Grey is reserved for logic voltage wiring in the backbox, as far as I can tell from schematics. I no longer have an F-14. That is why I suggested following it to see where it goes. Perhaps in a previous repair they were trying to pass the column signal to another switch in the column and that might have been the only color they had.
Quoted from steve8091:Thanks again. For some reason I didn't see your switch matrix pic the first time around! The wire certainly doesn't seem like it is necessary, and I like your thought about it being some sort of previous repair addition. I'm going to play around with it a bit today and see what I need to fix my issue. I just hate working with those damned screws that hold down the ramps.
I understand. I just wouldn't hook it up to anything until I was certain I knew what it was for.
