EM's are so beautiful and a lot of fun. They are so foreign to me though that I am scared to own one. Are they harder to work on than a SS/DMD game?

#325 10 years ago
Quoted from Pafasa:

I see your point. The built in diagnostics are a great help. Something that EM machines don't have. For me though, understanding board level circuitry and troubleshooting is the bigger challenge. I can "see" the entire "circuit board" inside and out with an EM. Things are hidden inside chips on modern machines. This is why EM is easier for me. I work better with the mechanical than the electronic.

I generally do as well, the mechanical parts of a pinball machine for me are the easy fixes. I just have no idea how the EM's really work inside. Is there a good set of tutorial videos or anything that you guys would suggest when learning about them?

#394 10 years ago
Quoted from jasonsmith:

Here's my collection of "project" machines. Cosmetically they're not perfect but they work 100% and more importantly they're 100% fun.

how is that Olympic Hockey? There is one for sale a little ways away from me.

#406 10 years ago

I saw a Nip It in person the other day. Neat machine! Sadly I did not get to play.

#428 10 years ago

I remember opening up my Donkey Kong cab when I first got it and the counter said 150,000+ plays. If even half to 3/4 of those were legit quarter in the slot games, I would say that it paid for itself a few times over back in the day

#434 10 years ago

I think you guys have convinced me. I WILL own an EM soon I have been going through all of the EM's that are available on Future Pinball and have been having a lot of fun. There are some truly beautiful games out there.

So......anybody have a Beat the Clock they want to sell?

#450 10 years ago

Dang, Kings and Queens next to a Big Hit I love the Gottlieb baseball games.

#456 10 years ago
Quoted from GreyScale:

Nice Kings and Queens there, Dirt! Got to play a little bit of the machine on location earlier in the day, got a good enough score to win 7 free games. Talk about generous!

On location? Where?

#458 10 years ago

That is sweet, I will have to check them out next time I am up there. I always make sure I hit Pizza West when I am in town as well, but it would be a trip to play some EM's on location.

#460 10 years ago

Cool, last time I was at Pizza West he still had the Tri Zone in there.

#485 10 years ago
Quoted from Rat_Tomago:

Pafasa, I am very happy that this thread has made you want to buy up some EMs If this thread made that ONE person buy an EM or two then part of the mission of this thread has been accomplished.

Make that two people I want a single player EM pretty bad

#487 10 years ago

That is what I am hoping, but nothing of interest yet

#493 10 years ago

Let's revive this thread! I am hoping to be acquiring not one but two wedgeheads before long. Assuming I can get the deal made

We had one local for free on CL the other day but I was still on vacation.

#495 10 years ago

Was that the free one that I missed?

#499 10 years ago
Quoted from TheShameGovernor:

Certainly wasn't free to me.

Ah, well there was one of those for free on CL here in Springfield on Saturday. I was out of town, but I know it was only listed for about 30 min before it was taken down. Looks like it is in the same condition.

#507 10 years ago

I want a Volley, there was one a couple hours away a month or two ago and I didn't jump on it quick enough. By the time I did the seller decided to keep it.

#509 10 years ago

Too bad I was in Colorado last week.

#534 10 years ago
Quoted from frg:

Well I got a Target Alpha with about 6.500 plays. After some cleaning, polishing and tumbling... look
No touch ups were needed... (but I have to still solve one or two technical issues...)
https://www.icloud.com/photostream/de-de/#A15oqs3qm6JV3
By the way... are also lots EMs in the US without a chime unit? It is really a pain to get the units here in Germany, since the german distributor wanted them to be delivered without chime units (at least lots of them).

I'd shoot my Grandmother for that Fathom!

Well I guess I can join the club now. It is very dirty with some planking, but I always love a challenge. The backbox lights up but it won't currently start a game. I have a lot to learn but it is fun to be part of the EM club now

#1166 10 years ago
Quoted from Rat_Tomago:

I look forward to the thread you start with people helping you with any troubles. It is always nice to get someone converted over to buying EMs.

