Quoted from John_in_NC:I have restored about a dozen so far but seem to sell them off to make room for the next project.
I've not been able to bring myself to sell any, and the basement is filling up. I'm even overflowing into a friend's shop. There's two primary reasons I think I can't bring myself to do it. The first is that I put so much time and effort into them that when it's time to move on, I can't bring myself to do it. The other is that I worry that I may be passing on problems to the new owner, perhaps things I haven't fixed correctly, or have overlooked.
How do you get yourself to be able to sell? I need help, perhaps an intervention.
Quoted from o-din:It takes courage.
The drinking usually just influences my purchasing, not so much my selling yet. It's amazing how something that I'm on the fence about buying normally, is so easy to pull the trigger on after a few Gin and tonics or a couple of large Scotches. A few days before Christmas I bought a 3d printer after reading an article that you might be able to print pinball parts - a few drinks and that article was all it took. Come to think of it, the price of Scotch should come with the average price of the stuff you are going to buy when drinking it factored into it!
Quoted from wayner:A nice looking machine peclark-congrats. The World Fair next door is a machine I would like to have in my collection.
Thanks! I was lucky to find the World Fair nearby in Lincoln, Nebraska. I was looking for a mid-sixties wedgehead title that "said" something to me, and then this one popped up. It was working and cosmetically ok, but in slightly neglected shape. After a complete shop, touch-up, and clearcoat it's playing pretty well. It is incredibly difficult to get all the cars lit for special! IMG_7578.jpg
Quoted from jodini:I missed that one...your stealing from my own backyard! HA!
Sorry man... I went to high school in Omaha and college in Lincoln - does that help my cause at all?? It seems like more machines pop up there than down here. I'm not sure if that's right or not, but it sure seems that way.
Quoted from GizzArd:Here is most of my woodrails, jack n jill, world champ, universe, flying trapeze silver, coronation, singapore roll down, wagon train, and minstrel man
Beautiful machines! I especially love the "Universe". The artwork and backglass animation look really neat. How is it to play?
Quoted from jfh:United's Major League with "kickers", not flippers.
That is a beautiful machine! How does the diamond in the middle of the playfield work?
My Chinatown was missing the apron cardboard and also the instructions. I ordered a repro cardboard from PBR. You have to trim the cardboard to the right size for your apron. IMG_7594.jpg
I couldn't find an instruction card to print anywhere, but I did find a one for Skill-pool on Inkochnito's instruction card site on pinballrebel. I typed the text from a picture on pinrepair site into the Skill-Pool template to make instructions for Chinatown. Here's how it turned out. IMG_7607.jpg
I couldn't bring myself to staple it down to the apron so I used a glue stick I found in my wifes craft stuff. IMG_7603.jpg
I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
Quoted from Rat_Tomago:Surf Side got some new metal tonight.
That looks fantastic! I've been debating about replacing the coin door on World Fair, but just kept talking myself out of it. Now seeing yours I think I'm going to be emailing PBR....
Quoted from slawnski:Though technically not a traditional pinball machine per se- I just picked up a 1949 Bally Lexington- super stoked about this game! works and plays great - I need to do some research and get a few dozen more rolls of nickles!
I love the artwork - looks beautiful. I have to laugh at the "No Minors Allowed". My son asked me about this on my Chinatown. I had to try to explain to him how "back in the day" folks thought these games would corrupt our youth. He just looked at me like I was stupid/crazy...
