I made a video of my Jet Spin. Enjoy!

#4693 8 years ago
Quoted from MikeO:

I browsed through your video. Nicely done.
I noticed you have the urethane rings on the game. How does it play with these compared to new good quality bouncy white rings?
The only exposure I've had to urethane is on the flippers at the location we have league and, in general, I don't like them. They appear to deaden the ball action. They take spin off or just absorb energy. I've had to adjust my strategy for bounce passes where the ball is coming to one flipper and letting it bounce over to the other flipper. If it is coming slow where a normal rubber ring is on the flipper and the ball can make it to the other flipper I end up losing it as it doesn't transfer the momentum as well.

Thanks! Those are orange silicone rings from Titanpinball.com and I love them! They're just as bouncy as white rubber and more durable. The only challenge is that silicone flipper rings don't grip as well as superbands.

Quoted from EMsInKC:

Certainly not original...

Most certainly.

#4699 8 years ago
Quoted from SteveFury:

That's a fast playing game. Is it on high tap or normal? Either way it's very nice indeed!

It's on high tap and I increased the tilt to 4.5 degrees. The clearcoated and waxed playfield probably speeds the game up too.

I documented the restoration here: http://pinballreset.blogspot.com/2015/03/new-project-jet-spin.html

Beautiful! I've always suspected that the curvy string of inserts on Ali Baba was the inspiration for TOTAN's bonus lights.

Quoted from bicyclenut:

A few months ago a friend of mine called me and said he picked up a Buccaneer at an estate sale. He decided he didn't want to restore it because it was going to take to much time etc, etc... So he offered it to me for $300. I was like "ugh, a Buccaneer?" But I could not pass up a 70's wedgehead, because those are my favorite. As i inspected i noticed it has a few things going for it. Backglass has only a few spots but looks excellent. Playfield is pretty good and the plastics are like new. The coin door had some rust but was not dented. The cabinet is awful and will require a redo.
So, now Ive finished with getting this game up and running. I recycled the posts from other games that I've replaced them on. I painted them with glossy white to make them look new. They came out great. I also put a new rubber kit,new acorn nuts on the plastics and LED's throughout with color LED pop bumper (leaving 47 bulbs on the Special and all rollovers/inserts). I did add orange dot Gottlieb flipper coils.Other than that everything is what it came with.
Ive played Buccaneer many times in the past. I thought that the more I played this game the more it would become boring, but it just the opposite. The more I play, the more I like this game, even with no drop targets. The spinner is so fun to hit. This game is a keeper and Ill redo the cabinet come spring time.

If I could ever find room for one more machine it would be a Buccaneer (or a High Seas or a Ship Ahoy).

Quoted from o-din:

I've got you beat. I tilted a game before I scored a single point once. Game over.

What's the opposite of a "skill" shot? I've plunged on my Flying carpet and watched it breeze over the top lanes, bounce once off a post, fly past the pops and land straight between the flippers. Zero points and on to the next ball.

Didn't know where to post this, but I had to brag a little - tonight I triple-rolled my Jet Spin! Didn't keep track, but I must have earned about 10 specials. Final score: 426,980.

Huh! A white backglass??? I've never seen such a thing. I would love to see this lit up. Very cool find (despite the custom paint job).

The reflection on the playfield glass must be really distracting.

Shouldn't "4 Square" support 4 players? Just out of symmetry?

And cover up that awesome backglass? At least there are four score reels

My latest acquisition: Hot Line!

Question for the group: I've never seen one of these with a blue cabinet, but the speckling and the stencils look original. Can anyone confirm that Williams made blue Hot Lines? If I were to re-finish the cabinet in the future, should I match the blue or go with classic white?

Come to think of it, the backbox stencils are upside down, the sides are on a weird angle and the front stencils are missing entirely. Probably a re-paint.

#9990 6 years ago
Quoted from SuperDaveOsbourn:

neat game, that hot line. Not a bad player, and one of the few that has 'letters' for the rollovers. Game worth having.

It is (arguably) the first game with a dot matrix display, all done with mid-60's EM technology. I'm really excited to get it working again.

Quoted from NicoVolta:

Never seen one before like that, so could be. But... I confess I do kinda like the blue on the aquatic theme.

I kinda like it too. Maybe it's an early production test cabinet? Would it be a restoration faux pas to repaint it that same blue?

Quoted from thetylander:

In what amounted to a buy one get one free deal, (the seller wanted both machines gone) we recently came home with this beautiful Gottlieb Super Spin and a SS Mata Hari, which is one of my all time favorite games.
Some out there will notice the Mata Hari backbox has black wood around the backglass. The guy said the original paint was fine but he painted that in flat black acrylic because he thought it looked better. Honestly, it kinda does but the paint wasn’t sealed and comes right off.
Super Spin was 99% working straight out of storage (two bent score motor switches) and is incredibly clean and in excellent condition.
What a game! It’s our first EM, although we have played many, I always feared owning one.
The Wifebot is an EM genius and glanced at the schematics, reached in, and instantly fixed its problems. When we got it home she went through the machine and cleaned all the switches, checked gaps and made me look as confused about the process as she does when I work on a System 11 board. All I know it it was incredibly clean inside when we bought it and worked better when she was done!
Anyone else notice how a EM Gottlieb looks somewhat haunting and disturbing when it’s quietly sitting all lit up on its own in the dark?
Looks like we will be buying more EM machines. Wifebot loves them and so do I.[quoted image][quoted image]

I love my Jet Spin (the 4-player version of Super Spin). I have it set up so there are six ways to get a special:

- Score threshold
- Vari-target/bullseye shot
- Star roto target (at max bonus)
- Right standup (when bonus is 4K)
- Left standup (when bonus is 6K)
- Right standup (when bonus is 8K)

Now, rather than going for a high score, my goal for each game is to get one of each type of special.