Oh you can believe that I will be asking for a lot of help The good news is that it seems like it 'wants' to work right now as I can hit the vari-target while it is in 'attract mode' and a bunch of stuff starts to clicking and a bunch of the relays fire, so there is power to most things. I am sure it isn't super simple, but at least it doesn't something

#1168 10 years ago
Quoted from Pin-it:

If you have a schematic great if not i would order one.

Yup, getting ready to order one from Marco.

#1175 10 years ago

Well, some good news. I was looking at that picture I posted above and noticed that 'tilt' was lit up on the backglass. I figured that had something to do with the playfield lights not being on. I called my dad this morning (the pin is at his house for the time being) and he poked at the tilt relay and sure enough it clicked off and the playfield lights came on. A game still would not start, so he proceeded to poke the start relay and a game started. He said everything appears to score and work, even the vari-target. So that is good news that it looks like it needs a good cleaning all around

Finally got my Big Brave home. Kind of an odd couple here I can't wait to tear into it and get it working and then on to a full restore.

I always think it would be fun to own one of those bingo machines and then I see one opened up and get scared to death

I have a newb EM question. Is the Teflon Gel Lube that Clay talks about in his videos the same stuff as Super Lube?

#2439 10 years ago

Haha, I don't remember. I met too many people this weekend to keep track. That was my first time meeting Lonnie as I have missed all of the tournaments down here that he usually attends.

#2441 10 years ago

Ya, I honestly don't think I met any of the Pinside people aside from 1 or 2. I was there with my family and some other people so I was always talking with one of them it seemed like and didn't get much of a chance to meet strangers

Next year I am going to wear a Pinside badge of some sorts.

#2467 10 years ago

Single player wedgies huh.....?

#2514 10 years ago

So I guess the 1200ish I got on Slick Chick at TPF wasn't a terrible score

#2516 10 years ago
Quoted from btw75:

No, it sure wasn't! Especially if you got it on the other machine with weak pops.

Haha, no I got about 450 on that one.

#2524 10 years ago
Quoted from dphelps:

I just looked at your collection list. How do you like your Target Alpha? I'm kind of interested in one of these or an El Dorado, I like all the drop targets.

We just put a nice one on location here this evening. It is a blast.

#2556 10 years ago

I really want to get one of the baseball games at some point. I really enjoy the look and I am a huge baseball fan. I have only played playball though. Big Hit looks like a lot of fun with all of the drops at the top. I think it is the best looking of the group as well.

#2558 10 years ago

Which games do you find the easiest to roll the score on? A friend of mine picked up a Target Alpha last week and it seems like one out of every 3 games I roll the score. I am not a good player either

#2560 10 years ago

Oh, this is on 3 ball too

I have read you can make scoring adjustments on these, but I have no idea how to do it I am still really new to EM's and I haven't even gotten my own (Big Brave) going yet.

#2563 10 years ago

What are the adjustments in the backbox of my big brave that have different jumpers with different values on them? There is a piece of paper that says something about scoring on it.

#2565 10 years ago

Oh, gotcha. I don't know if I will ever put my BB on location, but I might, so that is good to know.

#2604 10 years ago

So it is a two player version of Atlantis?

What is the best tool for cleaning out inside of the female jones plug connector? My machine has a lot of corrosion and I have looked around for a small wire brush to get in there but have been unable to find anything.

The pitch and bat games with the lever are the best IMO.

Wow that thing is nice!

Quoted from Chippewa-Pin:

Picked up a Gottlieb Spin out about a month ago. It was in pretty good shape. After fixing the roto until (thanks Boilerman!!) and making a few adjustments, she's all shined up and playing great!

I had a friend hook me up with a Gottlieb Merry Go Round today. It is pretty rough, but it actually does work and play. Needs some TLC and a new backglass but it was free so I can't complain Pretty low run game. Kinda cool.
