Here are some poor pictures, but these are mine as of now. No guarantees on what will come and go tomorrow.

A big score today. New pins are the K&Q, Olympics, and Derby Day. Final shot is the current shop - most of the collection is there and needs shopping. Momma only wants 4 pins in the house (I have 5 currently in the game room including the Slick Chick and Target Pool) so the EMs will likely all get set up in here.

When do you wake up? Be sure to bring your flex stone and cleaning supplies...

Quoted from DirtFlipper:

Love the Derby Day!

Thx - am pleased to see that plastics are available because this one had none. I have a feeling it will play as is but need to level some inserts first to prevent more wear.

Quoted from DirtFlipper:

Does the Olympics have Caracas or does it have Buenos Aires on the backglass and on the playfield?

Caracas on the Playfield and Buenos Aires on the Backglass. I guess there is a story there? I knew little about the pin, just had it on my wish list due to the theme.

Quoted from DirtFlipper:

Um, how many EMs did you have at the beginning of the year?

Umm. 0. I did find my "thinking of buying an EM " thread from December - http://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/thinking-of-buying-an-em-buyers-guide
I've only bought 9(ish?) since then? Hopefully after today 2 more of the first purchases will be sold. The first 3 I bought were the first three I found reasonable, but since then my taste has become a little more refined, for the moment anyway.

#2456 10 years ago

Olympics lights up and plays! About 75% anyway as most of the roll over switches are not working. Yet.

Quoted from EM-PINMAN:

Just an FYI that unfortunately the "OT: Show us your EM Gun & Submarine Games" topic has been moved by the Moderator Seal Clubber. It is my belief the thread will get lost in the general OT section and asked if maybe an OT-EM subcategory could be created to prevent this and if Robin would approve this.
If not, at least you know where the thread disappeared to and hopefully we can keep it going anyway.
Ken

That's too bad - I don't turn on the OT forum- ever. Seemed appropriate for the EM "hangout" which is kind of open to all EM I thought. If not, maybe an "EM Arcade" would be better.

Quoted from Rat_Tomago:

I don't have enough games on it yet. I think I had a total of 20 games on it before the game shut off in the middle of a game. Something is shorting out the startup sequence and I am pretty sure I know what it is. I blew a few fuses and need to hit up Radio Shack today for the fuse I don't have a spare of. Ask me this question again in a few days.

Home Depot had a great selection of fuses. Save some of your blown ones to make circuit breakers (as shown on pinrepair.com) - those will save you lots of blown fuses next time.

#2505 10 years ago
Quoted from dphelps:

So I got my first EM a couple of weeks ago at the Texas Pinball Festival. (Thanks Bob!)
A Gottlieb Gypsy Queen. Decided my collection needed an EM, and I couldn't be happier with it. What a classic machine. I'm afraid I may be hooked on EMs now.

Way2wyrd & I had a lot of fun on that one. Congrats! A little jealous, look me up if you ever get rid of it!

#2515 10 years ago
Quoted from Gov:

So I guess the 1200ish I got on Slick Chick at TPF wasn't a terrible score

No, it sure wasn't! Especially if you got it on the other machine with weak pops.

#2519 10 years ago
Quoted from dphelps:

There's also just something cool about having a working pinball machine that's almost 60 years old. I think I'm on the EM slippery slope now. One is never enough!

I bought my first EM this year. I've bought many since. like - 9 more. VERY slippery, especially when you are used to buying DMD pins.

#2521 10 years ago

Well - I just bought my second one this morning - but honestly that's just because I have a friend who wanted one and this one fell into my lap, so I'll fix it up and pass it along. Its a fun game, and getting all the targets is somewhat challenging, but I got a little tired of it and find the 1 player 60's games more fun to play right now - and a ton more pleasant to work on given the fewer components.

#2559 10 years ago
Quoted from Gov:

Which games do you find the easiest to roll the score on? A friend of mine picked up a Target Alpha last week and it seems like one out of every 3 games I roll the score. I am not a good player either

I found it helpful to make the scoring adjustment on the 5 ball mode which scores the 5 bank less - I'd recommend making that change. To be clear - not just changing to 5 ball mode but there is a second adjustment to reduce scoring on the easier drop targets.

#2562 10 years ago
Quoted from Gov:

Oh, this is on 3 ball too
I have read you can make scoring adjustments on these, but I have no idea how to do it I am still really new to EM's and I haven't even gotten my own (Big Brave) going yet.

