Just read a post from a year ago on troubleshooting a f14 beacon motor, as I'm troubleshooting my own f14 beacon light problem- hoping to get similar help, if possible (I started a new topic thread). What's slightly different for my issue is that my motor works (stutters at first, but works fine after that), but the lights don't. In my initial work on the backboard I split up the lights lines from the yellow motor lines because there was a short in the lights that I wanted isolated from the motor- Now I have a fuse holder between the blue/white lines going into the center light assembly, but no lights, unfortunately (see pic). I've been doing my current troubleshooting with the normal 4amp fuse in the normal place, and a 3amp in the new lights only line- from what I can tell, the 30vac is on the bulbs, they just aren't lit, which means I'm either measuring wrong or I'm missing something, probably right in front of me.

When I did robertmee's steps, I'm not getting the 30vac voltage on the exit blue/white line from the snubber board, I'm guessing this is part of my problem? I took a look at the snubber board relays- look like they're moving back and forth during the 16 test, or should they not be clicking back and forth like that?

The light bulbs and motor are powered by the same power source. If the motor spins, you know you have power to the beacon assembly so no need to go back to the relay board or fuses up to that point.

Have you tested the bulbs? You say you have 30 volts at the bulbs in your post. If this is the case and the bulbs don't light, seems like bad bulbs to me...

Makes, sense to me, I'll take a look again and let you know.

What type of bulbs are you using? I remember someone once using the wrong ones and what happened was that they were instantly burning out once they got power.

It's a pretty simple circuit. The motor and lamps run in parallel so if you have the motor and you have good connections at the sockets they should work. Lamps are a #1683.

Thoes are special bulbs, not regular flashers.

These are the correct bulbs for the beacons: http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=38

Thanks for the notes- that's what I was thinking too. Affirm, I'm using the 1683s. Is there a way to test them out of circuit? None of them look bad- no browning, no broken filament wires.

Quoted from Whiskers:

if you want to test the bulb to make sure it's working just pull it out and use a multi meter. Set to continuity, one probe on bottom tip, other on side tip.

Any luck with the lights yet? I have a F14 in front of me. . .the way they should be wired is that they are tied in parallel to the motor. . . If the motor is spinning, the relay is working properly and the voltage is passing. if there is voltage at the bulbs and no light, i'd check the bulbs. Good Luck!

Not yet, still hunting for the time... Will post when I recheck things.

Can you post a link to the old thread on troubleshooting the motor? Cant seem to find it..

My beacon motor works, but its very weak. It can only spin one of the beacons.
