I've been collecting and restoring my own pins for over 30 years now.
There is nothing wrong with older machines; mechanical types
from the early 1930's, EM's of all sorts, early solid state or any others.
Even bingos (gasp!). The trick is to go through and clean/adjust them properly while
looking for things that are close to failing like burned connectors or
wires. And this is not a difficult skill to get either. Just take patience,
asking questions and being willing to dig in.
Out of 52 pins here almost half are early solid state like Gottlieb series
1 and 80 as well as Bally and Williams. Most of the balance are EMs.
Only three are what most would consider 'newish'.
Get what strikes your fancy and learn from it. Hope you get as much
enjoyment out of this as I have!
