Got an F14 about a month ago, woot! The wife and I have been enjoying it immensely . However, pretty regularly the ball gets stuck in the rescue lane before draining, so you have to wobble the machine back and forth to get it to finally drain. I plan to take a closer look this weekend to see if there's a quick fix, but thought I'd see if anyone else had experienced this issue.

#4222 4 years ago

Right in that little cut out. The rescue works as expected when lit during game play.

Oh, believe me, we've taken advantage of that! During multiball when the ball gets stuck and we light the rescue... it'll be just enough on the switch to kick it back up

@bladefury I’m swooning over here! That’s some great work you’re doin’

#4237 4 years ago

GRUMPY I’m thinking it’s an apron issue. It covers just a bit of the copyright notice.

But after putting the apron back haven’t experienced the issue again

So in my haste to get my EOS switch swapped out the iron rested against the capacitor... will this be an immediate issue that needs to be addressed, or can some playing take place while waiting for the part to arrive?

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking/hoping - just wanted some confirmation from folks smarter than me.

Excited to get these flippers up and running again on this game

KSUWildcatFan I found a bent nail holding one of mine together the other day. What did you end up using to secure them?

#4294 4 years ago

Literally just went and did that... thanks

My project for this morning was getting the displays back nice and snug.

I’m curious to see what you end up doing with your right gate switch. I had to do some adjusting of mine as it wasn’t registering during play. I was terrified I was going to snap it and end up in the same situation... thankfully it didn’t. Just some dirty contacts and the gap was way too open. Operating as it should now.

Btw, where’d you get those targets? Wife walked by and said... “you should do that”

I seem to be having an intermittent issue with the pop bumper. It seems to work well when the ball comes at it with some force, but when it lightly touches the bumper, it doesn't respond. Some days it seems more responsive than others. Any thoughts on where to even begin looking? I plan to go through the tests, but the intermittent-ness of it has me thinking the tests aren't going to bring anything up.

Possibly similar to the last post bowtech made on page 89?

Left flipper return, Right flipper return, and Right Kicker ("sling") doesn't register any points. Left Drain "Rescue" kickback is weak (Though this may not be related). I went through the switch and edge tests and everything registers (57, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63) except for the Right Kicker ("sling") 58. My first thought is to replace the Right kicker switch since it's not registering. I can't imagine that would affect the others ability to register points though. Any thoughts?

#4587 3 years ago

Welp, I think I found two of my issues. Rescue kickback has a loose wire and the right bumper diode(?) for the scoring switch is broken.

So I’ve been noodling how to tackle the front of this cab. A previous owner filled the holes.

Basically I’ve seen two options - drill out the filler and plug with carriage bolts or sand down and paint. It does look like some touch up would be needed either way. The rest of it is in fairly decent shape so I don’t think this is a sand down to the wood type project... thoughts?

Just put LEDs in my machine and do they rock!

I also converted my flashers to LED via Comet's LED flashers. I removed the ground to all of the boards as I've seen recommended on here. I was going through the diagnostics for the Solenoid tests and when testing flasher 1, 2, and 3, all of them (1, 2, 3) blink in unison no matter which one of the flashers is tested. Is this the expected result with the LED flashers?

#4608 3 years ago

Genius! That did it. Should any other molex connectors be removed? Currently, that's the only one I've done

Also, if you have a moment would you mind explaining why that works?

#4610 3 years ago

Thanks for the explanation! Here are the photos of the board. These are the only ones I have not yet put LED flashers in

So looking beneath the playfield the flashers down by the flippers are wired like this. Looking at your image @grumpy, these appear to be wired backwards?

Also not entirely sure how to check for a short in the board. Put my multimeter to check for continuity and was able to get the “beep” on what I checked

#4615 3 years ago

Ok there’s two that need that need switching. Also confirming I’m reading center correctly...

Checked the board with all lamps removed and and got 0L (infinity?) on the multimeter

GRUMPY thank you very much for all your help! It looks like the lights are now behaving as they should

I’ve read that one a few times. Slowly building up the courage to take it on

When you find out, let me know. Looks like someone filled mine w/ bondo or some sort of patch.

Charles_Kline Did you ever find a solution for your speaker grills? I have a similar problem, though mine looks like someone laid a soldering iron on it and it melted a bit. I was thinking of making me own somehow but never got around to it.

#5278 1 year ago

Just put in a new xpin display and it's working great. In my original display, player #3 went out and didn't have the time to really troubleshoot the issue. That being said are old semi-working displays sellable, tradeable, usable? I'd hate to just get rid of it if it still has some life or use to it ... maybe that's just the hoarder in me coming out
