Guess it's my turn.

Just took some fresh pictures.

My arcade is full up with 6 machines. Current lineup

1971 Williams "Stardust" - works 100% - need a new Backglass (high resolution scan-anyone?)
1971 Williams "Klondike" - non working project - I will Clearcoat this baby - Backglass OK
1973 Williams "Gulfstream" - works 100% - New Backglass from bgresto.com
1975 Chicago Coin "Top Ten" - Current Project - 1st Clearcoat job for me - New Backglass to come
1975 Gottlieb "Spirit of 76" - works 100% - Backglass OK
1976 Williams "Space Odyssey" - works 100% - Backglass OK, but may order a new one

Hopefully with a new home down the road I can double my collection as I need some Gottlieb Wedgeheads

Quoted from o-din:

It's not going to be perfect, but it's cleaning up real nice. What do you want for $150?. I couldn't find Star Pool in the pinside archive,

Williams "Star Pool" is a fun game and I played it quite a bit when I was a kid as it was at a local bowling alley. Loved the spinner and all the lights surrounding it. It was a very pretty cool looking machine back in the day and I did well playing it.

I remember it was replaced by a Gottlieb "Buccaneer" which stayed for quite a while and I did not like it and wanted Star Pool back, oh well. I ended up going to a different bowling alley because of the change to play Gottliebs "Spirit of 76" which kicked my ass and still does to this day as I own it.

Seeing these is nearly motivating me to finish this...

Looks like a fun game, very cool artwork, and wonderful Backbox animation.

Come on, you know you can do it John.........finish that Flipper Clown

Quoted from TheShameGovernor:

The play counter says 4700 plays which doesn't seem like a lot to me for a 46 year old machine considering I've put about 30 games on it already.

Great find!

Pretty sure the counter has rolled over and you are looking at 104700 Plays.

I believe a repro Backglass will be available for this title in the near future.

Enjoy!

Not a huge EM guy, but just picked up a REAL nice Zaccaria...

Congrats!

Wow! Talk about great condition! Care to share the price you paid?

Ken

Not really as it was from a fellow Pinsider. Tried to convince him to keep it, as it is in stellar condition, but since it was on the block I grabbed it to keep it in the area.

I Understand. Have fun with it!

pafasa is one of the prime "enablers" around here... him, ken, stashyboy, pin-it, o-din and intopinball (amoungst others) are why my wallet is thin these days...

Sorry Chris, I don't mean to be an enabler. You know I want to make it up to you.......maybe I can...........wait...........oh WOW!

I know you already know about this but what a bargain! Check out this deal again Chris! Ya gotta get it!

Oops.....Did I do it again? My bad.

Ken

#792 5 years ago
Quoted from Skybug:

But Pafasa went the extra mile to help me by creating "Pinball 101" videos for me; printed and sent me a schematic which I didn't have; and redid my Klondike slot reels to brand new condition! He and Pin-It stayed by my side every step of the way while I was attempting to repair my machine, as a total novice...and got it working again!!

Extra kudos for Pafasa and Pin-it!

One of these days I'll be installing my new Klondike Slot Wheel decals from Pafasa as well.

Just got word my "Sure Shot" and "Prospector" are in Transit with STI back East.

My CC "Casino" is standing by in the warehouse back in the Midwest waiting for NAVL to pick up shortly.

Just love when the ball (truck) gets rolling.

I'll share picks once I get them and when they are set up.

Quoted from AlexF:

Hey Ken, I see Klondike plastics are coming soon at Pinball Rescue. Even the impossible to find slot cover plastic. I don't know if you were keeping that one but thought it was cool to see as I believe you initiated them.

Hey Alex,

Yes I was the one who got Lee to consider them with the help of Pinside and RGP members.

The website has stated Klondike plastics are coming soon for a few months now but no date has been set as far I know as lee was having some issues with replicating the large Slot machine plastic which is the only thing that has held back production.

I do want Klondike in my permanent collection however I wish to pursue a better example than the one I own but for now will hold on to mine until I find another next year.

Well look what the cat drug in today!

My Gottlieb Sure Shot and Sonic Prospector, fresh off the NAVL truck.

I was too busy wrenching on Sure Shot so that is why I'm posting late.