Big Brave didn't have one - now that I think of it the scoring adjustment on Target Alpha IS for 3-ball mode. There is a jones plug under the playfield ( I think ) that is labeled as such. The difference is 500 points for the lower targets vs 2000. I'd recommend making sure that one is set right if playing on 3 ball.

#2564 10 years ago
Quoted from Gov:

What are the adjustments in the backbox of my big brave that have different jumpers with different values on them? There is a piece of paper that says something about scoring on it.

Those are on just about every EM game I've seen and they set the replay values; i.e. what score you have to get to win a credit. They are for fun at home, but if you are operating the game you want to think about it a bit. To be clear, they don't affect your score, just the high score you need to win a game.

Quoted from Gov:

What is the best tool for cleaning out inside of the female jones plug connector? My machine has a lot of corrosion and I have looked around for a small wire brush to get in there but have been unable to find anything.

I use a toothpick wrapped in 400 grit, being careful not to take too much off which would make the connection loose.

Here are some pics of my GTB BANK A BALL .. whole game was a complete mess when I got her and I took 2 years on and off to completely repaint the playfield... its still an ongoing project as im now making new balls for the backglass animation.. anyway, some before and after shots

WOW.

Thanks for sharing.

Just finished this. A very addictive game, I can't stop playing it. It was put in a Target Pool cabinet because the original was beyond repair. I'm keeping the TP art on the cab', at least for now. I prefer it to the correct Aquarius artwork.

I would keep all but 2
nice collection
I bet it gets hot in that garage in the Texas summer

If you look closely you'll see my mini-split AC - its completely insulated. I keep the temp from 64 to 84 degrees depending on the season. Currently, since I'm in the shop, its at 76. Tough life, I know.

Which 2 would you get rid of? I'm trying to sell El D, Pro-Football, and have 2001 spoken for already. Those just didn't speak to me and I'm trying to not just collect to collect - asd tough as that is.

#2794 9 years ago
Quoted from Rat_Tomago:

I will take that Kings and Queens off your hands when you are finished with it.

You just might get it, but not just yet.

Quoted from hoov:

I'm curious as to why no one has bought the El Dorado yet........

I tend to undersell on purpose by highlighting the worst. I haven't even had a nibble, so maybe I've just over priced it or people are worried its going to be remade like MM and IM...

#2807 9 years ago
Quoted from KingNine:

BTW75:
That is a very nice line up. We have a 2001 and a Pro Football as well and are looking to add an El Dorado. We are probably like you as we like to get them un restored and bring them back to life ourselves. There is one in our area that a guy might be getting rid of but it is a family treasure and he hasn't come to the realization that it doesn't fit his house yet. (his partner doesn't want it and they are turning the room it is in into a walkin closet) So we just wait till that day comes if it ever does.
I'm surprised you want to sell yours but if you don't like playing it I understand. Our 2001 is on of my favorite machines. I go to it to play all the time over most of out other ones. We found it in a garage in terrible condition just covered with filth and other junk piled on it. We got it for $50 not even thinking it would clean up well much less play. It is now one of our treasures.
Also where do you have them listed? On here?

I have el d listed here, that and the others are on Austin Craigslist. I went though a big buying spree and now just need to thin out what doesn't do it for me and move on. While part of me wants to own one of everything, it just doesn't make me any more happy!

FRAX -
Drop targets may not need springs. before you spend a dime, take them completely a part and clean them thoroughly. Ultrasonic with degreaser if you have one, otherwise break out your old toothbrush and get after it.

#3130 9 years ago

dtown - I am on a mission take some awesome pictures like that to put on our game room wall. Any suggestions? I have an old basic DSLR (D40) but I do have a 50 mm fixed manual focus lens.

#3132 9 years ago
Quoted from Quiddity:

That's by far my favorite lens for kid picture taking. (Very unhelpful, I know! )

It really is awesome., just wich I had a camera that could focus it automagically.

#3139 9 years ago
Quoted from dtown:

Just remember the rule of thirds.

I don't remember much from my brief interest in photography, but this I use with ever picture I take.

Thanks for sharing some suggestions. I need to go out and find what I want as the subject and start trying.

#3141 9 years ago

I got motivated by the recent conversation here and took some quick attempts with my cell to try and find the right subject. I have more work to do, but welcome any thoughts on what 'works'.

Oh btw Jim....I know someone that would almost kill to have that Cinderella backglass on your wall. Hit up Way2wyrd aka Jeff on here if you would consider selling it.

I think Jeff was full on begging for it earlier this year!
