Does anyone have any advice on this issue? I have an escalera staircat MS160 and we were getting ready to use it. My son was pressing the switch down and then pressed the switch up and it sparked from somewhere. Now there is no action when the switch is pressed. I tried to check the breaker and it seems ok. Would that leave the switch or the motor as the problem? What is a good way to troubleshoot? Thanks!

Open up the up/down switch box and visually inspect. Make sure the wire that is attached to the box/frame is still in its place, and look for arcs or burning, maybe disconnect the battery before you do that.

If that older forklift model is like the one that I got used you'll have to remove the forklift part and get new handles. When I did mine I replaced the sides with a shorter version so it would fit easier in my car but I can't remember if new sides were a requirement. Escalera was very helpful getting the parts.

Joined the StairCat club this weekend and used it for the first time to pick up a World Cup Soccer and it went smoothly.

I had a question about the pinball plate that attaches to the forks. When we put it on the forks there were 4 pins, 2 on each side, we pushed those in as far as they would go but they barely start to go into the matching holes on the forks. The plate has some wiggle but isn't going to slide off. I guess I figured it would attach more snugly. Is this normal for this accessory?

Boat - Thanks for your reply. I checked and the switch itself looks a little brown but I am not sure what is considered normal. The wire to the frame is still connected. See images of the switch attached.

Yes. Same thing here with mine. There always seem to be 2 of the 4 metal pins that are in the holes at any given time. Never had any problem with it, maybe if you have a lot of weight concentrated only at the very tip end of the plate then it could pop off.

Yea that looks fine, check continuity from the black switch lug wire lug (close to the switch as possible) and to the outside/frame of your escalera. I think you need a strong ground signal.

If thats testing okay then my best guess is double check the terminals on the battery and the connections near the battery to make sure they were connected properly. I’m not sure if the breaker acts as a fuse or how to test that other than replace. I guess you could engage the switch and check for continuity across the breaker? Again please with battery disconnected

Boat - I measure from the lug that the black wire connects to to the frame and I am getting anywhere from 500 ohms to 1kohm.

Boat - So I tried to tighten the black wire lug to frame nut and ended up breaking the bolt/rivet by over tightening. I drilled a hole and fastened it with a #8 machine screw and nut. Now it measures 0.4 ohms and the escalera works again. Thank you so much for your help!

Does anyone have any insight on MS-66 vs MS-72? I’m looking at a used unit that is the 72 model. Has extra load wheels (4 total if extended) extra retractable strap, big wheel attachment, and portable steps. I’ve used the 66 model several times but never the 72. Is it too big?

I’ve got the 72 and it works well for me, I like the extra leverage it provides. However, if you have a tight turn in your stairs, or a smaller pin hauler, the extra height could be an issue. I have an id.4 (smaller end of mid-size SUV) and it’s a tight squeeze, needing to rest between the front seats.
