Hey guys I got a lead on a Williams F14 and was curious to your thoughts and opinions? I read some comments on the top 100, and they seem split. Anyone have one and if so, is it an enduring game or does it get old quick?

#2 10 years ago

I owned one for a year, and I sold it.

Love the game, but it's not real deep, and while fast, somewhat easy...

I will still play it every time I see it, but I no longer need to own it...

#3 10 years ago

It will make you want to throw it through a wall. Great game, terribly frustrating.

#4 10 years ago

Your current lineup, your wish list, & your past pins all seem to suggest that F-14 is not "up your alley" so to speak. Having said that, it looks like you could use some "fast & simple" in your life.
For me, it's enduring... but I'm biased since I immediately loved this game on location when it came out.

Is there a rule somewhere that says you can't add F-14 to you past pins list if you don't like it?

#5 10 years ago

It's not a game with the usual boring fan layout.

It's not a game when you play for 45 minutes.

It's a game of pure adrenalin.

If you still have razor fast reflexes, it might be your game.

#6 10 years ago

keeper for me,question of taste.incredible light show and sound.the rule is simple and thats why novice love this machine.

#7 10 years ago

I agree w/ vid. Not deep, but purely enjoyable for short periods of time. Killer-fast game. I love it.

#8 10 years ago

The Yagov kicker is one of the best shots in pinball. I used to shoot for it, repeatedly, and on purpose....

#9 10 years ago
Quoted from vid1900:

or if you'd like to develop razor fast reflexes it may be your game. I'm still thrown back at times at how fast that game can be.

#10 10 years ago

Like its been said, super fast and fun. Very challenging 4 ball multiball which is the highlight of this game. I have had it for a year and love it and recommend it if you get it at the right price. Think it would be a nice change of pace in your line up.

#11 10 years ago

Also want to add that it has the best light show in pinball and if you like to add LEDS to a game this game looks killer with them and I am not even that big a fan of LEDS but this game almost demands it.

#12 10 years ago

Do the flasher mod too... The best light show in pinball gets even better!

#13 10 years ago

LED it

Awesome fast game, was my first, and it's still here. 'Nuff said.

maybe cpr can do repro playfield,14000 unit sold.good chance to sell a lot.

#17 10 years ago

I had one for over a year. Just sold it. There were lots of these made, and you can get virtually every part for them, plus many mods if you want too.

Damn that looks sharp with LEDs, you guys have me sold.

#19 10 years ago

I had one, didn't like it.

I mean I liked it, I like all pinball... But I didn't want to keep it.

IMO you should get High Speed

#20 10 years ago

Every pin guy needs to own one for at least a little while...

Good to know, I like your style!
Cheers!

#22 10 years ago

I have had mine for about a year and with leds it has one of the greatest light shows!!!

#23 10 years ago

If you set this pin up right, it will totally kick your rear. I have the playfield up over 8 degrees... the kickback is set off from the get go (have to dare to hit the center targets to light it).

I totally love this game... the art/theme... the call outs... the light show... the rush of 4 ball multiball that hits you like a waterfall. It's like a boxing match.

I've added the diverter sticker, frosted n/g LEDs under the inserts... and then a Red-White-Blue fan look to the GI (back box, no LEDs)

It is a total rush to play... so much fun.

GET ONE!!

Great topic
Was also thinking of getting F14, played it this afternoon in an arcade.
It plays very fast.
The two things I hear over and over are great light show and fast.
Haven't heard much discussion about game play.
The other thing is with so many made will it be a hard sell?
What's the typical price in average shape?

Players condition, $1k....

Game play is a total trip... if you conquer it, crank the settings up.

Not hard to sell if you price it right. You'll see these floating around from 1 -1.7K depending on shape.

#27 10 years ago

It was my first pin and it lasted eight years. Really the only reason I sold mine was because it kept breaking down (that was mine and not typical).

Fast & Fun. Not deep but will get your blood pumping. Not great in a very small collection but could be a keeper in a larger one.

A less costly alternative to HS2?

#28 10 years ago

Just thinking speed how does f14 compare with NASCAR?

#29 10 years ago

Not my cup of tea personally. i wouldn;t mind playing it every once in awHile but would just be taking up space for me.
Much rather have a HS.

Quoted from Madmax541:

Holy shit. My collection is designed to answer this exact question....

F-14 is way more brutal than NASCAR. Once I'm done getting my ass kicked by F-14, I go over to NASCAR so I can dominate for a bit.

#31 10 years ago

I just added an F-14 to my small collection. I love the cheesy-Top-Gun-knock-off-80's soundtrack. If you are an 80s fan or a Top Gun fan, this will make you smile.

As the others have said - awesome light show.

Game play is good, fast and you need good eyes and reflexes at times.

Back-glass is rather dull. Needs LEDs to brighten it up. I used cool white under the blue areas and that really helped.

For sure....Yagov alone.

Is the large plastic on top left of F14 where the ball distribution occurs, is it an after market mod?
I have only seen pics with that plastic here.

If it is where can it be purchased?

The large plastic in the upper left is from the factory, clear. And it covers the diverters. The red sticker that some dudes add is a mod that comes up on E-bay from time to time. I have the sticker but not sure if I am going to install it.

I added LED's to my back box and even added led blinker bulbs on a few spots...doesn't look bad...

#35 10 years ago

A super fast game. A needed change of pace from the other games I own/play.

Its a big pos and the music is horrible. I wouldnt take a mint one for free. So many better sys 11's out there. Dont even bother. One of SR's worst imo. Get hs like someone said.

This is the voice of reason. Or reason's exact opposite. One of the two.

You just would have got sick of it anyway....

i seem to enjoy the simpler ruleset games longer.

#43 10 years ago

Each to his own on this one. To the OP, my advice is buy it. If you tire of it, sell it. I haven't tired of mine and I've logged tons and tons of games on it... each to his own, tho. Each to his own

#44 10 years ago

F-14 was my first SS pinball. I enjoyed every part of it. I've yet to see a pinball which offer so much feedback on extra ball and multi ball. The rules are not that deep but it doesn't it mean it's not hard. Having 3 safe landing during multi ball is not a simple task. My biggest high score was over 7 millions and it was an incredible feeling to reach that mark at the time. I loved it so much that I even designed a custom sticker for it. You can check it out here. ebay.com link: itm

Sorry couldn't help the cheap promo.

Anyhow, I always thought that a deep rule set is not the only way to go with pinball. Audio and visual feedback is almost as important to me and F-14 has plenty of it.

To each his own There is a lot of love on here for this title and the only way for the OP to figure out if he likes it is to go play one and see for himself. Are there better system 11's? Matter of personal opinion. You wouldn't take a minty one for free? OK.

#46 10 years ago

I personally think High Speed isn't that great.

don't hold back now....

#48 10 years ago

Its one of those games where it keeps kicking your butt and you say, all right just one more game, just one more. Then you realize you played it for an hour and you have that one game where you school it and it feels so damn good.

#49 10 years ago
Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

Bought a High Speed for my wife. Said it wasn't as good as she remembered. Just sold it recently. F-14 isn't going anywhere for a long time, just posted my new record on it yesterday.

#50 10 years ago

I recently played both for the first time and I like F-14 way more than High Speed. I love how fast and unpredictable F-14 is and the lights and theme are more fun to me than High Speed. Ultimately you just gotta figure out what is best for you personally, but I'm now a fan of F-14
