Export Machine Power Shutting Off

Was having problems finding related threads in the forum using the search feature because of a lack of terminology. So if someone could point me to the right threads, I'd be very appreciative.
I have an export machine that while playing will shut off. With the machine powered down, the only way I can get it to power back on is by removing the power cord coming from the outlet into the back of the machine from the back of the machine, waiting several seconds, and then plugging it back in. If I unplug it and then replug it in too quickly, I get no results. I have reset the machine in the past and it worked for a few months with hard continuous play, but today it happened twice on me.
I am assuming that the power cord is being plugged into some type of converter from 220 to 110 (but could be completely wrong as I'm new to the hobby but learning everyday). ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

If you plug it in and it works for awhile - it is wired for 110, not your problem.

You'll have to dig deeper to get going in a direction to fix it.

Next time it goes off, see if you have correct AC going into transformer. ( carefully ). If not then check thermisistor or varisistor in the game, and connections from cord to transformer.

If correct AC going to transformer, then check the AC outputs next to see if transformer is the issue.

Name of game please ? Might get you more help.

Hmmm...in the back of the cabinet, the opposite side of the electrical box that the plug goes into, you will find solder lugs for hot, ground, and neutral (black, white, and green). Make sure you have solid solder connections there. It will be covered by a rubber "boot"

Thanks for the reply LTG! First off it's a Twilight Zone. I did dig a little deeper the first time it happened cause I was unsure of the problem and traced back through the machine to the only power source I had, which was coming out of the power cord coming from the outlet. (Original line of thinking was obviously a fuse before I started hunting...) When it powers off, there is no power anywhere in the machine. The power cord coming from the outlet has been solid everytime I checked it. When it powers back on, everything is normal. IS there something I should be checking while the machine is working? If not, there is absolutely NO power to anything while it is plugged in, switch turned to on, and not working. There is no current going into the transformer to check as its not getting that far.
Any other ideas?

Thanks Chris. This is my mission tomorrow as its currently on location and I'm sitting at my house in front of my computer now. I'm hoping that its just a bad solder point with a loose connection.
It just seems like I've been able to find everything in these forums, technical or 'not so' technical and was able to teach myself by reading through threads. Just didn't see anything in the archives when doing a search, so I thought maybe someone would be able to steer me in the right direction so I could better trouble shoot tmrw when I have the hood up.

Meter in hand - power at game side of switch ? power at power cord side of switch ? Power cord plugs or solder joints good ? Then susped the thermisistor/varisistor line filter thingy.

It's definitely an odd problem. And, the issue I described, I've seen only once in many years of repairing games. We scratched our heads for a long time on that one.

You can help yourself debug the problem by plugging a lamp into the service outlet inside the cabinet. If the lamp goes off, the connection I noted, the plug into the back of the game, the wall plug, or the cord itself will be the issue. Those are all the suspects between the wall outlet and the service outlet.

Just to close out the thread..... With the machine shut down on me, I back tracked the nearest source of power to the cord coming out of the wall outlet. By chance, while testing the cord, I notice the meter flicker. Upon further inspection, the cord had a short in it. Replaced cord and I'm now back to 100%. Thanks guys for the troubleshooting ideas!

I suspect you mean the cord was going open circuit - a short would have caused the circuit breaker to pop at the meter box?

Despite what some may think it IS important to get the terminology correct to avoid misunderstandings.

Everyone starts somewhere. We all did.
I thanks the OP for following up!
