Quoted from jboner1058:

Placed the abs plastic posts in a ziplock bag with 6% peroxide. Then placed that bag in the sous vide water set to 125 degrees for 8 hours with UV light blasting it (stirring the bag up every hour or so to even out the light distribution. Then went back on the nylon parts for 4 hours at 160 degrees to brighten then up a bit without melting them

Posts like this are why I browse all restoration threads, priceless info!!

It hit 67 here but the humidity was through the roof even if it did hit 70. I still have to get some parts to the powder coater in town, but he’s been upgrading his shop the last couple of months so he can do even larger things. Right now he has a 6 foot by 4 foot square oven with a 4 foot wide spray box and he’s upgraded to an 8 foot spray booth and 12 foot oven but is still tweaking things.

Ughhhhh today would have been perfect weather to clear coat this thing but I had to work all day. “Essential”

FINALLY!!! 2K cleat finally on! Not perfect. A couple bits of dust got on the field between coats that might polish out. That black shows every defect

Legs are at the powder coater. Gonna just use black Spray paint on The other parts that are unseen to save a little cash on this project

Very nice restoration of a pretty rare machine.

Got one coat of black in before rain and sanding prep for bondo on the busted up cab. I am having a hell of a time trying to find matching dark burlwood laminate for this machine. I may have to go with straight black

You could always just use a burlwood of a similar pattern and stain it to match the existing rather than finding an exact match in color - a number of furniture rebuilders will do this if they want to repair the existing laminates when they intend to refinish the intact laminate anyway. You might have to do some tests with a piece of the replacement laminate to see what gets a close match.

Hardening and coating the particle board in some black spray to keep it from swelling as bad as it was

Well I finally found matching dark burlwood laminate... at $480 for an 8x4 sheet. Not happening. I’ve already got $600 in parts into this machine that I don’t think it’s even worth that much

#63 3 years ago

Gonna see what kind of vinyl wrap I can find, or go all black laminate to better match my living room where this is gonna be my coffee table

How does that Wood Hardener work? Is it very thin and soaks in? I wonder if it would help stabilize particle wood.

That’s what I use it on partical wood. It’s a lot like water thin superglue and dries almost instant

a down vote?
I too use the Minwax hardener with complete satisfaction.

That was a mis-click on my part and has been corrected.
I used to own an Eros One myself and miss it greatly.
Feel free to PM me in the future if I make an obviously doofy vote

Legs in flat black are done! Back to work on this eventually. Really thought with covid shutdowns I’d have time to get this done... but nope... essential worker 5 days a week all quarantine long

I would kill for a dust and cat hair free environment to paint and stain in

This work looks great. I too am a member of the 'cocktails formerly soaked in rat droppings' club after rescuing my wife's roy clark. I got lucky, it cleaned up fairly nice (although I think I ended up with more damaged spots than you did). The board was no good but I was able to pluck a good one off my friend's pile. The rest of his boards (plus my original) are going off to get fixed and then I'll be helping him get a bunch of his games breathing again.

Hope you're able to post some updates soon!

The workshop heater (and house heater) burnt up blowing oil soot everywhere back in October. Finally got a new gas system in so hopefully once everything gets cleaned (again) I can continue on

Workshop is back up and running after being down for almost a year post fire. I will be starting back up on this project soon. Some things I will have to start from scratch thanks to the soot damage

Sorry to hear about the issues with your furnace

Hope you didn't lose too much in the ordeal.

Anything made out of unfinished wood, cloth, or paper in my supplies is trashed. Anything painted is wrecked too since to remove soot I’ve gotta use a thinner like rubbing alchohol. Naphtha just makes a mess of it
