On 8/13/2013 received my first pinball machine. I was super excited it was picked up for around 400 dollars and it was in really bad shape. The unit had to have been dropped at one time as it had damage to the Backbox and the body. The Translight and speakers were held together with duck tape. Playfield doesn't look bad at all other than dirt and rotten rubbers and rust. should clean up nice. Spinner lane usually has more wear than that.

So I did a quick wipe down and wasn't as upset with the purchase. I thought it looked pretty good on the outside.GEDC0457.jpgGEDC0457.jpgGEDC0459.jpgGEDC0459.jpg

So then I wanted to see if it would fire up the unit had been in someones storage unit for god knows how long. I opened the Backbox and was instantly upset someone had stored the pinballs in there and they had broken a more than a couple fuses. Nothing else looked broken and I did forget to take pictures of the 4 or 5 fuses that were broken. So I just cleaned the glass up and removed the broken fuses. I had box of fuses and looked at the manual and replaced the broken ones. GEDC0461.jpgGEDC0461.jpg

Then there was life there was hope that I didn't make a giant mistake I was thinking it was going to be a giant paper weight.

You made out good, I'd pay $400 for that anyday, and I already own one. Congrats!

So I started the Tear down I took pictured of everything so I would know how to put it back together and just dove right into it. There was rust everywhere and old rubber. It was really dirty and I didn't know it at the time but cleaning and Mylar removal was going to take a lot of my free time up. The rails took me 4 hours to polish and get the rust off alone. I just took my time and did the best I could.GEDC0009.jpgGEDC0009.jpgGEDC0002.jpgGEDC0002.jpgGEDC0003.jpgGEDC0003.jpgGEDC0006.jpgGEDC0006.jpgGEDC0004.jpgGEDC0004.jpgGEDC0007.jpgGEDC0007.jpgGEDC0008.jpgGEDC0008.jpg

So after a couple months of cleaning I've gotten to this point I will show some pics of how it looks now. I polished the plastics on the play field. Cleaned up the rails so they are bright and shinny. Removed all the dark pin circles on the play field. I stripped the H channel on the backbox and repainted it. Polished the speaker plastics so it doesn't look all scratched up. I also re glued the side of the Backbox as the laminate had separated. I did all of the Mylar removal and that nasty I mean nasty glue removal from the Mylar. I didn't understand that Mylar removal was easy I thought that would be hard. The hard part is all the glue that is left over it's very time consuming.GEDC0018.jpgGEDC0018.jpgGEDC0019.jpgGEDC0019.jpgGEDC0020.jpgGEDC0020.jpgGEDC0021.jpgGEDC0021.jpgGEDC0022.jpgGEDC0022.jpgGEDC0023.jpgGEDC0023.jpgGEDC0024.jpgGEDC0024.jpgGEDC0025.jpgGEDC0025.jpg

Well I've got a lot done so far. I rebuilt all the flippers today. They now have punch to them. I have the beacons working. I will be adding Decals to the inserts when I get a chance. My main issue is that the upper and lower Diverter arms are not working. I checked the coils and the bottom one is burnt out both of them where and seem to have been disconnected along time ago. I replaced the coils on both and rebuilt them but they still don't work. GEDC0028.jpgGEDC0028.jpg Basicly right now everything works except the upper and lower diverters. Being a newbie to the pin realm I'm now looking for advise on how to trouble shoot this issue. any help would be great.

It works It works. The U49 U50 and U56 chips were burnt out. The Q77 and Q79 Transistors have been replaced. Just got done testing it and I now have a working machine. I'm So happy right now so happy. I traced down what was out and because my soldering skills were not good enough I had my buddy come over and take the board home for the repairs. It was plug and play when he brought it back.GEDC0001.JPGGEDC0001.JPGGEDC0002.JPGGEDC0002.JPGGEDC0003.JPGGEDC0003.JPGGEDC0004.JPGGEDC0004.JPGGEDC0005.JPGGEDC0005.JPGGEDC0006.JPGGEDC0006.JPGGEDC0007.JPGGEDC0007.JPG

Any more progress on it? Looks good so far. $400 is a great price for it!

I recently bought one myself, which is in similar shape. Are you planning on clearcoating the playfield when replacing the insert decals?

Looking great!

You should have your buddy help you solder on a remote battery holder to get the batteries off the main board.

Watch out for the insert decals that are on the market. The printing on them isn't shiny and they are thick enough to deflect the ball.

When I shopped mine, I removed the foam pads behind the targets and installed new. That really makes a difference in how the ball bounces off the targets. My machine feels like new! http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=410
