First it was pinball machines (EM’s and newer ones ) then antique slot machines. Now I’ve gone and done it. I’ve gotten myself into the “metal detecting” hobby.

Anyone else into this hobby or other similar ones that when you were young you always thought “that’s for old geezers”?

Well, it’s time to get my Bermuda shorts, long black socks and Sandals on and start walking the beaches !

For me- it’s the Fisher “Gold Bug 2” and the “xpointer” for a pinpoint

I know there’s a completely different forum for this hobby, but didn’t know if there were other pinheads into this hobby too?

    It’s hell getting old!

First thing I find when I bought my detector ? Really? Zoom in. Hilarious

Could merge the hobbies hunting for runaway e-clips and other parts on my gameroom floor.

I’d probably own a detector if the state of VA wasn’t so strict with their required permission for detecting on public property.

Bought my boys one for Christmas this year. It is the gift that keeps on giving...not yet in a monetary sense, but in keeping my boys busy. So far they found $.50, nails, re-bar, cans, bottle caps, a railroad tie, a huge bolt for some heavy equipment, nails in my yard and so on. I just remind them to be courteous when replacing soil. No one has said anything to them yet. I tell them just remind people they are cleaning up the environment.

I enjoy the You Tube videos of guys using these things on WW2 battlefields.

Yeah - besides the one penny I’ve found - this is what I’ve found so far. (That and a lot of bottle caps, pull tabs and even candy foil wrappers) mainly trash but I’ll keep looking. Looks like old railroad items

Of course right now I’m in Oregon so maybe when I get back East I can find more places to search (battle fields and beaches )

Who knows, if you are exploring the gorge,
you might find some artifact from the lewis and clark expedition.

Have a few more weeks here so anything is possible. After almost a month Oregon is growing on me !
