Quoted from statictrance:

All flashers or some flashers? If it's a few I'd bet a resistor came loose. If it's all, check the fuse.

All playfield flashers are working. It’s just the three rotating topper strobes that aren’t working.

#4902 40 days ago

Check the snubber board in the backbox - might be a wire loose. Confirm the transistor on the board is working in test, etc etc...

#4903 40 days ago
Quoted from Blitzburgh99:

Moved the game from my buddy’s place. The strobes aren’t working now. I looked at the wiring and I am not seeing anything loose. Anyone have suggestions on what may have happened between point A and point B?

Beacons? Maybe the rubber belt fell off?

There is a fuse for just those lights and motor in the back box.

Fuse “looks” good. What size fuse should it be? There’s a 4 amp fuse and the strobes worked before I moved it. So I’m thinking it’s not the fuse.

Rubber belts are all in place and in tact.

Wires are all secure. I need to test the transistor. Any good tutorials specific to the F14 snubber board out there?

#4906 37 days ago

Pull the fuse out and test it with a meter. Especially on a slow blow, 'looks' good isn't always good.

Determine which transistor it is and ground out the tab. Can also figure which line on the snubber board is connected to transistor and ground that to test as well.

That would be Q6.

Finally got back to working on the project F14 in my garage. Inkochnito was right, one of the diverter coils was missing the diode. Rookie mistake, I cut it off to test it and forgot to replace it. Easy to miss as it was on the underneath side.

This F14 is now operating properly and I can move on to the little things. By chance does anyone know the size of the E clip on the shooter rod?

My sirens weren't working, so I didnt use my machine for like a month, then turned it on and voila.. started working again.. weird.
Great game though, I love it, I love that "locked on" call out.

There is a 3-pin molex quick connect in the harness between the lower cabinet and the head. Mine has pulled loose after transporting.

I’d like to thank the following for their troubleshooting advice on non-working beacons:
/statictrance
/gorgar666
/grumpy
/inkochnito
/oneangrymo
/cletus

.....and the winner is.... cletus!

I checked everything closely then finally pulled up the playfield and voila! Two connectors hanging loose. Plugged them in and now game is back to fully functioning.

Thank you all! Time to play some F-14!!!

Need more help...strobes working, but now the top end of the coils is out. Both slings, the pop bumper, and the divertor coils. None are working. I’ve checked all connections under the playfield and everything appears tightly connected. Does anyone know which fuse might need looked at? Any other thoughts are appreciated!

If your playfield is lifted up, there is a fuse for those coils near the bottom right side(mounted under the playfield) . If I recall correctly it's a red wire with white ticks.

That's where I would look first.

Also, in case you aren't aware, you might check and make sure all of those coils are okay and the plunger is moving freely. A blown fuse is often a sign of a coil that has locked on. Or sometimes the fuse was just old or undersized.

Fuse pulled and tested good.

Check F4 on the power supply board. Should be a 4A slow blow.

Does anyone know the correct length of the rescue plunger? I had the incorrect one and replaced with another incorrect one..
The part # does not come up..

Could this be it? I saw another post that referenced the A-11041-1 Rescue kickback. I ended up tracking down another post in this thread that said the plunger was used on another game and the part number is A-6306-2.
I put that into the googles and this came up at marco.

Joining the ranks lol.... finally got a decent f-14 for my collection. I think it’s an early one.... how do I tell? I know the middle beacon is clear but it’s too nice to be original, I think LOL.

This was the infamous “dropped on the floor at pinfest” f14. Glued the cabinet back together and did a few little things to it. New playfield glass, legs, balls, and fuses for the bridge rectifiers.

94501 was pretty early. I see you have flashers directly behind the upper tomcat targets. Those were later removed because they were shorting out against the metal switch bracket. If you haven't already you need to add some insulation so it doesnt short in the future.

Looks like you also have the early displays fit for flasher bulbs. Im betting you probably have all sockets underneath too as the lamp boards were added later in the run.

Cool history.

Here’s an interesting one. My F14 is awarding bonus and going to the next ball when you plunge into a kickout. It always starts in the one on the far right side, right? Well these are going to the left (say on ball 1) and then right (on ball 2) kick outs that are in the center of the playfield.

Did you check fuses? I believe that happens when fuse F4(?) on the power supply board goes bad

Fuse is good. If it diverts to the wrong lock does it phantom drain? Maybe it’s my diverter that sends it to the far right lock and then would kick into play.

I'm pretty sure the correct behavior is for it to plunge to the centers and kickout when no locks are lit. Once you light lock it should go to to the far right for lock one, then divert to the two center ones alternating and kicking out a ball that's locked there when necessary until all the locks are lit. My guess is you have a problem with one of the switches on the ramp that trigger the diverter.

Missing my old F-14 tomcat. If anyone has an old playfield that they’re not using, I’d be open to buying it to use as wall art.

Thanks

Just wanna say that gianfri from pinballsolutions.eu is the best when it comes to quality products and fast shipping.
All displays on my F14 project were dead, so on Sunday at 14.00 I ordered a new set - and on Tuesday at 12.00 it was delivered !
Looks great, now I just have to wait for the playfield to come back from clearcoating

Some things have changed for me so if anyone is looking for a Buthumburg (sp?) reproduction playfield for their F14 please shoot me a PM as I won't be installing mine anymore.
