I'd like to use this thread to gather the experiences of the attendees and the creators of the custom pins in the Multimorphic P-ROC-powered custom pinball booth at expo. We had 6 machines for play in that area: two Buffy the Vampire Slayer pins, Casino, Deadpin, Doom, Ironman HD, and Total Annihilation.

It's great to see people walk up and enjoy and appreciate our games. Expo is the one of the few times a year we get together and share our work with the public. We all know we aren't spooky, JJP, or Stern and even if we do use the same board as Dutch Pinball, we aren't them, either --at least not yet. We know there isn't much industry impact on what we do, so most podcasts pay us no mind. And really, we are also sorry that you aren't going to be able to buy games from us. Attendees often ask, "so why are you doing this?" and ... I don't know if any of us are sure why we are doing it.

I can tell you it fills us all with great pride to share these machines with the attendees of Expo, that's for sure.

So, thank you to those of you to those of you who stopped by and played our games. Those who paid us even backhanded complements were enormously helpful and made it much harder to return to our normal day jobs today.

If you have any thoughts, comments, pictures, videos, or...anything, please post/link them here. Especially video. It seems we were all too busy socializing and talking shop to take any of our own games.

Finally, an enormous thank you goes out to Gerry Stellenberg for making the P-ROC and for inviting us all to expo to show off our games. We would not be there without his great work, and the work of Adam Preble on the pyprocgame framework.

Thanks everyone!!

Quoted from desertT1:

Who's that hoser who keeps hogging Buffy? J/K, Jack Danger was saying that Ed's a really good player. Looks like a great row of games. Love the creativity that is possible in this hobby.

Jack played too. I forgot I had these.

Ed was a tremendously nice guy and an amazing sport. Here's the behind the scenes shot of him partaking in the subversive Expo pictures thread:

Quoted from Bonnevil69:

I didn't take a single picture. Well except for the hall of death we have to wheel our machines down

Some pics of the underside of Doom. You do such beautiful and intimidating work...

Quoted from epthegeek:

I'm the great pretender in this bunch of dudes. Too scared to try to make a game myself, just keep dinking with code on existing games.

This is Utter nonsense. Sure, I also feel intimidated by these ultra talented builder guys (or worse, the ones doing builds and code), but code matters.

More to the point, your CCC code has been an essential part of the larger body of "PyProcGame programming knowledge" out there for some time now. Hell, I used your code as one of the references I (and many others) consulted when learning pyprocgame, so you're going to have to stop pretending you're just a pretender.

Quoted from rosh:

In all seriousness I've always said that what he does is crazier than what I do. Re-creating the software of a game is a case where anything less than perfect results in idiots bitching about it not being right or worse someone taking it and then profiting off of it.
when I build a game the rules are what I make them and I don't have to hear shit about it from some know it all, well except for that little guy at expo who wants to tell all of us how our games should operate.

Woah. Too dark ...and that's coming from me!

I think Eric is lucky to have so many people engaged in and using his project, and I'd bet he'd say similarly. Without a doubt there can be some frustration that "users/players" don't necessarily appreciate all the work and frustration that goes into a project when they casually bag on an issue, but that's to be expected, and par for the course.

I even appreciate the guy that you are referring to at Expo (to some extent); having someone be brutally honest gives us a tiny taste of the "real pinball company experience" as most people have little problem being brutally honest to those people.

I've received my share of negative feedback about Buffy and I've had it really bum me out. Thankfully most are from people who refuse to play it, or just write Nelly and me off as SoF killers. Negative feedback from people who are willing to give it a chance and play it is honesty helpful. Many folks simply don't feel comfortable in that way. This weekend, I even Asked Hilton for his patented brutal honesty and was happy to receive it.

Quoted from Methos:

Buffy was impressive but I don't condone using SOF's to make em.

That's fine. We presently have no plans to break into your house and Buffify your SoF.

Quoted from Whysnow:

I have a project SoF you can feel free to Buffify... Just be sure you leave it here when you are done

This guy gets it.
