Hi guys
I purchased my very first pinball last September and I just finished a restoration project! Yippee!!IMG_1904.JPGIMG_1906.JPGIMG_1907.JPG

Pictures of my restoring works

I marked the green circles where I removed the lifted inserts and reinstalled with epoxy

I done painting red and black lines around inserts with a fine brush, I uses Createx.
Touch-up on two pilots done.

I made a box with cheap 1/2 OSB Sheathing....I do not want to remove all parts under playfield...too much work!!!

I uses PPG Shopline 661 for clearcoats

I uses a laser printed water slide decals, can't feel it after clearcoats!

#1056 4 years ago

Thanks Soapman

The cabinet was not bad but I do want to fix a nice museum quality...
Some outer layer plywood broke off on edges, couple of holes for bar lock on door, dents, scratches, paint peeled off and damages from legs...

Pictures of my cabinet works...
bondo and primered....
I'm saving the original artworks but not the background and stripes
Also I saved the original back cabinet warning note and serial # stickers
I couldn't save the front artwork, I made one with tracing papers and friskets
I sprayed black first, then the stripes with createx paints and masking tapes
I sprayed 3 clearcoats with semi gloss Varathane Polyurethane

Thanks Quid!
Bought the new plastic set from CPR. The plastic protector set is from Marco's.

See the old plastic snapped off...too narrow!!

Before I put new one, I added 2 standoffs with 6-32 threads on both ends...just make sure the new one isn't going to break again in the future!

Thank you Kilmarnock ...... not bad for my first time pinball project...
Well, I'm talented, good with my hands at painting skills.
Before I do a first time pinball restoration, I spent many hours thinking of what kind of paints to use...
After Google searches, I chooses Vid's famous topic "vids-guide-to-ultimate-playfield-restoration" because he's a pro and I trust him and I don't like screw ups!
He should be Pinside's " Man of the Decade"

I uses Createx paints for touch up on playfield and some on cabinet with fine brushes and Badger Patriot 105 Airbrush.
I ordered 1 quart of 661 Clear paint and 2x 8oz of harder from out of state on phone, couldn't find one in California, also couldn't find naphtha here, I ordered it from amazon.com.
2 part automotive clear is TOXIC and DANGEROUS!!!!
Use safety equipments to protect your health.
I done six thin clear coats (2 before water slide decals and 4 after decals) no flaws!! woot!!
(40ml of 661 paint and 20ml of harder...60ml total for each coat)

P.S. Kilmarnock, It's too cold to do clearcoats outdoor in Alaska...lol
better look for an indoor spray booth...

Yagov kick is making me very nervous....too fast!!
I don't like hammer marks on drain area finishes.... lol
Any suggests to lower the strength? change coils for a weaker?

#1075 4 years ago
Quoted from jeffpm:

Have you tried lowering the strength in the settings? It's adjustment #45. 01 is weak kick and 03 is weak kick with flight insurance.
I believe the default setting is 03, but I guess it's worth checking.

I'm not sure what you mean..... I'm scratching my head....

There's no Yagov Kicker in my list of adjustments....what the hell?

#1082 4 years ago

Mine is L-4....hmmmmm

I found a topic....

If I get a L-1 rom to install and sets it to slowest....probably still too fast.
Maybe do a coil custom work?

Quoted from GixerEd1:

LEDs for the playfield are cool, but I don't actually like the "sharpness" of the leds in the backbox. They look too localized and don't light up enough around the rest of the backglass. Maybe use leds with diffusers or frosted leds for more dispersive or wider lighting??

Get some with concave lens from Pinball Life.....170 degrees wide angle!!

#1290 4 years ago

Sure is it...little brighter in center.
I have frosty "warm white" LED bulbs all over the playfield except the inserts...
Anyway, I uses Ablaze's concave for backglass...I don't want too bright and reflects onto the playfield glass in darker room. I installed a tinted film behind the speaker panel for display.
Cointaker's Premium 2 LED for my inserts

Lucky pinsider "shirkle" got it

Quoted from shirkle:

I got this one tonight. Actually in really nice shape, just dirty and the usually flaking inserts of most F-14s. Hardly any playfield wear and was NOT factory mylared except in the top half of the field near the pop bumper.
It is not working, as stated. The coil fires, but it's not starting a game. I'll look into a little bit tomorrow evening.

Mine is yellow not orange.
