Hi all.

I am in the middle of refurbishing the bottom panel of my Eye of the Tuger. As this is my first EM I have a couple of random questions. Appreciate any input.

1. The hold, first ball and game over relays are burned up. As per Clays guide, I am replacing these with A16890 coils. Is the capacitor or resistor necessary when using these coils? Clays guide is a bit ambiguous. If so, is 47 uf instead of 50 uf acceptable?

2. I've noticed some weird coil resistances on some relays. For example the AX relay coil is 7.5 ohms when it should be 14.9. Does this really matter so long as there isn't a dead short?

3. The coil on my tilt relay (last relay on the bank) is also showing 0.04 ohms, even though it is not burned up at all and there are no signs of damage. Does this need replacement or is it meant to read this low for some reason?

Thanks for any advice. I'm sure I'll have more questions soon.

Quoted from rolf_martin_062:

Hi arolden
I have my ideas and other pinsiders have theirs. I do not replace someting in the pin if it is not broken-down / cant be fixed --- I may have an eye on an relay that is getting hot - sure if a coil is making a short is making the fuse to blow: I replace the coil.
To get trusty readings when measuring OHMs: We must unsolder wire / wires at least on one side of the coil - did You do unsolder - then measuring ? Greetings Rolf

Thanks Rolf. I tested it with both lugs connected. I will desolder one and retest.

Quoted from MikeO:

47uf is close enough to 50uf.

Quoted from Homepin:

47uf is the industry standard "preferred value" - electro caps generally have a VERY wide tolerance range in any case rarely better than 5%
A typical 10% 47uf could actually be anywhere from 37~52 and still be perfectly acceptable.
Usually electro caps are used for bypass applications and the value is not overly critical.
To answer your question, YES, a 47uf is a perfectly acceptable replacement for a 50uf electro cap - just make sure the voltage is the same or HIGHER for the replacement.

Thanks for the confirmation. I will grab some 47 ufs.
