Quoted from Vahalas:

Did Outside Edge really use the weird rounded “Flight Insurance” lettering on the insert? My original has both words horizontal

There’s a lot of bizarre problems with the insert lettering. I put mine back in the box till I decide how much it bugs me. I’ll probably just restore my original and sell this. I have four other machines that need hardtops but this really soured me on them.

So, Pinsound announced Sys11 stuff in the works for 2022. If that is going to be back to F14, ther will be Top Gun soundtrack cuts getting added on mine for sure. Danger Zone? Plus others, so many things could make it in!

That will be amazing

Quoted from desertT1:

Can somebody explain to me how the snubber board system works? I am not getting any coils, and maybe no flashers as well, on the coils that are tied to the various snubber boards. I have 35V on the 28V and DRV tabs on the snubber boards, but 0V on the coils and the flashers. I don’t know if that’s normal, as I do have voltage on coils like slings.
When I start a game the ball kicks into the shooter lane and a plunge triggers the diverter, it goes to the right center kickout/lock, and then it awards bonus and goes to ball 2. If I take a ball and roll it up into the upper right upkicker it doesn’t fire. With the sound all the way off I can hear the relay activate each time it tries, and it then awards me a switch hit to that shot and alternates that.

The upper loop shots on my F-14 feel bad, really hard to hit. Anyone have tips for how to tune this game to play well? Going to shop it soon and want to dial it in.

Anyone powder coat their wireforms? Maybe gloss black. What do you think? Ive seen red but think its too much.

Squeaky beacons… anyone know how to fix? I can’t tell what exactly squeaks.

Quoted from Gorgar666:

My Launcher lane wire form weld is broke. Anywhere to buy another?

There have been several F14 wire ramps on eBay recently

Quoted from GRUMPY:

Try a drop of CLP on each reflector shaft bushing.

Where has this stuff been all my life? Curious what else it is good for

Quoted from ita47:

How well does the CPR plastics set match the Outside Edge HardTop for F-14? Is Outside Edge going to be making plastic sets anytime soon?

I wish they would, OE has been very good to deal with. I wish they’d make future spa plastics!!!

Quoted from trueno92:

How many of you guys would be interested in an alternate translite that was more themed with TOP GUN queues?

It would have to be amazing or I wouldn't bother.

Listen to this dude. Treat him like Rufus on Bill and Ted. He knows what he is talking about.

So be excellent to each other?

Quoted from HydrogenHuman:

Anyone know where I can find these spacers for the beacon motor assembly? Mine is completely missing them. I have an old prototype version similar to the picture from Joe's Classic Video Games.
[quoted image]

I do not, but in a pinch I would try some aluminum tubing. You can get it at the local Ace hardware or on Amazon in various sizes.

Quoted from KSUWildcatFan:

Round 2 for me with F-14. This one is a much nicer starting point than my last one. Knocked out all the features LEDs this morning and cleaned/magic-erased/polished/waxed the lower 1/4 this afternoon. The middle area should go much faster in some ways because I won't be spending as much time working out ball swirls/marks on exposed wood. Then again, I'll be removing wire forms and all the crap on the sides so... maybe a wash.
I was amazed how light a coating of dust there was under the apron. With just a light wipe from a paper towel it was already shiny.
I'd still love to pull the mylar and level inserts...but I'm not brave enough to try. Maybe someday.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I left my mylar on, but this game plays really badly with any raised inserts. I owned the game ten years and finally tore it down and pulled the Mylar. Currently in the queue to be restored. I’ll be replacing all inserts.

Quoted from TheClownpuncher:

Don't want to completely resurrect a thread from the dead but when researching weak pop and slings I came across this thread where trueno92 added a .33 uF 50v capacitor to the 22 uF 25v capacitor already on the switch for improved pop.
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/f14-tomcat-owners-club-fans-also-welcome/page/61#post-4159731
Just wondering if there has been any updates or "better ideas" before I replace my 22's and add .33's. (Like using a 22 uF 50v vice a 25v or bumping the capacitor up to a bigger cap vice the combination)
My slings and pop are very weak, almost slow motion when they pop and I'm just looking to punch it up.

Surprised no response. Can’t help you with the caps, but if those coils are weak I’d suspect a special solenoid power issue. Did you measure voltage? Hopefully it’s something simple like a bad header, solder joint, etc.

Quoted from codered9394:

I'm looking for some teardown photos. All the ones I took are gone and need some to assemble a game. Thanks

I have some, I’ll have to find them but I’m working on an F-14 now anyway. Maybe PM me so I don’t forget.

My game is apart so if you have questions let me know.

Pulled all snubber boards during restore. Resistors cooked as usual. Three boards have NO resistors installed. Is that normal? I don’t remember. Guess it’s fine since the game worked, just curious.

Quoted from GRUMPY:

If you look closely you will see that someone has removed the resistors at some point. Get some 2 watt flame proof resistors and replace them all. They will last a life time.

I have some of these from Tayda

https://www.taydaelectronics.com/10-x-resistor-150-ohm-1w-1-metal-film-pkg-of-10.html

I’ll look for flame proof 2w, thanks!

Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

I've got a game I'm working on and should also replace the resistors.
Have you got a link to the exact one I'd need?
Thanks!

Hi Bryan, this is the part I ordered...

Does anyone know the correct alignment for the two center white standup targets? My playfield was not dimpled for these and I see a lot of variation in pictures.

Should the outer edge of the target stick beyond the yellow post behind it?

Here’s some examples of variation. Often it seems they are not spaced symmetrically.

Quoted from GRUMPY:

These two targets get abused a lot. Often they are bent or twisted out of shape. I would align them like the first pic you posted.

Excellent thank you very much!
