I don't think the Family Guy I bought had been cleaned in years. I went through and did a a full shop job (Novus 1 then Blitz Wax) and replaced all the original rubbers with white Perfect Play silicone. Also installed a plastic protector kit, installing the one under the Stewie mini pinball required it to be removed but it wasn't too much of a pain in the ass.

Does anyone recommend putting mylar down over the "Pinball Inserts" if there's no wear in that area?

Also, I ordered a Whitestar shooter lane protector from Pinball Life. By default it fits Family Guy but doesn't have a hole drilled / cut out for the ball guide just outside of the shooter lane. I was able to drill a hole and file the edges down to get it to work.

As soon as I saw what could happen to the "Pinball" inserts I added a strip of mylar to my game. I bought my game NIB and it doesn't get a ton of play but I didn't want a chipped insert to develop over time.

Thanks, I'll do that!

My guess is the Cliffy you installed isn't the correct one if you have to modify it.

As for the mylar over PINBALL....must do!

#406 3 years ago

Time to give my FGY corner some love...found this cool wall light on eBay:

#407 3 years ago

Hey MK6PIN, I see you have the Drunken Clam topper. Did you ever have any issues with the the clam video ceasing to work? My video failed a couple of years ago and I've been meaning to try and get it back up and running. It's such a cool topper.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

#408 3 years ago

Impossible. The game shipped with 6.0 or 7.0.

Love the topper...got it right after it was announced. Think the first one had some sort of power issues and would go dark on occasion. Fortunately, problem was right out of the box, and they sent a new one. This one has been working for years (why did I just say that!!!...ugh).....

In the club and glad to own this one. I Picked it up from the original owner who received it as a gift and only played it a handful of times. It’s in amazing condition, such a great game and built like a tank. Plastic and scoop protectors are on the way.

Thanks
All protected and also added a clear mini flipper rubber to the beer can to avoid having to constantly replace the decal. Works great so far.

Nice idea on the beer can.

After replacing my decal a couple of times, I trimmed the space off top and bottom and mounted it flush with the top of the can - the ball hits _underneath_ the decal.

#414 3 years ago

I put a piece of mylar on my decal after I replaced it. Never had an issue with wear.

Anyone need any plastics? Replaced all of mine on a recently acquired machine. Some of the old ones are actually pretty nice, some, not so much.

Send a message, otherwise I’ll be throwing them up on eBay as a lot.

edit: I should add, the Brian sling is shot, the Peter one is decent but is cracking from where it mounts, the plastic above the TV scoop is cracking from where it would be behind the scoop, and the Brian one under the ramp is cracked. The rest are overall pretty good, some discoloring from the old incandescent bulbs.

#416 3 years ago

Just got my recently acquired machine back together. Another shameless plug for Junior at owltechpowder.com for the powder coating. He kills it every time!

First time seeing red on this machine, let me know your thoughts! My basement lighting sucks, my apologies.

I’ve been looking for a red that matched that wasn’t just plain red. Do you have a link to something I can look at?

#419 3 years ago

Sorry,no, but I think it would look good if you could find some.

I just joined the club and have a question I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere.

The Evil monkey door over the ramp should be lifted until its triggered by the coil to drop, right? Mine just sort of hangs there and acts like a flap for ramp shots. I can manually lift it up and it catches until I activate the coil from the menu and it drops, but it just hangs there.

I'm guessing there is something broken here, but I can only find a listing for the entire part #500-6590-01-ND and pictures of it aren't helping me figure out what's going on.

#421 3 years ago

This is how mine works: The Evil Monkey Target is lached in the "up" direction when you "score" the shot. It stays in the "up" Position until Evil Monkey is "qualified", then the coil releases the Evil Monkey target and he hangs in the ramp until you "score" him. So only shots to the ramp will relatch him in the up direction, and only "qualified" shots (those where the coil releases him to swing and be scored) will score a hit.

#422 3 years ago

Ok, I was expecting it to be latched up more of the time, but it looks like it depends on the ball to return it latched? If mine is latched it drops as soon as I hit start. I am guessing this is normal?

Yes

Speaking of Evil Monkey - one of Pat Lawlor’s original ideas was to have the Monkey moving around on a track like MB Drac or Mick on a Stick. I told him the Monkey should maybe be hiding in a closet door that opens up to reveal him...anyway, he ended up as the ramp flap lol. I think it’s cool, though, does any other game have a controllable ramp target like that?

I also pitched that there should be a shot just for hitting Meg - that made it in.

#425 3 years ago

On attract mode, my Stewie fidgets about a ton, he is a toddler after all, but is that normal?

Quoted from Rarehero:

"I never thought i'd see meg worth anything" is possibly my fave callout in the game.

Quoted from purplemunkydishw:

Yes. It’s an attract feature! You may be able to turn it off in the settings if it bothers you.

So my Evil Monkey Switch seems to go off way too easy, sometimes just a solenoid fire or nudge seems to score the monkey shot. I was looking at the mech and I can't really work out exactly where or what can be adjusted. Anyone have an idea?

Mike Lorrain produced a Family Guy pin video asking me questions while he plays. It is the pinmame version (which is surprisingly faithful and you can hear the sounds much better). This might be of interest here:

Hey! I am finished colorization for pin2dmd on Family guy. Here is fully colorized game without firmware modifications. Works on pin2dmd v 4.05 or later. Here is preview of colorized game. Who interested in files for real pinball let me know.
PS: Scene with car in video also was fixed.

Have to say this pin has one of the best callouts and sound. Still have this pin in my collection going on 11 years.

Don’t see mine ever leaving my collection. A fun game for sure. Cool call outs. Yellow really makes it pop.

That's exactly what I did. Painted in what was missing and put a mylar strip over all of the letters. Still good 8 years later

I am a new FG owner. My Stewie pinball tiny flipper rubbers are missing . Anyone know where I can find these ? Thanks

I have a rubber O ring set of all sizes from Harbor Freight. I think the whole box was only $12 and it has probably 20 or more of each size you will ever need for garage use etc. The rings in it were the exact size as the mini playfield ones.

My family guy has a green center pop up post , all the ones i have seen are orange. Does anyone else have a green one?

#442 2 years ago

Mys HUO and its Red ,think someone has changed it maybe

#443 2 years ago

Just bought this great game, usual wear around the pinball letters and tv scope as seen in pic.
Previous owner made an attempt to touch up, but not too good. I dont think I can make it better myself.

Should I put a mylar and just leave it? How about making my own decal, I am good at photohop but needs a good scan if anyone have one.
Unfortnutaly I think a decal would stick out if put on that area only.

Whats ur opinions?

Dang - my playfield has never worn, but I’m thinking it might be a good idea to add a Mylar piece where the kickout is.

#445 2 years ago

The Cliffy protects the scoop area on mine, but it bounces off the Cliffy and lands by the B and has started to wear a dirty spot. I have no visible wear on the TV.

My friends Family Guy moved into my house yesterday for a good clean and some repairs

The Stewie figure does not move on this game, are there any known problems with that mech? Anywhere I should look for first?

Check that it's even plugged in. Mine came unplugged because it's noisy and annoying in attract mode.