They both need my usual work before I can play them but they will look and play great when I'm done.

Congrats Ken! Flip away!

Thanks guys! I'm very excited.

Funny thing is I bought these 2 with plug & play in mind but of course I found plenty wrong with them and will post 2 separate threads on the Winter rehabilitation for the machines which I'm already working on.

The best thing to do is see if i can talk my wife into giving up the family room and turning it into the 4th game room in the house. I already have a Seeburg R in the family room for about 4 years now and this Top Card is sitting right in the middle of the room

I love it!

Pretty soon Vic you guys will be eating off a pinball machine that is the new family dining table.

Unless the wife finally arms herself with the Kitchen Rolling Pin then you know that your Manifest Destiny days will be ending abruptly and your medical plan tested.

What really matters is that you and your wife like the game, so enjoy!

Ken

#1460 5 years ago
Quoted from RyanClaytor:

Wow. So if my BG is darn near perfect (no bubbling or flaking, just the most minor of scrtaches in a spot or two) you're saying just leave it alone? Since it is in a temp controlled environment and not on 8 hrs a day it should be good?

Leave it alone. If it survived almost 40 years without anything but proper care then it will survive another 40 as long as you take care of it and keep the machine indoors in a climate controlled room.

Quoted from Rat_Tomago:

Ken I love that Sure Shot. Nice cosmetic updates and touch-ups. The playfield reminds me of an updated '65 Bank-A-Ball.

Thanks Rat,

Personally I think Sure Shot is a better game because of the Kickout Holes that score you the big points and Specials. Really a satisfying shot when you pop that ball in the hole! Bank a Ball has the cool mechanical Backglass which is awesome but I buy pins for Gameplay and not just for cool mechanical gizmos. I also prefer 3" Flipper games.

Ken

#1539 5 years ago

Nice pin popeboy.

My first pin was ALMOST a Dealers Choice but at the last minute it became a Williams Space Odyssey.

Well, once you get the EM bug your toast. I started with my first EM over 2 years ago and have owned 13 since!

Ken

#1550 5 years ago

Thanks Dave!

Put in my order for some Orange Dot Flipper Coils at PBR and can't wait to get them installed. They sure speed up a game as well as make the Flippers better.

Ken

#1570 5 years ago
Quoted from IntoPinball:

Couldn't you just take some winds off of the existing coils to make them more powerful?

Not on Flipper Coils as they have 2 sets of windings each, one for high power and one for low power. All other coils you could do that.

Every candy store had this machine on the counter or outside during the summer when I was a kid. Two pennies for a piece of gum, a card and if you were really lucky a metal or plastic baseball charm.

Here is some pictures of my 1972 Chicago Coin "Casino".

This game is super fast and fun to play, actually it's a blast!

The game is now working 100% and is cosmetically finished except for having to repaint the Legs and Coin Door the original Charcoal Grey rather the the later Light Grey which will get done this Spring.

A lot of work put into this one but I think it paid off big time.

Cabinet 8.0 - Playfield 9.0 - Backglass 8.5.

Enjoy!

Very nice Ken! Oh look! A Klondike!

Quoted from Rat_Tomago:

Ken that looks super sharp. Congrats!

Quoted from Pin-it:

Looks Great
How fast do those spinning discs rotate?

Quoted from hoov:

Good job Ken - looks nice

Thanks Guys!

The Spinning Discs are fast. It's cool when the Ball dances on one then transfers to the other sometimes to continue the dance before launching off the pad into an unknown direction. Left Disc spins right and Right Disc spins left. Between the 2 Discs, 2 Slingshots, and 3 Pop Bumpers, the ball flies. The Pop Bumpers fire like machine guns.

The one thing I noticed with at least my Chicago Coin is that there is a Jones Plug that you can set for Normal Speed or Fast for juicing up the Playfield, so basically Normal or High Tap that you can easily switch back and forth rather than having to Solder/Unsolder wires to the Transformer. Too bad the other manufactures did not do this great feature as well.

Ken

Quoted from Garrett:

Ken, it would be great if you could make a video of the gameplay.

I have to say that I have boundless admiration for the work a lot of you guys do. It is way beyond me,

Quoted from boilerman:

I put organge dots on a spirit of 76 and broke 3 plastics in a week, they were removed but the damage was done. live and learn!

