I Just noticed that someone in my area is considering trading his Fire for something different and even though i love my F14, ive had it for about 3 years now and might be time to consider a trade. Ive never played Fire but always liked the looks of it. If they were both in equal condition , do you think they are of equal value ? How does the play of Fire match up to F14 ? Im kind of concerned that Fire does not have a pop bumper but interested what others that have played both think ?

#2 8 years ago

Fire is kind of a turd to most. Value is probably close. You will regret it though as f-14 is an addictive game and just can't be beat for the era.

#3 8 years ago

Going to have to agree. F14 is a far superior game to Fire!.

#4 8 years ago

Thanks extraball, ive heard good and bad about Fire, but F14 is just so fast and cool and mine is in such good shape. . Im just kicking tires as i dont play it as much anymore.

#5 8 years ago

hmm, thats 2-0 for F14.

#6 8 years ago

I never seem to get sick of playing F-14 will always be a keeper in my collection.

#7 8 years ago

I haven't had much time on F14, but Fire! Is pretty difficult too if you set it up hard. However, you will see all that it has to offer in less than 50 games. I've had it for about 6 months and it's fun, but I think I would have to give F14 the nod too, even though I haven't played that one as much.

#8 8 years ago

I think it really just depends on type of game you like to play and size of your collection. Fire has no pop bumpers and is basically shooting at targets to put out fires. Kind of like playing a baseball machine - not game play but just trying to make shots without the randomness of pop bumpers.

In a larger collection games like Fire, Orbitor, Slugfest, etc. sort of round things out but in a smaller collection I would pick F-14 over Fire any day of the week.

#9 8 years ago

Fire is a significantly better game. I'd jump at the chance. But be sure the fire is in good shape.

#10 8 years ago

F14 is way more fun.

See if the guy wants to trade for 3 months.

#11 8 years ago

Thanks guys. Keep em coming. I'm really into Steve Ritchie flow type games but wondering if I should change it up a bit but worried I would be bored with Fire in a 3-4 pin lineup. Do you think it would be a good mix if I could buy it instead of trading so I have my Getaway and F14 Ritchie love along with the Fire or is there better specific shot games at that price range?

Thanks Vid. You opinion is always soo valued. I might just ask him. I reached out to him about a possible trade or to just buy the Fire outright but haven't heard back yet. He might not even be interested in my F14 and he sure as hell is not getting my beloved Getaway. Lol.

F-14 is one of a short list of games I regret selling. I've been playing it for almost 30 years and still want more.

#14 8 years ago

Fire is a terrible game. One of the worst.

There's many reasons why they called this one "firewood" at Williams.

It's linear and has no flow, every shot comes back to flippers and is way too easy. For a system 11 the sound, art, and speech are all atrocious. If anybody can tell me what the fireman is saying (I swear it's "I'm taking a crap!!!") I'll buy you a coke.

F14 Is great.

Totally unfair to compare these games. A crime really.

I hear ya extraball. Even though I sometimes tire of it, if I leave it for a bit I always come back loving it?!! When Yagoff antagonizes you at the end with "NOW YOU DIE"!! At the end of of game it always brings you back!! Lol. Does Fire ever inflame (cool pun huh? Lol) players like that? I'm curious?

#16 8 years ago

Food for thought crazylevi. Your making me think.

#17 8 years ago

Based on what I've heard so far I don't think a trade is in the cards. Even though I'm considering a trade of my F14 I might just turn it up to a more difficult setting. I rolled it on normal settings but 5 ball (yeah I know lol) but got 11 million on it. but I just love that damn thing. Just always wonder if there might be something that will peak my interest in a trade.

#18 8 years ago

I just went the other way. I traded a documented HOU Fire! for an F14 plus a little cash.

#19 8 years ago

F14 should never be on 5-ball, especially considering how easy it is to get an EB. No wonder you are sick of it.

#20 8 years ago

I've owned both games and much prefer F-14, I would consider another F-14 but never another Fire. If it was me and I was ready to trade F-14 I would look to trade it for something else that would be more fun. Fire is unique and interesting for a bit but as others have said it won't keep your interest very long.

Sounds like I have my answer. .

I bought hte Fire! knowing that I was going to trade it for the F14. I wanted the F14.

Funny. I contacted the same guy about trading for my F-14 too. But after thinking about it F-14 is a better game so I decided not to pursue it further.

+ my F-14 has new insert decals. Sticker mod. Leds. Target decals. DK 12v mod led strip kit. New bats. New flipper mechs. And a toy f14 plane mod I made.

So that made the decision easier for me too.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I have both and like both. Fire has some great artwork and is a different kind of game. I am doing a full restore on my fire and adding some custom features and changing up some of the look. I don't plan on selling it but I have a larger collection as well. I'm a pilot so F14 will never leave.

#26 8 years ago

The only thing Fire has going for it are those badass flame inserts on the house.

The only thing F14 has going for it is everything.

#27 8 years ago

I guess I'm the odd ball.... I don't care for f14 but love my fire....it's a tough game and I think that's why I like it but I also have it set the way I like it

#28 8 years ago

Fire! Can be a fun competition game. You can set it up very hard (tight tilt, lanes wide open, small post rubbers, set the ladder timer to like 3 secs on quick ball lock, and also reduce the hydrant plunger time). I've had some heated battles with my buddies playing for money on that game. However you can do this on F14 too, and the gameplay has more to it. Hard for me to pick Fire! over F14. Artwork may be the only thing I prefer Fire!

#29 8 years ago

Fire is a fun game, if it is in a larger collection. The concept of putting out fires (different target banks get set on fire, and you need to hit them to put them out quickly) is fun. The center jump ramp is a satisfying shot, when you get the ramp raised.

#30 8 years ago

Another vote for F14. I can't imagine giving mine up for a Fire and mine is a beater. Fire just doesn't do anything for me.

#31 8 years ago

I love my Fire! for it's theme alone. F14 feels too much like a lot of other titles in the same era (high speed, space station) in that you have wireforms locking balls, though the upper flippers do differentiate it.

#32 8 years ago

I am apparently one of the few who really like Fire! too. You have to set it up ultra tough, but if you do it's a nasty little game in it's own right. Linear? Sure, but not crazy more than most of the games from the same era.

Is it worth trading an F14 for? If you're sick of the F14, the value is about the same and maybe even a bit in your favor (Fire! tends to be collected by people like Firemen who don't own other pinball machines). You could get it, play it for a bit and pass it on.

Having said that, I own an F14 and enjoy playing Fire! when I see them at other people's houses.

Another vote for that. I like temporary trades... with people I trust.

#34 8 years ago

I haven't put significant time on fire so I can't really give a opinion on lastability, but I find it to be fun. The theme is complete also in that I love the rag time music it's playing and the bell on top is awesome. The flame effect in the playfied is so bad ass. I don't know that it compares to F-14 though - which is an adrenaline fest. Like all system 11 machines, they both have shallow rule sets which leads to wash rinse repeat gameplay. I don't think you'd go wrong with either. I look at it this way - there's no reason to hold onto a game you're not playing. A new game is a new game and you'll probably play the dickens out of it when you get it because it's still fresh vs the F14 that's sittting collecting dust.

+1

I can get tired of any game I play long enough, and got bored with F-14 so traded it away. I figure they made so many of them if I was really dying to own one again I could find one. So many games, so little time on this earth
