Did my first complete flipper build on a TomCat (EOS and everything)! Such an epic game with a fantastic light show and sound track The beacons going off during multiball makes you feel like a hero

I finished all mine per vid's guide. All converted to fliptronic style. Haven't tried them out yet as playfield is awaiting cabinet restoration now. Won't be long.

#2403 2 years ago

FYI,
I have the F-14 playfield scans Vid gave me. If you want them, PM me your email. They need touching up in photoshop but they are pretty good condition.

In my experience, the "Fliptronic" conversion Vid outlines, while certainly a "cleaner" setup (springs can't scratch the plunger), its effect on flipper action isn't really so noticeable. It's odd that Vid calls it Fliptronic rather than simply putting it in terms of updating the springs, as Fliptronic was a significant departure from the way flippers had been designed previously. That said, rebuilt flippers are pretty much always a good idea on a game you take in unless you know for *certain* that they've been rebuilt correctly by the previous owner. Vid's guide to rebuilds is an awesome asset here on Pinside.

I checked it out. And now am wondering how the motor goes on as mine was missing and have a Marco replacement. Could someone post a pic of the assembly of this. As I am cornfused!

IMG_0083 (resized).JPG

#2409 2 years ago

Best photo I have on my phone. There are metal standoffs/sleeves and long screws mounting the motor. The screws thread up into the plate. 3 on the original, only 2 on the replacement motors from Marco.

IMG_20170202_095135_814 (resized).jpg

#2410 2 years ago

You're missing 2 pulleys on the motor. Put a metal washer between the top pulley and plate before mounting. The belts need to go thru the mount points so put them loosely on the center pulleys before mounting.

#2411 2 years ago

Well I got lucky. The gentleman from tilted who I ordered the beacon from actually had the standoffs and screws. Saaaweeeeet!
Have a ? And sort of a poll. I am going to powder coat coin door. Should I go with red or blue?

The topper works fine and the coin door is black.I got a chance to play for a while at a show before I bough it.plays solid and looks good.obviously a little wear with some crappy touch ups but when you first walk up you don't notice.I didn't notice until I leaned in to inspect because I played a few games and was getting interested in making an offer.has some soft (not real bright) led lights added and now mylared.paid $1600.

#2417 2 years ago

Thanks for response .. than I was just unlucky with the motor !

Enjoy the aircraft !!

Ok. Shows how much I know about what a Fliptronic flipper is. But ya.

Don't have my manual handy or I'd look up the part number but it should be available here: http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=catalog&parent=102&pg=1

#2422 2 years ago

95% done with my decals. I'm getting good at this. A little bit of tweaking and some color matching is all I have left. I'm hoping to print them tomorrow and install them Monday. I'll post pics when it's done.

I have found that the belts you get from Marco are 4.5" ID which is just a size 245 oring. My solution is find a bigger o-ring. I have been using a size 252 or 5.25" ID

If you calculate the belt path you find it to be ~18.14" long. A 4.5"ID oring is only 14.13" in circumference where a 5.25"ID is 16.45", still plenty of tension but not so extreme as to stall the 3w motor.

#2424 2 years ago

Just finished another beacon assembly. If anyone is in need of any parts for one send me a message I can make up another. Also have the outside reflector spindles if anyone is missing one.

Any certain way these wires need hooked up. And can I test assembly.
Thanks again Tilted Pinball for the part!!

#2426 2 years ago

This is AC powered so it doesn't matter which wire goes where.

My F14 was working the other day, then I turned it on this morning and the right sling was fully extended then retracted after 5 sec or so. Now neither sling and the pop bumper works. I tried the coil test and nothing, tried the switch test and nothing. Hmmm, this one has me stumped. Any suggestions?

#2428 2 years ago
Quoted from PokerJake:

I turned it on this morning and the right sling was fully extended

The coil was locked on for some reason.

Quoted from PokerJake:then retracted after 5 sec or so. Now neither sling and the pop bumper works.

The fuse under the play field burned out.

Quoted from PokerJake:Any suggestions?

Cut off one wire on the coil that was locked on then replace the fuse. Now you can troubleshoot the problem at hand.

#2429 2 years ago

Thanks, I found the fuse was blown. Now have to find a place that sells them locally.

#2430 2 years ago

Just picked up a tomcat need help. Popbumper not wired up on switch ,wondering if someone could get a picture of switch wiring for me?

#2431 2 years ago

I don't know if this helps but this is the bottom of my pop bumper.I'm new and don't know the terminology so forgive me of this I'd not the switch.

I did post some photos here when I first made them. Very little light under that ramp since it was black. So in a couple of the shots I put a 12v LED strip....probably overkill but wanted to see it with some illumination.

Photos here...