My SO76 has Orange Dots and I believe the original Drop Targets and I have yet to break one in a year and a half playing since I installed them. Guess it depends on where a pin was previously stored and how well it was taken care of that dictates if Drop Targets are going to break sooner or later.

Was at a friend's house tonight putting a new plastic set in his Black Knight. His real love is EM's. He humored me letting me take a couple of pictures.

Not in the pictures are another handful of 60's wedgeheads - Central Park, Sing Along, and Ice Revue.

Mike O.

Super cool setup your friend has Mike.

Love the selection of EM pins including Black Knight.

Looks like it was a fun evening.

Ken

#2253 5 years ago
Quoted from MikeO:

Thanks, Ken. It wasn't so much fun as frustrating. Getting the plastics into Black Knight was uneventful. But he had just finished shopping his Buckaroo which turned out great so I was playing a bunch of games on it. Looks great and plays even better - except I'm finding it hard to like Buckaroo. His game plays like a dream but it is hard as hell to hit the roto targets and win getting four in a row.

Mike O.

Well look at the bright side, at least you got some good pinball in tonight Mike.

I heard from a few people that Buckaroo can be frustrating so I'm pretty sure it will never end up in my collection. I'm a mediocre player at best and life itself can be frustrating enough.

Enjoy the rest of your night.

Wow! you really got that coin door to shine! You could shave with that thing!

Thanks!

I would love to take credit for that Coin Door stashyboy (I will take credit for the Coin Bezel though) but I bought the machine with that part already done, along with the Lockdown bar.

The pictures I took really don't do the machine justice as it really looks great all the way around IMHO.

I repainted the entire Big Tree in the middle of the Playfield by hand as it had some Planking and gave it 2 coats of clear, touched up some of the Bonus numbers in the tree area, and all 3 Kickout holes got Mylar Circles so no further Ball wear will happen.

The middle Kickout hole was pretty chewed up form the Ball so I took some sand paper to it, a little stain, and about 5 Clearcoats to seal it. Very happy with the whole big Tree area turned out in general.

One could comb their hair while playing a game of Klondike.

Well Dan, If you decided to comb your hair playing my game you may find yourself playing a very short game.

All 5 Pop Bumpers fully rebuilt except for original caps, along with both Slingshots, and Flippers rebuilt. Not as fast as DC Bumper action but still perky.

It's really the Slingshots by the Flippers that you have to worry about on mine as they act like they are DC.

Also a note that all my machines are set at a 5 degree incline.

Yes it is stashyboy. I will get a new Backglass down the line when either Shay or Ron Webb decides to make one which I figure will happen within a couple years. I believe the current Backglass has been sealed by the last owner.

Klondike needs a new Backglass as well as it is a plexiglass one (in great shape) but I want a real glass one from bgresto.com when they become available soon.

FYI to all that bgresto.com will have a CC Casino Backglass available in the near future as well.

Just an FYI that unfortunately the "OT: Show us your EM Gun & Submarine Games" topic has been moved by the Moderator Seal Clubber. It is my belief the thread will get lost in the general OT section and asked if maybe an OT-EM subcategory could be created to prevent this and if Robin would approve this.

If not, at least you know where the thread disappeared to and hopefully we can keep it going anyway.

EDIT 4/6/2014:

The Moderator has moved the topic back to the EM section for now.....yahoo!

Ken

#2462 5 years ago
Quoted from btw75:

That's too bad - I don't turn on the OT forum- ever. Seemed appropriate for the EM "hangout" which is kind of open to all EM I thought. If not, maybe an "EM Arcade" would be better.

Thanks for the idea, Suggestion was sent to the Moderator to pass on to Robin.

I have been hankering after this particular 1966 Bally Capersville for a couple of years, and finally got to bring it home with me today. Zipper flippers and 3 ball multiball.

Great find Printis!

Not sure if I ever played that title but remember playing Multiball EM's back in the day.

Hopefully I get to come over and play it one day.

Ken

Quoted from illawarra92:

Capersville is an awesome game.

Seems more like a pretty hard game. Even when Multiball is achieved and released it does not last long considering all the effort put into trying to get there in the first place diminishing the fun factor IMO. I guess I will just have to play one someone has and evaluate it on my own.

