Quoted from too-many-pins:I guarantee most people who have done it once will never do it again! It isn't as easy as it looks and Troy or anyone else who takes the risk truly deserves any profit they might make. I don't know Troy but I wish him luck & safe travels. I just wish people who don't understand would give guys like Troy a break when it comes to "easy money" - bulk deals are not easy money and in most cases were some of the hardest money I have ever made
In my early days of collecting I did a bulk deal for 15 pins and quadrupled my money. Back then, I would have done it again. Now that I have a family, my time is worth way more money than buying and selling machines. If I had time, I would do it again. But it does take time, resources, and space. All of which are at a premium. A (more than) couple of years ago I passed on an operator bulk deal in Kentucky for 100 machines. I know for a fact I would have tripled my money, but the thought of renting out a semi and taking a week of my time was something I had zero interest in.
Obviously a lot of the thrill is the hunt. It is super satisfying seeing these sitting just waiting to be picked up. Kudos to Troy for still enjoying the thrill of the hunt after all these years.
