Oh yeah, finally a club I can be in!

I've restored my F-14, and I'm really proud of how it turned out.

The thread is here: http://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/f-14-restoration

If anyone needs pictures of an F-14 for reference in tearing theirs down or repairing it, I've got all my reference photos from my restoration online. I wanted to make sure I remembered how to put it back together so I took nearly 1500 photos.

Hope it helps someone!

Quoted from Pinball_Nate:

I agree, the upper pf is dark - anyone ever stick a spotlight up there - how did you wire the led's in????

I ended up using those 5 led supers as GI on my F-14 in a few of the upper playfield spots where it wouldn't blind the player. I'm anxious to try those new Ultra Opti Maximum Light Explosion of Zeus bulbs, especially if they are no-flicker. They seem to throw a ton of freaking light.

Check this thread out, they aren't for sale quite yet, but will be soon according to this thread.

Quoted from Pinball_Nate:

Also, anyone tried the flasher LED's in this game for the backbox?

Yes, my entire game is LED. The flashers in the backbox look good, I'm even thinking about trying colored flashers back there, yellow or orange, to enhance the "explosion" effect.

Quoted from LongJohns:

In the back box I used some blues in the bottom right to highlight the water

Ohh, I hadn't thought of that! Good idea!

Quoted from Ghoen:

Is there every any problems with light from the beacons shining on the back glass? In the process of reproducing the entire beacon mechanism and was wondering if it was worth my time to completely cover the beacon holes in the top of the backbox with the mount base?

Yes, the light does shine down on the translite. I haven't bothered to put anything to block it though.

Do you want me to take a pic of what it looks like? (I can try, im a terrible photographer normally, but throw darkness in, and I might as well be drawing a pic of it).

Quoted from Pac-Fan:

Dammit man, I'm a computer software engineer not thermodynamic engineer

Fixed it to be more bones-ish.

Quoted from SPeD66:

Scored 15,812,690 tonight. Good enough for 2nd place on pinside's F-14 high scores it seems.
My 2nd time rolling over the display in my last dozen attempts. Normal outlanes, normal tilt, default settings with 3 balls. 4th high score on my machine is now at 9.1 million.
I think it's time to set this game up to tournament standards?
I should probably try to film my next high score game too, so that I have some undeniable proof.
Does nobody else here do bank shots off of the center standup targets?

Damn man. I can't even get close to that.

HOOKED, I'll have my restored one at SFGE. Can you post a video of your scratchy sound?

#354 5 years ago

That's not the yellow disconnected wire right next to it?

I might be saying goodbye to my F-14 this weekend at SFGE. I have this itching feeling that I'm going to regret it.

Quoted from SPeD66:

In Yagov voice: NO... NO... NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I know.... I'm actually more nervous than anything about people looking at my work. I made some decisions like leaving off some of the clear plastic pieces because I think it looks better. I have all of them, brand new, just didnt like the way they looked. Worried how people will react to stuff like that. Also, the LEDs. It's really bright.

F-14 is sold. I'm leaving this club and joining the Starship Troopers club.

Quoted from graystarsfan1:

Whoever got this F14 from Wolfmarsh just got an amazing machine. That thing is sooooo beautiful.

It was another pinsider, but I'll let him say it if he wants to.

I knew it was going to a guy who would be able to appreciate it, so I feel like in the end I let it go for a pretty good number. It's time for someone else to enjoy her company.

#422 5 years ago

It gets inserted from the inside. The lip will be inside the game.

#430 5 years ago

Mine had that as well, it was probably for some kind of ball hang ups or something.

I didn't bother putting that on the new flipper I installed, it's not been a problem.

Quoted from SPeD66:

Before you know it, you'll be rolling the displays back to zero & beyond.

My F-14 never was generous enough to let me score that high, or maybe I'm a terrible player...

#552 5 years ago
Quoted from SPeD66:

I'm guessing the latter?
JK bro! I hope we can play an F-14 together someday & see what's what. Maybe my particular game isn't fast enough? I do have a 6.5 degree angle.

It's definitely the latter, lol. I'm not a very good player, I just enjoy it.

I'll be at the December auction if you'll be able to make it.

Most of your bonus comes from the upper playfield orbit.

#570 5 years ago
Quoted from wayout440:

Just got home. Found out that the orbit doesn't advance it all. Inlanes, Outlanes, and the tomcat targets advance it.

Hahaha, whooops.

I'm back in the club!!!! Thanks to doodlesdaddy for being willing to sell me his.

It only shows that font for the best players. You gotta play better to see that.