Ken

Well in addition to collecting the actual pinball machines themselves I also collect the flyers that go with them and have them hanging in my arcade. I have every flyer of every pinball machine I own of have owned. The pins may come and go but the flyer collection stays and only gets bigger. The only one I am currently missing a a 1962 Williams King PIn. Anyone got one for sale by chance?

Here are a couple pictures of just some of them.

EM's should be 5 balls per game

I have all mine set at 5 Ball and have never even switched a 3 Ball Jack to even try it out on any of my machines ever. In my arcade days all EM's were set to 5 Ball so that's my reason anyway.

What is the best tool for cleaning out inside of the female jones plug connector? My machine has a lot of corrosion and I have looked around for a small wire brush to get in there but have been unable to find anything.

I use 400 grit sandpaper in strips by hand to get in between and all sides of the male ends of the plug, then I clean off the dust with alcohol and cotton swabs. Generally the female ends I leave alone unless there is a problem then I address the problem plug with different techniques depending on the situation.

I've finally joined the EM club, and was able to get a Wedgehead.

Love the art on these babies. This backglass is in superb condition and looks great in person. Thanks to Pinsider Mikeincali for the nice transaction!

Sure Shot is a great Gottlieb Wedgehead, a keeper in my book and better than the 60's version Bank-A-Ball in Gameplay IMO. BAB has the cool mechanical Backbox but does not have that many direct shots that can be made from the Flippers like Sure Shot and relies more on luck than skill IMO once again.

Photos of my new arcade and machines in Texas.

Pinball Sales Flyers are original and represent machines I own or use to own, just missing one.
The 7-UP clock is original as well but the soda signage are reproductions.

Still room for 2 more games down the road! Hee-Haw

Update 12/12/14: The Phantom Gun game now has a bright and shiny new/used Coin Door (not shown in photo) along with a Spooky music cassette sound system that turns on only when the game is played and a 4" 1000 Point Bell, the last two items being modifications as this game never had these originally and it should be noted that the original sound card is still functional as well.

Enjoy!

I always make sure the new floors are protected and always use Marcos plastic bottom leg levelers or plastic wheels like on my Phantom Gun game. When I sell a game, I take them off and install new metal levelers so the plastic ones get recycled a lot on my games.

Thanks Tim! It is a great player and flows well with a rather intricate Ruleset for a Williams 70's EM. If I had the room I would keep it but I'm going for an all Gottlieb 70's Wedgehead lineup for my small collection except for Williams Gun Games.

Ken and I played all my games for the next hour or so. It seems Ken really likes my North Star. He made it sing and dance as he lit up all the rollovers and all 3 specials. I had only done that myself in 2 or 3 games in the hundreds I have played.

Dan has an impressive game lineup of some of the best 60's games IMO. It was a fun time for sure. Here are the pins in order of my favorites to play:

1) Gottlieb North Star - Super fun. The Pop Bumpers scream on this one. I could see this game in my own lineup if I had room.

2) Gottlieb Slick Chick - Another Fun one for sure with all the Pop Bumpers being the objectives.

3) Gottlieb Central Park - Fun but a hard one to get points on, at least for me. Need to get more practice on that one.

4) Gottlieb King of Diamonds - It is fun, but this is a tough one for me to rate still as Dan needs to dial it in some more and I'm not sure if I like the split feeling of upper and lower Playfield, I'll have to do more research.

This just arrived today via STI. The Gottlieb Flying Carpet has landed!

Could use a new paint job (or not) as it has the usually hard fade that turns into something other than the original color, but it's not in bad condition. Cabinet is in great shape with the right side of the Head having some minor laminate damage. Original Backglass is a solid 9 with some pinholes, the usual wear from the pads disintegrating and the glass rubbing. Playfield is a 9.5 with no paint touch ups. Original Coin Door is in great shape, best I have had to date for this style. Even has the Lockdown Bar with the end caps in super shape. Simply beautiful all the way around.

Now I just have to repair the usual mechanics as it currently does not work and see if I like how it plays. Most likely it will get it in the Shopout Que this August as I am currently shopping out my Gottlieb Sky Jump, so this will be next.
