Just finishing up a EK restoration for a fellow Pinsider & figured I'd show off some pics that I had taken along the way.

This one was in pretty bad shape cabinet wise when he brought it to me, needed considerable wood repair etc.

Stripped it & sanded it down to see what I had to work with.

The Key hole in side of backbox was all gouged out, there were wood chunks missing from the back box as well as the front of the cabinet etc.

Display board.... I made it look little better than Bally did. I used Pinscore displays because customer already had them, I'd have preferred Pinitechs, & I will do them in his KISS restoration that I am starting on now. Comet SMD's, new braid & sockets obviously. Bead blasted & cleared the display holders to give them natural look that won't surface rust.

Light testing. Bead blasted, painted, decaled & cleared the apron.... Damn right pop bumper lamp holder is being a pain.

About only thing I have left to do is finish polishing the lockdown bar. Had some interesting issues with the new rectifier board, that took a few hours to diagnose, & one display wire on display #1 that needed some re-work, but other than those fairly minor issues, it was pretty easy to get it up & running & get everything adjusted where I like it.

Mix of Comet & cointaker LEDs & SMDs smattered throughout the PF.

This was by far the nicest restoration I have done to date, obviously making it the most time consuming. Somewhere around 230-240 hours in it. I'm doing a KISS now for the same owner to the same level & with just a few minor tweaks here & there to my system of how I do things, I think can make the results on it even better. This one had pretty nice factory clear job on the CPR which I left alone. The KISS CPR is pretty bad clear wise, so I'm going to re-do the clear on it myself. I'm not Kruzman, but I think I can get the clear pretty nice on it. Couple other little tweaks here & there, should make it a quite nice machine.

    Quoted from eagle18:

On the display board there is a empty hole to the right of where the #3 player is located. I put a light there on my EK and it lights up the other exhaust pipe. Especially if u put red ones in both. Not sure why they put the hole in the board and didn’t install a light from the factory.

There is actually a second hole below Display #1, same deal, no bulb/socket from factory. I've seen it on other Bally's as well. The one below display #1 would require some interesting braid routing, not sure I'd ever add one there as it's in Evel's forehead area. But the next one I do, I will add braid & a socket for the second exhaust pipe flame. Never sat & thought about what that empty hole would light up, good catch.

    Another EK to restore....

This one was one of those God awful Professional Pinball retrofit kits. With an absolutely "lovely" paint job on it. Why on earth an operator would have ever spent the time & $ to "convert" one of these machines to this horrid mess I will never know. Let's take an iconic red white & blue paint scheme & cover it with thick Grey metallic paint, slap some decals on the plastics & install possibly the worst looking backglass in the history of pinball in the game & call it good. When the PF is still obviously an Evel Knievel...... it's not like they were hiding what game it was.

Lot's of mouse poop & misc pieces in the cab. It's pretty crusty, but it's all there. The cab is actually starting to separate pretty badly on the right front corner, the finger joint on this cab is horrible. So once I get it sanded down, that will have to be one of the first things to fix.

The bottom of PF definitely saw some heavy condensation at one time. A lot of rusty stuff.....

I'm actually going to use a different PF in this game, with a Hard Top due to the rust on every screw, switch etc that was in the bottom of the PF. Once I stripped it, it's in way worse condition than it even looks in these pics.

Donor PF stripped. Began repairs of underside & going to install all new inserts. These ones were yellowed/aged a bit. Fresh ones will really pop with 4 SMD's under them.

New inserts installed & sanded down...... would have been great if I had'nt forgotten one of the 1" Whites like an idiot. Will get it sanded down here after the epoxy cures.

Still need to sand all the inserts with finer paper to get scratches out of them, but they are all level & I cleaned up insides of all the PF holes/slots etc.
