tech woes. Coil and kit ordered from PBR. I've never done a rebuild with the stopper in the a$$ end of the coil so any tips here would be appreciated.
- Seal the BG (Done). It has some damage. I'm seriously thinking about touching it up via the airbrush method. I bought some colored LED's to see if that would make it passable.
- Replace all bulbs with the 6mm retro LED's from Comet. Ordered.
- Cut out and replace mushroomed shooter and replace. (removed and ordered)
- Replace center pop cap. I broke it. I always break these. Only broke one this time. WINNER!
- Install new coin door lock. I had to drill the old one. Did it at home so I could keep the millions in quarters. Millions = 1 quarter this time.

Sounds like you are making progress. Great game I just went through one.

Don't see why you are goin the LED route though. Would look much better with 44s on the playfield.

I like the look of the retro LED's. They look just like REALLY bright 44's.

Agreed. I have yet to see an LED that matches the color temp of incandescents. They look off to me in EM's.

Good looking game, OP!

Been busy as I got my parts orders yesterday. I rebuilt the pop and luckily before I started to play, I found why the first coil went south. The end of stroke switch had no pad on one of the blades so it was probably stuck on. I had a few spares but nothing exact so I made one. I'm not calling it a hack but maybe hack-ish since it doesn't look like the others.

Lights: So I went with about 90% LED and the rest incandescent. The pops and some of the backbox are the incandescent ones. I'm okay with the look.

Backglass. I've ordered an airbrush kit. I think this is a good BG to touch up. It isn't as bad as I thought. In the meantime, I put some colored LEDs in.

One of my first pins. Always fun to try for all the drop targets and get a double bonus. Steve Young from Pinball Resource told me it was one of his all time favorites when I was ordering parts. That must have been 15 years ago already. Enjoy, nice looking game!

Thanks! It is a fun machine.

So some more questions:

Are the pops either lit or not lit all at once? They don't illuminate individually?

The outside pops both pop when either is hit. Is that right?

The left flipper is about 50% weaker than the right. What are some things I can adjust? What is the magic fix?

Thanks again. Oh and a pic to show how dirty this pig was...

Hi AZDbacker,

I'm working on a restoration of my own and recently tackled this issue with reasonable success. I started getting into it (playfield cleaning) right about here:

...with some magic eraser (scary, I know) discussion and results just a few posts later:

Hope this helps.

I decided to clean up the coin door rust. I use Navy Jelly, rinse, light rub with steel wool and then a coat of wax. Not bad...
